We're always talking about movies, series and MAYBE literature in Off-Topic. Does anybody still go to the theater around here? I don't go very often but I goad myself into it every now and then, if I'm super enthusiastic about it. It's a nice change of pace/atmosphere from the movie theater.

I've gone exactly ONCE in all of 2013, a few weeks ago to watch Brontis Jodorowsky, son of Alejandro, perform in Le Gorille (based on a Kafka story). And I enjoyed myself a lot. Why don't I do this more often? It's not necessarily that much more expensive than a movie ticket. And sometimes it's worth it, evidently. What was the last play you went to, did you like it and why don't you go more often to the theater?

I don't see that many to be honest. But the last one I saw was The Book of Mormon in Chicago a few weeks ago.

I'd recommend it to everybody, even if you don't like South Park, the play is still hilarious.

Well, I saw Ka (The Cirque du Soleil show that just got shut down due to death) a month ago in Vegas.

Ka's probably the closest thing to a play I've ever seen.

And, if anyone's wondering, it was AMAZING. I'm going to hit up all the Cirques now (Well, after I get another job anyway).

Last year I saw Lysistrata one of Aristophanes comedies. I thought is was pretty good, funny but also serious when it had to be. Also the entire male cast were wearing fake phallus's; it was an 'interesting' performance.

I saw a couple last year. One was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, while the other was a version of The Wizard of Oz.

There were more that my school put on, but I can't remember any of their names. I quite enjoy the theater, and I like how I can see the school plays for free.

Half a year ago I went to see Rock of Ages and I loved it since it had an awesome soundtrack. The main reason I don't go more is because I never pay attention to what's playing. Another reason would be I'm not a big theater person, it's been forever since I've been to a play, but I don't go to movies that much either.

Dah. It's been long. A few play-to-movie translations like Les Miserables or War Horse. Very possible the last full play I saw was the last one my sister performed in during her senior year of high school, five years ago. She played Jo (one of the four sisters and I think technically the lead) in Little Women.

Actually, I might've seen The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde play a little after that, still five years ago. I remember being absolutely amazed at the thespian who played Jekyll/Hyde, because of his performance of this song, which is debatedly the climax of the play:

The theatric performance I want to see is John Adam's Doctor Atomic, an opera about Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project.

I went to a comedian thing (no idea what english name is) about 2-3 years ago. Wasn't really a play though, more funny jokes/short stories.

The last real play I went to.. I can't even recall. I don't like them as much as you can't rewind/turn on subtitles if you miss some of the audio.

You Can't Take It With You. Do plays where you were in the cast count? :p
If not then the last would be Pokemon: The Musical 2 months ago.

I really don't remember. Might have been 10 years ago. Might even have been my high school's music theater. I'm really not a theater goer. And I don't mind not being one. :)

Last time I went to a play was...5 years ago. Forget the name, but it was about the King Arthur legend.

I go semi-regularly; my Mum works for a theatre and she, myself, my partner and our friends all do amateur acting from time to time/very often.

I was at the British finals of a festival of one-act plays just a couple of weeks ago; Mum's piece didn't win, sadly, but it was all good.

Only times I've ever been to the theater has been when it was with my school. Last time was at least six years ago with some modern, urban version of The Djungle Book. Can't say I understood much. Featured some Swedish actors you see in movies once in a while, so that's always something.
I'm just glad I wasn't in the front row. Damn do they spit a lot when they talk.

Mrs Flatfrog is head of costume at a London theatre, so I see quite a lot of shows both there and elsewhere. Last thing I saw was a great show called Chimerica about the Tienanmen Square Tank Guy and corporate America's constant struggle to get a foothold in China despite the human rights issues there. (Much better and less worthy than it sounds!) Saw Book Of Mormon too - I agree with Lionsfan, fantastic show. Tomorrow I'm going to see Season In The Congo with Chiwitel Ejiofor and next week we're going to see The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night Time.

I think theatre is great when done well; rather like drama on the radio you can create big ideas in the imagination without having to be as literal about it as you need to be on screen. For example I saw the most amazing version of Gormenghast several years ago where the only scenery they had was a bunch of door frames and wooden poles. And recently I saw a show called Kursk which was a promenade performance set on board a submarine; the use of sound and lighting was simply breathtaking, especially a section which took place in total darkness.

Saw a version of Tristan and Ysuelt (?) a few weeks ago. I still go the theatre quite a bit. I'm studying Antony and Cleopatra at the moment in my Lit classes (which I hate) and studied a few years ago An Inspector Calls (which I loved), as well as Journey's End which I quite liked. I'd say I like reading them more than watching, as nowadays most plays are quite pretentious and annoying, and I don't enjoy them.

I go to the theater fairly regularly. People almost always seem to enjoy themselves when they go to a live art performance, I am always surprised by my friends reluctance to go back to see another show even though they always enjoy it when they go.

Fiddler on the roof for a field trip, it was in sixth grade so about nine years ago. It was pretty good, until our class clown sitting behind me said the fiddler had a boner. I forget if it was true or not, but I was giggling like an idiot for a few minutes.
