Decent... the bad guys seem just boring and simplistic, like a bunch of school bullies with weapons. Also, the action scenes are the worst I've seen since Batman Begins.

Your post's lack of punctuation is the only thing that makes me cry. That said, I thought it was okay. There's nothing bad to say about it, but there really isn't anything great to say about it either. Its just....bleh...

It's a horrible knock off of an actually good book movie, Battle Royal. Watch Movie Bob's review for my full opinion.
Ah, the obligatory "it's a rip off of battle royal" that the "cool crowd" must put on anything mentioning Hunger Games. How does it knock off battle royal? The only similarity is that it is a battle to the death between children.

It was better than I expected it to be, I have seen some pretty horrific book-film transactions and so it was nice that they kept it fairly close to the original work.

It was by no means perfect, and changed a fair few things, but for the most part, I quite liked it.

Then I read books two and three in the series. After the second I thought it seemed okay, although I disliked the changes to Katniss (she is starting to seem like Bella out of Twilight). Book three pretty much killed my interest for the series. It was awful.

I absolutely loved it, but then again, I read and liked the book(s) too. So excited to see Catching Fire now too! There are a few things I didn't like in the movie (mainly how much they left out about the "wolf" Mutts), but otherwise, I thought it was great.

I already saw the movie a long time ago, when it was called Battle Royale.

Wasn't as good as the book, as expected, but I still enjoyed it. Shaking cam was really annoying though.

Out of 10 I give it a 5 and a half.
It was alright, but I didn't find it noteworthy. I also couldn't figure out if the ending was simply inconclusive or one of those 'implying sequel' endings - which I fackin hate.
It's supposed to be inconclusive, kind of leaving off on an odd, depressing note. That was how the book was, but yeah, there are sequels, hopefully the cinematography will be better.

OT: I thought the Hunger games was pretty good, followed the book pretty well, felt a little rushed, but overall it was cool. I almost cried at a couple parts, but that's cause I've read the books.

If the cinematography/editing weren't so average, I would give it a higher score, but I'd say it's a 6, maybe a 7.

I really hope the next two are better.

I thought it was quite good, though it doesn't take much to entertain me. I didn't enjoy the 'shakey-cam' documentary style, but it wasn't as bad as that LA: Battlefield or whatever it was.

To be fair, I found the book ok at best, and the fact that movie was a 12 meant they had to compensate for some things with shaky-cam.

On another note, it was through Hunger Games I found Battle Royale, which is actually quite a fun read :D

I actually got a chance to write up a review of the film for my school newspaper, so I'll just give the short version.

Your ability to enjoy the movie depends largely on your ability to accept the central premise. If the notion of an evil central authority demands that the cities under their rule annually submit children to fight each other to the death seems ridiculous, then you'll probably not enjoy the rest of the movie. The film keeps piling sillier and sillier notions on top of that idea without trying to sell it to you on an intellectual level.
That said, if you CAN accept it, especially on an emotional level, then you'll really enjoy the movie.

The amount of people here complimenting the book terrifies me.......

Ultimately the book, at best, can be a seen as a way to kill a couple of hours that's slightly more interesting than breathing. The best way to sum it up is that I don't want to read the next two books and I probably won't. This is coming from somebody who doesn't, not finish book series, I mean I soldiered through Twilight and by god that was painful. But the Hunger Games was just predictable with a crappy cop out at the end, it committed the worst crime a fiction book can in it being dull.

And as the movie < book rule is indisputable I can only assume that it was equally bad if not worse. Modern society you shame me.

Uh, there's a sequel - there's three books. How do people not know these things?
I thought there was just the one book. Not that I've read it either - I only heard of this books existence after the movie was released.
Fair enough. Anyway, it's a trilogy, and the general rule is that the book is always better - so read the books!
[small]Disclaimer: I didn't like Book 3[/small]
I actually heard that in this particular case, the book was worse, simply due to the extremely poor writing style. (My friend's opinion, though I did read the first page, and it was... a little painful.)

Meh... It was... O.K... I guess but lacking and over hyped... It was to long and generic and had bad action and duff special effects and full of clichés, 1D characters, a bland setting and just generally thought it was better than it was...

Read the book and make your own opinions.
I liked it, but then I like the pacing and style of teen literature.

I didn't like it, because there was absolutely no tension about the kids killing each other, everything about it was so black and white and predictable that it took away anything interesting the setting had to offer, seriously I should have been disgusted or sad that these kids were killing each other, but since they decided to abandon any resemblance to a moral dilemma it kinda sucked, I thought it was really boring and just wasted every single bit of potential it had, I kinda felt bad for watching it though because my brothers were so happy about seeing thought it was awesome, and I was saying, well that was shit, what a waste of time.
I really didn't enjoy that movie.
