Sorry, but admittedly, I'm somewhat of a noob with this sort of thing, and don't know how to set either of those pictures as my avatar, b/c they're animated. Could you tell me how to set 'em up?

Well, the same way you'd set any other picture. They work pretty much the same.
Just drag it onto your desktop and upload it to your profile.

If you need something more in-depth, I'm probably not the right guy to tell you.
I'm awful with instructions.

If it's not to much trouble, could somebody put a string of flashing lights around the ring of my avatar. And a santa hat on one of the spikes. If it's too much, maybe just make a ring of lights so I can animate it (that's the major obstacle to me making it for myself), thanks

You have to resize them to 75x75 at most, anything larger won't work.

But all you have to do is copy/save the url?

I had to get help shrinking down the hat and mistletoe because MS Paint was distorting the hell out of them.
