i disagree...

i like what i like... which is generally different to nearly everyone i meet...
i wear what i like... which is generally different to nearly everyone i meet... (and rather annoyingly, currently in fashion >,<)
i listen to the music i like... which is vastly different to the norm... :>
i make my own music, and share it with noone...
i rather loudly put down anything that tells me how to be...

does that make me an individual... cause if that doesnt make you think that... how about the fact that i have very little friends, because to avoid generic people..?

individualism isnt dead... you just arent one anymore. :>

I've never cared about what everyone thinks of my look, I just think "Shirt, Jeans, Socks, and my pair of trusty shoes from obscure company, bought from London Drugs."
Most of my shirts are either about 40 of a kind, and all other 39 are in a small community I used to live in, or hand me downs that have seen their service and I still am respectable.

Uniqueness as part of a clique assumes that you 'hang out' with people. Most of my clique is you guys, so that's that.

i have blue and black hair, custom t-shirts and a very twisted view on reality. tell me im not an individual.
plus i get some very strange looks off people in the street.

but on the other hand i do know what you mean. im an indivdual i always try to wear what everyone isn't, but to me it looks as if there is only 3 types of people, those that wear sports clothes (jjb's, nike etc), those that wear normal or patterned clothes (like scenesters) and punks and goths who all wear black. yer so have to kinda agree, you know.

seriously, this is ridiculous. How have I not been suspended yet? or at least put on probation. I've been an absolute dick to several people on this forum, and not one thing has come my way. I'm almost offended.
Well, if you insist.

Well I'd like to give my personal opinion on the matter at hand, but I'm sure somewhere in the first post or the 100+ that followed, all of my views have been expressed multiple times.

So, I'll just add my Seal of Approval to the OP!

But if we break away from all our 'cliques and groups', won't things get a little lonely? The human being is a social animal after all, even if we don't always feel that way. Being too relentlessly individual can make a person very selfish, and if you think about it, to make sure that you were being suitably individual all the time you'd have to be constantly checking to make sure you weren't doing the same thing as someone else at every moment in your life. That could get a little exhausting...
I guess what I'm trying to say is: it's possible to worry overmuch about whether or not one is sufficiently individual and inspired. No matter how many groups you belong to or how generic your outfit and the contents of your lunchbox are, nothing can take away from the uniqueness of your thoughts, feelings and base pair sequence. This applies to everyone, hence, everyone in the world is an individual! =D
By the way, there's heaps of innovative art and music out there of you're prepared to dig a little for it - and it's worth remebering that just because something is mainstream doesn't mean it's bad - in fact, it's probably popular for a reason, even if that reason isn't necessarily a good one in one's own opinion =)
I can, however, understand the feelings that prompt the rant - homogeneity can begin to seem overly prevalent sometimes. Take heart - it's an illusion! =)

You won't ever find someone the same as you. Other people like the sames things as you do, get over it. I don't live to comform or be an individual, I live to be me.

Creativity = the ability to create. What kind of person thinks that there is no creativity in the world is beyond me. IF there wasn't, there would be no advances in any fields or art of any kind. You fail.

Its funny how a lot of people are saying the exact same things

"Im an Individual"
"I dont care what others think so I agree"

blah, blah, blah, The truth of the matter is that the more people try to be individuals or the more they try to point it out the more they prove that there is no such thing as individuality. This whole conversation can be wrapped up in some paradox that most people wouldbe like, "wait that doesn't make sense" when clearly it does. Its kind of like a plant the more water you give it the more it will die from drowning. So if you try to "over water" your "plant" you are wasting "water" for nothing.

Hell, as long as cloning isn't perfected I believe that we are all unique individuals in our own way.

Even emos, the "non-conformitory peeps" aren't individualistic, they're just conforming to the group that has conformed with nonconforming.

Wait I think emos are scenesters now or whatever.

Here's a piece of irony. Srsly is talking about being original and most people on here are agreeing with everything he says. Not too individual if you ask me.

The way I see it, there are inevitably going to be people who think like you do. The important thing is to try not be be like everyone else. I intentionally try to be different, mostly because the majority of people in my area are narrow minded and aren't used to people who don't fit the mold. My small group of friends have similar interests, but we are still individuals. We debate, we argue, we physically hurt each other over it, but mostly we complain about other conformist.

It is what it is, for now. After a while, it won't be. Not that anything really matters.

What ever happened to personal integrety? Doing the right thing even when it isn't popular to do so. Seems over the last number of years I have been hearing the saying "there are no rules, just guidlines", but as it goes, I will try and fit in, as long as I don't have to sacrifice my integrety. Thats what I have that no one else can take away.

My two cents,
