I know. This protest is turning out to be pretty pathetic. Even with Wikipedia participating, most people still probably won't even notice that this is going on. Particularly the people who are still in the dark about these bills... i.e. the ones who need to know.ResonanceSD said:Matthew94 said:http://www.3dsbuzz.com/

That's..not that dramatic, to be honest, it's like a local convenience store trying to declare independence. The fact that google searches are built into firefox and chrome URL bars is a bit more important. However, a vast proportion of sites that people actually use for content, not methods of accessing content, are still up. I mean, seriously, no one actually gets news or entertainment from wiki, reddit or google, they just find links to other places from there. The other places will still be up.
This is true. Even if the law were passed and abused to hell and back by Big Media, calling it "censorship" does send a misleading message and does seem to be little more than a ploy to get more attention. Then again, what term would one use that conveys the message "law that could easily be exploited by Big Media to silence negative opinions of its products and stifle competition from independent content creators"?Regnes said:I agree that SOPA is a flawed piece of legislation and that it probably shouldn't be passed, but labeling it as a censorship bill makes you look like a supreme idiot. ENFORCING COPYRIGHT LAW IS NOT CENSORSHIP, the first amendment or any other free speech laws do not go hand in hand with general anarchy on the internet.
Really? Never head of Facebook? The Cool Kid said:If there is a list of Z list internet sites, I think that list has them all. Other then wiki, I have no idea who any of the sites are.SPARTANXIII said:Kind of irrelevant, seeing how SOPA hasn't passed (For now anyway).
Still, a good way to show how any censorship on the net will end up. I have the list here for people to look at:

I'm not sure if I'd admit that around here; people hate Newscorp on this site, although they tend to mistakenly call it Fox News when talking about its TV arm[footnote]even when they're actually referring to the local stations that are owned by Newscorp, but separate from the national Fox News.[/footnote], and The Daily Mail when they're talking about the news papers. Plus, I doubt Mr. Murdoch would approve of one of his employes publicly /dis/approving of SOPA.ResonanceSD said:I've secured a well-paying job with News Corporation. That was kind of my point. If you do approve of it, you're a shill for Murdoch. If you don't, your bosses won't like it if it ever gets back to them. You work for Newscorp. It's ultimately the public that pays for your time, since they're the ones that watch ads and buy newspapers. But what I was really getting at here is that getting a job with Newscorp is not something that people are going to congratulate you for, unless it's just a "congrats on getting a job in this market" type thing. You said you had a job there when someone asked you what you had done that was worthy of note. I pointed out that on this site, it's not something that the average user would see as something to be proud of.ResonanceSD said:Remind me again why I care what people who aren't paying me for my time think of me? I would very much like to get a demographic breakdown of the average user of this website. If the public's widely held belief about gamers (thanks EA, thanks so much) is even remotely accurate, I think we can agree that not being held in esteem by the aforementioned hypothetical demographic isn't actually a problem.Owyn_Merrilin said:You work for Newscorp. You know, I actually agree with you there (seriously, most gamers don't give a crap about politics, and most of the rest are liberals, with the odd libertarian floating around), but that brings us back to your original post: if you don't care what gamers think about you, why brag to them about getting a job with a company that you know they (generally) hate?ResonanceSD said:I would very much like to get a demographic breakdown of the average user of this website.
