Because every 10 minutes a child goes missing
You realize that in 70% of those, the kid is found within an hour, 25% found within a day, then the last five percent are the ones people worry about. But most of the time, they're accidental deaths, kidnappings (think estranged parent), and successful runaways.

Acting pedophiles and sexual predators are predominately people known and trusted by the family/child.

Oh?

Tell me your source of these statistics?
I'm not picking a fight, but I'd like to know that you're not just pulling that precentage out of thin air.

EDIT: Yes, a majority of people who rape or abuse women and children are known to the victim... but you ignore the well established fact that the internet gives any criminal the ability to harm by hiding behind a computer screen and waiting till trust is established.

Well... its the reason law enforcement won't accept a missing persons report unless 48 hours have passed.

As for as an actual source... I think i'll just point out the only two sites returned by google with that exact quote are your post and some canadian politician's election campaign.

Oh, you did my work for me. Whoopie. Thanks, I honestly couldn't remember exactly where I had heard that.

So... you're essentially mocking me for making a well established (not so new) observation?
I guess you just don't care either way about the topic anyway. (sounds like it)

Good use of google, accept I don't live in Canada and can hardly imagine how the statment is diminished because it was repeated by some politician,

Huh? No, I just thought it was funny that in looking to concrete my information, I decided to google your quote, and found two sites. This one and some Canadian politician.

For me, the fact law enforcement won't accept a missing person's report unless 48 hours has passed is proof enough that even though a child "goes missing every 10 minutes," the vast majority are found by the employees of the retail chain where the child was "lost" within an hour. As even walmart has some pretty intense "code adam" policies (employees guard all exits, the left overs comb the store).

Also, I know this is a pretty visceral issue for most people, but how seriously I take something is typically inversely proportional to how seriously I should be taking something. To the point I can't watch Law and Order: Special Victims Unit anymore because I've passed out a few times from laughing so hard.

I totally missed out on internet predators when I was a kid. Sigh. Stupid internet, waiting until I was starting college before taking off....
You could always pretend you're a 13-year-old child online.

hahaha, this made me laugh loads... you're so silly :p

oh yeah, on topic... urrm, i've only been (properly) on two forums, this one and earlier in my life the bleachanime.org forums.
I met some of the nicest people i know there... i have not met any of them in person and to be honest, have never thought about doing so, but now that i do think on it, i wouldn't mind doing so :)
I think i must have been lucky to find such a lovely internet community or something. they were a group of honest people (sure, some of them were older tha 30, but they said so, and never tried to hit on people under the age of 21 xD), getting on with their lives, relaxing and meeting other people they'd have never had an opportunity to meet otherwise. Sure, loads of them were perverted, some of them were fine then suddenly acted like a complete Jackass and dissapeared from the face of the ea-... i mean forum. But they all seemed very genuine and trustworthy. This forum seems like that too, apart from i seem to find a lot more trolls and a lot more extremist opinions. but i guess thats just different margins... there is only so much you feel appropriate talking about on a forum that is designated for the anime "Bleach", whilst this is here for a much wider spectrum of conversation.

i don't even know if what i said made sense. but still, yeah, be cautious. like i said, i haven't actually met up with anyone from internet.

I get what you're saying but you may want to clear it up a little and get rid of the "dudes" and "likes".

Ot: People are just very untrusting. Especially to people they haven't meet face to face.
so the thought pattern is "I don't trust you unless we've met face to face, but we can't meet face to face until I trust you"?
Exactly and sometimes people don't have any desire to mix their internet life with their real one.

Internet sex predators do exist on the internet but its such a small minority of people are which it seems the media has overblown the situation.
Your stormtrooper's a preadtor. Who can't aim.
All joking aside, I've never seen it happen seriously before. I've seen people post the joke pedobear pic, or even joke about it in real life. I've never seen it seriously happen online. The media has overblown it, and the internet has been cleaned up a lot.
I just tend not to give out IRL info because it's a policy of mine. I don't think they will try to rape me, but I just don't like handing out information. However, after knowing someone for a while, I might do it. I have a timeframe, it just is longer than you think. It's my "Golden Path" to IRL information.
