I have been arguing with my friends for the past half an hour that the hate on EA isn't justified. My friends said that because they make too many of the same sport games, the company is evil. How does that justify the hate given on EA? Is there anything else other then this?

I think it's due to DRM scandles and such. I'm sure there's more, but I'll leave that to the other members.

It's the fact that they swallow up smaller companies. Including my local video game developers, Bioware. But it doesn't look like their quality diminished with the EA takeover, so I don't get the fuss.

What DOES annoy me is when people say "Oh, Battlefield? EA game. It sucks." It's DICE you idiots. DICE made it. Not EA. EA produced it. Get it?

Most people I know quite like EA these days. They've really turned around their image with some quality titles over the last few years.

Because of the high amounts restrictions they've put on PC games to prevent pirating it hurts more than it helps

DRM scandals on one hand, on the other hand they've eaten and will continue to eat good game producing companies.

Sometimes, like with BioWare, this might not affect the quality of the product too much.

On the other hand many companies go through the acquisition-gristmill and come out unrecognizable on the other end. See: Origins and West Wood.

Reasons why i hate EA:
DRM is bullshit
Quality of games is lower than competitor's (common criticism, not just my opinion)
They release the same games every year with little improvements. Why not release games like madden every two years and release DLC roster updates in between?
They acquire small independent game devs so that they can legally use the devs' intellectual property
After they acquire those companies and have their IP EA lets em go to hell (RIP Pandemic)
They ruin franchises by rushing or meddling in the game making process (RIP Mercenaries)

IMO hate against EA is justified.

I reckon it's because they FINALLY learned you don't interfere with your newly-bought studios' work methods and approaches. Just fund them, reap the rewards and leave to their own devices (BioWare seems to be the prime example of this, given that they're still making outstanding games).

Well considering the fact that most of the broader IP's coming out this year are produced by EA, the 'They only release sports games' argument is kind of dead at this point. And while they can make some bonehead moves ((Army of Two Pre-Order for example)) they make a lot of awesome ones as well ((Dante figurine from Pre-order)).

They brought the Orange Box to the consoles for chrissakes. How evil can they be?

I met a man who used to work for EA and he said it was terrible. I don't hate EA though. They've really managed to turn themselves around and get back on course with their newer games.

They stole dungeon keeper 3 from us... Also any other games that any of the small game companies were going to make that might have been awesome. Although they have made some good games I must admit.

I hated them because they would never give any help when a game doesn't work. Through every email I send them they say to call the helpline, but that offers no help in the end because the staff are idiots. :(

I ended up getting very frustrated and I havent played that game since.

It's just because EA like the money over the consumer's happiness. They're a big company, they're allowed to do that, in my opinion, so long as they make a good game every so often.
