Not only was being quiet, shy, small and bookish like tattooing "Bully Me" on my forehead, but I was unable to enjoy anything that challanged me because my school had one simple attitude. "Excel, or get out". The school board was so concerned with good marks they wouldn't allow anyone who might have trouble from even attempting anything challanging, so becuase I wasn't an automatic A.. but could have been if given the opportunity and encouraged instead of being told I suck.. I wasn't even allowed to try certain subjects and for others ended up stuck in middle row groups with people who just didnt care.

Secondary school (for I am English) did not suck half as much as A-Levels, and it wasn't until a few weeks into A-Levels did I find myself missing secondary school far more than I thought I ever would.

I'd say the ubiquity of negative opinions regarding high school is because this is a site dedicated to gamers.

I have no data to prove it, but I'm pretty sure there's a positive correlation between gamers and introversion.

And since socializing is a large part of high school life, introverts, and therefore gamers, and therefore most of the people on this site had a poor time in high school.

As a introverted gamer myself, I am part of this group. My social life in high school was primarily unsatisfying. However, I did manage to enjoy what few good social moments I had as well as plenty of stimulating academic classes.

I think one of the big factors is that this site is probably made up of nerds who have been stereotypically persecuted in high school. That would be my first explanation. My second, more personal observation would be that, the people who are now posting have gone through both High School and College/University only to realize just how crap High School was by comparison.

Seriously, High School is lame.

Hey there, fellow escapists. I have recently been browsing the forums, and discovered a strange pattern. I realized that most people on this site pretty much hated high school, and go on and on about how it blows in general. My question is, why? I just finished my freshman year, and it was hella fun. Am I the only one on this site who enjoys high school, the time of finally being considered intelligent by adults, chilling with friends, and forming your own, independent opinions about issues?
I had a lot of friends in High School, and a more active social life than I do now (granted, I didn't have a serious girlfriend in high school)... I loved it, and had a lot of fun.

I liked high school quite a bit, but then I went to college and realized that high school sucks in comparison. Not really sure about why everybody seems to hate it, haven't really noticed that pattern myself.

About to end sophomore year. My school is probably sub-par when it comes to how it's run, money, teachers,(I swear I know students who could do a much better job than some of these guys. Not in what they know, but really how they do it.) and things like that. I both hate and love it for the people though. I have great friends, and I deal with serious A-holes. I can't say I completely hate it.

I'm actually looking forward to college. A couple of my teachers are former college professors, and I like the way they do things.

i actually really liked high school, though i can see how it would suck if you were near the bottom of the social ladder. i was pretty comfortably in the middle, so i was alright, but not everyone was so lucky.

High school wasn't horrible. I had some huge highlights, and some dark moments too. College is the same way, in my opinion. Lots of good, and lots of bad.

It probably depends on the school.

If it was like mine, it was one big contradiction.

Be accepting of all cultures, races, and orientations/more White Guilt then Avitar, Pocahontas, and the Blind Side combined.

It's usually not school itself that sucks but all the crap that happens during high school that makes people think it sucks. Me, I hated all 5 years of high school but it was my own fault so I'm not allowed to complain

I definitely didn't like high school at the time. I fit the introverted nerd stereotype pretty well back then (hell, quite a bit now too). I was a "not at all into sports, but great at academics" kid at a fairly football-focused school, which didn't earn me any favors either. I ended up spending a lot of time trying not to get noticed. At the same time, I was increasingly frustrated at how shallow everyone was, and that no one cared about learning like I did. Ended up being a pretty lonely situation, really.

Now that I look back on it, I was mostly being stupid and surprisingly inflexible. Of course, I can compare it to college - which was fantastic. I went to a pretty geeky place, studied math and physics with other science geeks, and had a blast. So high school doesn't hold up too well in comparison.

Heck, even grad school's been pretty great so far, although in a much different way than college...

SO no ones going to say they hated highschool because they were an awkward teen who hung around the nerdy kids playing warhammer in the libraries and never got recognition from the in crowd? Because girls (or boys) wouldn't event notice them or that no matter how high they got in that chemistry test, they knew they weren't actually happy?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
ehh, high school was ok, middle school really sucked but I ended up with a rep in it that really made people think before fucking with me in high school so that probably helped but yeah, college is tons better then high school

My high school years kicked ass. Everyone liked me, I had a ton of friends, and I had a lot of hobbies that were genuinely fulfilling and contributed to my growth into a healthy, stable human being.

Elementary school and middle school? Well, that shit was a different story.

Maybe because everyone in my secondary school was a total douche. Even kids in younger years tried to mock me to look cool. And most people who didn't mock me just constantly misunderstood me.

Seriously? I'd like to go to your high shcool, because my school years involved being asked if I wanted extra time in exams because apaprently ADHD means I'm stupid, even if I do well. And indepedndent opinions in my school meant something along of the lines "HA! You're different, fag".

I also just finished my freshman year about a month ago and generally, the pressures of the new and more difficult expectations that come with High School caused me to have 2 and a half nervous break downs. I say half because one of them was not exactly a full break down but still bad.
