for me endings dont neccierily have to be "happy" but they MUST provide some kind of closure this doesnt mean they cant be ambiguous, the worst kind of ending is one that leaves you thinking...wait....WHAT??? In a sad kind of way (fallout 3 original one)

good examples

did nina die? did she just pass out? was it all a dream?, how ever you interperet it it doesnt matter, the ending fits the story and...yeah it feels right

is it all a dream? it doesnt matter, cobb is happy in what ever reality hes in (I think it IS reality)

so most of the main chrachter pretty much died, and their deaths were sad, but they werent sensless deaths, you know and the charachters know thats how things were going to pan out, and so they go out in flaming awsomeness

however I dont like it when an ending tells you TOO much, liek fallout NV...I liek to have a little sense of "the adventure goes on" but I supose thats not the point with fallout

Clannad After Story, such sadness for the most part and then the shift into happiness and what was meant to be. That show left a definate impression on me.

Lethal Weapon 4.

Good guys both have wives, families, children and grandchildren. Riggs has finally axknowledged he's getting old, they've been promoted to captain so they won't be out on the streets causing trouble, the threats are all dead, Riggs is resolved with his dead wife...

There was nowhere they could go, and so they ended the series. Brilliant ending.

Well that one kind of had to just end there was no way a sequal could ever be made to it.

Also mutiny is so much better then the hunt for red october book.
Marko Ramius plays a bit part in a few of the Jack Ryan based novel sequels. The books are about Jack Ryan, not Marko Ramius. Surely you have heard of Patriot Games and A Clear and Present Danger? Those are the two Jack Ryan based Movie sequels.

Any romantic comedy ever.

edit: Also probably 90% of all movies ever made have a true happy ending.

How has nobody said the Lord of the Rings films yet? The end of Return of the King is absolutely beautiful. You could argue that it's sad because Frodo leaves, but it's the first time since he got the Ring that you see him truly happy. I happily admit that I cry my eyes out every time I watch that film.

I will not say "do not weep", for not all tears are an evil.
