Bastian walked to Reuben's room after a while. Kin seemed to always have another breakthrough, always on the verge of "figuring it all out"...Bastian sighed and hoped things were different.

Reuben wasn't in his room, so he went for a walk around the promenade. He made it up to the bridge to see the first officer at the helm who nodded as he entered. "Any problems?" but the first officer shook his head. "Smooth sailing..." he commented, so Bastian went up behind the bridge into the Captain's receiving room. He was reading a book and drinking a glass of whiskey.
"Sir, just to let you know ahead of time we'll be landing in Cairo and not Alexandria..."
"Changed your mind, Sebastian?" asked the captain, not looking up.
Bastian rubbed the back of his head and said "It would be easier to find a guide in Cairo...and it will be a shorter walk."
"Why not drop you on top of the temple?"
"Too conspicuous, wouldn't want to put a dent in your ship."
The Captain huffed and said "Noted, good day."

~

Bastian found Reuben in the lounge, looking at the mask in his hands, turning it over and tapping on it...thinking.
"You mentioned Kin wanted to talk?"
Reuben nodded and said "Yeah..."
Bastian nodded as well and said "It probably won't be long..."
The feeling of sliding into Kin's shattered mind was never one to get used to. It was like jumping face-first into an icy lake filled with sharp bits of ice. The white room was the same, except different...Bastian couldn't put his finger on it...

The Lurker sat up and slid out of bed. Since the trouble at the initial boarding, he had done little else but rest and study.
The Lurker in the Light prided himself on his craft, as such he was surprised to find out how little he knew about his assistant Petra. He was even more surprised to find out how disturbing a woman she was.
Being dead is probably pretty damaging, he supposed.

He left his cabin fo the first time in days, looking for some social interaction with someone who isn't dead and disturbing.

Buildings began to materialize around Bastian. Eventually he was in some sort of two story barn. From up in the loft a voice rang out. "That you Bastian?"
"Yeah, whats going on?"

Suddenly Kins head appeared under a board, handing upside down.
"Sorry for the mess, ive been too busy to clean house, ill be down in a second."

Shortly, Kin slid over the side and, hanging from the very ledge he had appeared over, let himself fall down safely. He wiped his hands clean of dust, he had clearly been overworking himself, but he seemed unconcerned. For such an old soul, his youth had been invigorated back to life.

"Whats up?" Bastian inquired.
"I found the cypher." He replied excitedly, almost immediately he turned and grabbed a plank of wood, and took it to an unfinished wall. Holding it up to gaps in the wall he sized it up, trying to find its proper place.
"Slow down, what is a cypher?"
"A cypher is a mental tool used to store things. Its like a container, and a very diligent imperiomancer can use one to record almost every waking hour of his conscious. I figured out how to later and life and began to record everything, even tapping back into older unconscious memory and storing it."

The firmly shoved the plank into a piece and it seemed to fit perfectly without nails or anything else to hold it in position.
"My cypher survived the collapse, but it was compacted into a small fragment and lost in the chaos."

He stepped back and admired his progress. A small smirk on his face. "Its all coming together rather nicely. Here, I think you should see this."
Leading him through a small alleyway of buildings full of memory, he eventually came to a cellar with double doors. It opened with a creek and dust flew out when the doors swung out.
"Cmon, help me find the light, for some reason that part of my memory is broken, I can never remember where i put it."

The two descended into the darkness. It wasnt until they had walked a few paces and both turned around that Kin saw something which made him panic on the inside of his insides. It was as if there were crack inside Bastian. A faint slimmer of green light under his skin. A rare, but nonetheless unique symptom. But he keep his composure. Intentionally making his way to a wall, he put a hand to it and began to frantically send messages out.

On the outside, Rueben had been keeping himself occupied, looking around the room. But when he finally looked back at the mask on Bastians face, he squinted to see the writing appearing on it.
"We arent alone in here.....
Unknown entity sharing mental space with Bastian....
... Its a projection.....will distract him while you backdoor into his mind...
open up a direct two way channel and we will lure him back in... use extreme prejudice"

Rueben, as quietly as possible, walked around behind Bastian, face buried in the mask and gently slide his hands on Bastians head.

Kin could feel the door opening, but Bastian couldnt. As Bastian finally found the light and flipped it on, he looked around to see a basement full of old books.
"I thought memories were buildings in your mind..."
"They are, this is another form of raw data, not inherently memories, although the discovery of a particular piece of knowledge may hold link to memory."
As Kin looked around for a second, still stalling for time, he heard something he could barely make out the tail end of.
"..NIjkar' et onikisu nu'"
He wheeled around. "What did you say?" He stared at Bastian.
"I didnt say anything." Bastions face was of puzzlement.
"Kin, why am I here?"

Rueben voice tickled Kins ear "Front door is unlocked.... its weird over here, just a heads up."
"Kijir nu'klo Nijkar." Kins attention snapped back to Bastian, who had just been starring, but there was no doubt the voice originated from him.

He took a deep breath. "Bastion, I need to apologize in advance."
"What?"
"Im not one for playing dirty and invading the minds of my friends..."
"Kin, whats going on? Kin..." Were what a deaf man might read from Bastians lips, but as the world blurred, a twisted voice came from his mouth.
"Nijayre 'kut. 'miklo, cuntini mis'kilik.... Kin..."

"Sorry Bastian..."

With almost no warning, the wall was ripped open like some godlike force of wind stuck it. And the two were suddenly sucked into a blank blackness.

Kin collected himself quickly and stood up, looking at a sight he had not expected. He soon saw Rueben. Running to him and shouting over a hurricane-esq wind "NICE JOB, BUT YOU COULD BE MORE SUBTLE"
"WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE?" Chaos and blackness was all around. Chances are, such a blunt back door would give Bastion an internal concussion, but it shouldnt do any lasting damage.
Places and things were fading in and out of darkness. Buildings, tables, chairs etc.

"SOMETHING IS IN BASTIANS MIND AND IM PRETTY SURE HE DOESNT KNOW IT."
"SO WE ARE GOING TO THE SOURCE?"
"EXACTLY. BUT DO ME A FAVOR, IF HE GETS THE MASK OFF OF HIM...." In a moment of slight awkwardness, Kin was shouting for a second after the wind died down.
"If he gets the mask off,you need to get out and get it back on him, or I will be stuck here, and his mind isnt suited to sustain a symbiotic entity such as me and one of us will die after not long."
"Right." Rueben nodded. "So where do we start looking?"
"Chances are he recovered faster than we did, so he will have that advantage."
"Maybe a strong house? But then Bastian could sense it..."
"Unless...." Kin looked at Rueben for a second. They both felt it. They both realized at the same time that only when a strong box in ones mind is occupied does it become obvious. The entity wouldnt need a strong box until now if Bastian didnt know he was already there.
"Oh my god..." were the only words Kin could get out before Rueben was suddenly ripped from Bastians mind.

Back on the outside the mask had been flung off. Bastian was not in control of himself, and with a strength not his own he grabbed Ruebens arm and threw him over his shoulder. With a thud, Rueben immediately aimed a kick at Bastian, knocking him backwards. Immediately back on his feet, Rueben looked first at Bastian, then at the mask, then back at Bastian. Bastians eyes were glazed over, and he was breathing heavily. Rueben suddenly made a dive for the mask, but Bastian was faster and kicked it away. He then grabbed Rueben and threw him through the window of the cabin and out onto the deck of the air ship.

Bastian looked down at the mask, then picked it up with a table cloth preventing direct contact. With a full swing he attempted to throw it off the airship, but Rueben managed to snatch it in mid air and quickly and securely strapped it to his face.

Jeffery finished his introspection, something which usually took a longer time. But this time was oddly short. He slung his trenchcoats over his shoulder and carefully put them on, the grenades clinking both ominously and daintily against each other. He grabbed the shotgun from against the coat rack and headed out the door, boredly searching for something to do. Luckily he did not have to search for long and stumbled into the top deck. He fished in his pocket and pulled out a letter re-reading it very carefully. For Chronomancers like Jeffery, this was possibly one of things he could own. A time line. Of Jeffery's life detailed beyond belief and meticulously written. Every so often he studied it in an attempt to figure out where the hell in his life he was. The problem was that it always changed.

He sighed and folded up the crumpled paper into his pocket and looked out a window. "Egypt is supposed to be nice this year." His mumblings were to no one in particular but could still be heard from the hall.

Hadrian, who happened to be wandering around the hall at the time, heard Jeffery. He walked over to join Jeffery at the window. He coughed into his hand.

"Jeffery," he greeted him. "Looking forward to our time in Egypt?"

Jeffery looked back smiling mildly at Hadrian. "Yes." he took a long pause to concentrate. "If this is the timeline I think it is I think it will be quite enjoyable. However I have been wrong about the timeline before." He paused again and turned back to the window. "You people are lucky. You "see" normally. You live your life normally... although if I could redo my life I'd definitely do it the exact same way. Maybe one or two less time skips..."

Hadrian sighed and put his hands into his pockets. "I wouldn't say normal, my friend." He leaned against the railing looking at the passing clouds, thinking. "Before I joined the Guadrians, I..." Hadrian paused for a few seconds, thinking of an appropriate way to put it. "...I didn't live a very normal life." He decided that saying that he butchered people for money wouldn't be a very appropriate thing to say. "Of course, I probably wouldn't be saying any of this if I knew what it was like to be a Chronomancer."

He pulled the Golden Skull's horn out of his pocket, examining it in silence. "Do you think he'd want this back?"

Jeffery smiled apathetically, his words were in correct order but had an unmistakeable twinge of jealousy in them. "No your life is normal...ish. Your life was in correct order. That's a blessing not all of us can afford." He began to pull out several sheets of paper and shuffling them a look of mild amusement crossed his face. "Hell, how know I should?" He grinned and patted the horn. He turned back to the window. "That's one hell of a view."

Hadrian pocketed the horn, and once more looked out the window and at the scenery, loosing another sigh.
"That it is," he said before glancing at the paper in Jeffery's hands. "What are those?"

Jeffery looked a little offended. He however paused to think for a second, as if trying to decide whether to say exactly what it was or tone it down so Hadrian could understand. He seemed to settle on an a way of doing it.
"Documents of my life, birth certificates, death records, Letters of graduation and acceptance, marriage license... Proof of my existance. The only proof in time."
He stared out the window pondering something.
"Hey... Hadrian. What would you do if you had your entire life scheduled out for you. No matter what you do it changes to fit the outcome. Every step you take, every person you meet... everything has its effects and you know the outcome you know the very second you'll die. What would you do?"

Hadrian looked at Jeffery with a frown.
"What I would do would all depend on the outcome," he said simply. "I'd probably just do what fits the scenario, unless of course, there was a way to fight my fate." He shrugged nonchalantly. "But as far as I know, there isn't a way."

Hadrian raised an eyebrow. "What about you? Are you resigned to your fate, or are you fighting it?"

Jeffery let out a rather odd sounding giggle, which seemed incredibly out of character for him, "Every time I look at the timeline it changes. Every action changes my time line. Once the action is complete it is set in stone. Serious pain in the ass. In my opinion anyways. There isn't a point to fighting. I don't really mind though... I've got something to fight for... Something to come back to."

Pyotr had been behing Jefferey and Hadrian, leaning against a wall and silently drinking his vodka as they spoke. He prepared to take another gulp, tilting his head back and holding the bottle above his head, but was met with the realization that he might have just hit empty. Tilting the bottle further, shaking it a bit, somehow hoping that he'd hit some secret well of vodka with the right combination of motions. Only a few seconds after, the bottle's emptiness became irrefutable. Pyotr met this fact by swiftly throwing the bottle off of the deck and down to the earth below. Approaching the railing with a near stagger, he spoke up so the both could hear, his heavy Russian coming through clearly. "Listen, err...Jeffery? Yes, Jeffery...you will begin to realize, soon enough perhaps, that absolutely nothing is set in stone. You will begin to realize that absolutely nothing you do will matter because just as sure as you make a decision, if given the second chance, you could just as surely make another." He reached the railing, holding on to keep himself mostly steady, looking down below. "But you think what you will, I would rather not get into a debate about this. I have neither the sobriety nor the will to go into detail about this sort of thing. I think you will learn well enough. All in due time." He couldn't help but smile a little at the phrase. "Is that not right?" Pyotr's smile soon faded when he looked over at the two of them, realizing he had broken into the middle of a conversation. He cleared his throat before speaking up again, turning again to look below. "My apologies, I am interrupting. As you were."

Jeffery didn't notice Pyotr and when he spoke he was mildly surprised a grin slowly emerging on his face, soon breaking into laughter. After he managed to catch his breath he beamed at Pyotr, "Sorry... Its just... you reminded me of someone I used to know, back when I was being trained in as a chronomancer." He giggled again but stopped, "The voice of experience? And I don't know... I may just be older than you. Never take chronomancy for granted."

Hadrian grinned at Pyotr.
"That made a lot of sense, for someone who looks drunk out of their mind."
He reached out a hand in greeting. "I don't believe we met. You're Pyotr, right?"

Pyotr only twiddled his thumbs a bit, letting his forearms rest on the railing, and waited patiently as Jeffery finished his spontaneous bout of laughter. He strained his eyes a bit, focusing on the features of the world below as he listened to what he had to say. When he opened his mouth in preparation to respond, he was cut short as Hadrian spoke up and commented on his quite obvious state of inebriation. Again he opened his mouth to speak, hopefully without interruption as he addressed the firstmost of questions. "Yes, the voice of too much experience, one may go as far to say. I have lived, and sometimes still do live, many lives. And if there is one thing I have never done, in all my time, it is to have taken something for granted. It is all unknown, never certain - that I can be sure of." Then the Russian turned towards the man who stuck out his hand. "Drunk, I may be, but not stupid. Something far too many people seem to overlook." Reaching his own hand out, he shook that of Hadrian. "Yes, that is right. I am Pyotr, and you are Hadrian. We have met, or rather I have met you, some time ago." Bringing his arm back to the railing, he turned his gaze back towards the world below.

Jeffery leaned against the bar and fiddled into his pocket he seemed to find what he was looking for a small silver flask. He passed it to Pyotr, "Can't say I encourage drinking this but if you need alcohol you can have this." He unscrewed the flask. The room immediately began to smell incredibly bitter as soon as the top came off. Jefferey grinned as if daring Pyotr to try it.

Pyotr eyed the flask with great scrutiny, unsure of whether it's owner was mocking or testing his intelligence. "It would be unwise of me, or anyone for that matter, to not ask just what exactly is in that flask. So, would you kindly tell me what is in that flask?"

Jeffery grinned, "Clever aren't ya, Its clarity alcohol. I take it if my vision gets to screwy. For about an hour it neutralizes the chronomancy in my body. Good thing you didn't take it, you'd be tripping. Higher than a kite. I had it specially made so it is especially potent." He screwed the cap back on hand shoved the flask into his pockets and retrieved another bottle, this time smelling like normal alcohol. "Take it. As an apology for messing with you." Jeffery smiled nonchalantly.
