While I appreciate that people want the shiny effects and animations, I think it would be really cool if more people made their own avatars for Halloween. Getting other people to do it is a bit like buying an outfit, it's all well and good, but where's the fun in it?
If you haven't got Photoshop, download Gimp and play around with it a little, you have a couple of weeks at least.

well, i have been attempting to do that. but the odd thing is that when i tried to upload my avatar, it didn't animate, and was stuck as a black box with the words the kitty reaper approaches on it.

does it make a difference which program i use? i have been using PhotoScape so far.

In the dropdown box under "File" click "open image" then browse for your file, and then upload it. Once you've done that, it's a simple matter of choosing "Resize" under "edit" and typing in 75x75. Please don't take this as advertising, it's just the only free way I've found to resize gifs.

Thought I'd give making my own a try this season. I kinda took the easy way out, as it's more "fall" related than it is Halloween... But I'm satisfied with it. I don't think it came out too bad, for a first attempt.

How's a Devil costume work for you?

I didn't manage to make a christmas version (still way too early for me ) but here is a normal version with the animation.

This will be the last avatar I can do for a while; I'll be back in a week or so.

Edit: No, scratch that. Sometimes I forget that I quit.
