Greek cred to you Sir for mentioning Gladius! I found it extremely slow-paced, but really liked the design of the game overall. D&D
video games grow obsolete too quickly and i beat them too fast. there's only so much content the developers can fit into the game that infinite re-playability is purely impossible. you need the human element and imagination to properly play infinitely.
to an extent, D&D lets you do that. and with a massive amount of different environments to play in with D20 Modern, Shadowrun, and all the other games based off it and made by WotC. it's an easy decision.
