A local play called Brick Up The Mersey Tunnel a few years ago. It was a comedy play while successful had a very limited appeal outside the local area mainly because it's humour is derived from the locale and its stereotypes. Beyond that the last "proper" play I saw was a very poor version of Oliver Twist some 12 years ago back when my mother was trying to instil a love of theatre for some reason that I forget now. I just wasn't very into plays I guess.

The only time I remember really enjoying watching a play was when I was around 7 or 8 my parents taking me to the Minack Theatre in Cornwall to watch some Shakespeare play that I again can't remember [footnote]a lot of the detail went over my head, including the name of the play. Someone got decapitated, so that might narrow it down a bit :p[/footnote]. I think that properly had more to do with the actual look of the theatre that the actual play; which certainly had a why of getting you in the mood for a play.

It has been a long time, last one was something creative about an actress doing an imitation of a cat with all sorts of stuff happening around that. More than a year ago though.

Did go to a few concerts recently.

The only reason I'm not going more is because no one in my circle of friends takes the initiative :p
Although I'm quite busy too atm :S

I've been to 3 this year. I saw les miserables performed at the local theater, because a friend was acting in it, and later we saw this comedy act called the reduced Shakespeare company, who tried to put on every shakespeare play in 90 minutes, which sort of fell flat.
A few weeks ago I went to see the rocky horror show, and was scarred for life. God, I was not expecting it when frankenfurter threw off his cloak and all he was wearing was a corset and tights. And then I was going to the mens in the interval and wondering if I was in the right toilet because there was a lady in there... and then I realized that he wasn't a lady.

I went to see my cousin perform in My brother is a Robot at the weekend:

My cousin plays Bobbie (the girl), so really it was for the family to show our support, although I was quite surprised since the play turned out to be quite good, it's mainly aimed at kids and has moral messages such as going outside, but also reminds parents the dangerous of letting children use technology unsupervised.

Full Synopsis.

In the future, a little girl, Bobbie, lives with her inventor dad. Bobbie and her dad will have everything they need ? until Bobbie announces that she's lonely and she wishes she had a little brother. So Bobbie's dad locks himself away in his lab to create a robot brother. Bobbie loves playing with her new little brother but when Bobbie gets into danger one day, will her robot brother save her?

"The Nazi and the Barber". The play was directed by my aunt (so proud :)
It's about a nazi soldier who, after the war, moves to israel and assumes the identity of his jewish childhood friend.

Les Miserables in the historic Queen's Theatre in London September 2011. It was my first and has since spoiled me because every other play (and by extension, venue) doesn't seem like it will be as good. Also because Matt Lucas (correct me if I'm wrong) was no longer going to play the role of Monsieur Thénardier even if I went to see it again in London. I loved that guy and I was fortunate enough to catch one of his final performances there as part of that cast.

Some school play almost a decade ago. We were forced to see it. Wasn't horrible, but I just wasn't interested.

About 5-6 years ago I saw Macbeth. The person playing the lead role was Patrick Stewart. As you would expect, it was awesome.

Theater, huh? Not a fan, despite (because) the fact I've worked on three productions. From my pov, more often than not, it seems to count on some notion of "high art" while this notion is only a thin veil concealing the same amount or possibilty of bad and/or mere popcorn entertainment I can get from movies much easier, while the latter spare me all the (sometimes) pretentious shit and the vicarious embarrassment of watching a live performance.

But. There also was that evening I saw The Far Side of the Moon by Robert Lepage. One of the most captivating wonderful somethings ever.

The last play I attended? I think it was the local community theater's production of Oklahoma, but I don't know, I've done like 20 plays there so it could have been anything. The last play I was in was Cats where I was the Rumpus Cat. Though i am going to see LeMis next weekend so there's that.

I saw Good a few months ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_(play)

It details a well meaning man's rise through Nazi Germany's government, and his falling down a slippery slope along with the rest of the country.

Went to see Macbeth with my school. It was done especially for schools who were studying the play for exams, so their were about three other schools there. Wolf whistling every time Lady Macbeth came on to stage. When the porter asked who was knocking at the door, someone shouted "your mother's gee" (gee is slang for vagina) to raucous applause from everyone in the crowd. It was a rather large piss take. I was dragged along to a play called The Plough and the Stars about the 1916 rising. Was ok, if a bit drawn out.

I'm pretty sure the last play I saw was last year and it was a performance of Henry 5 open air in a castle (if you think those last two facts should be a contradiction, it's not a very good castle). It was kind of cool, but it reminded me of trying to watch something in a foreign language, I could understand the words or the meaning but not both at the same time.

Some bikers came roaring into the castle half way through. The first one slammed to a halt in surprise and the second biker wasn't watching and drove right into him and fell off =D And the actors were good enough to immediately improvise it into the performance.

I guess I'm not much of a Shakespeare guy if that was my highlight but I don't think people count the play as one of his greatest to be fair.

EDIT: On the other hand, if anyone near me ever puts on an Oscar Wilde play, I'll be there in a snap. I was reading some and that person is a complete genius and I'd love to see someone actually perform one of them

I believe it was the Tempest, done by a professional theatre troupe. I was surprised how hard I laughed.

It was an original play at my community college called Middle East Side Story.

The plot is that terrorism has been defeated and everyone in the middle east has decided to migrate to the United States and become good American citizens. One family movies into to the classic 50s style family neighborhood right next to the whitest family ever. Hijinks ensue.

It was actually pretty hilarious. One particularly standout bit was when the two families are meeting for the first time. They decide to share a bit of their culture with the other. The white dad starts doing Earth Angel when the son points out that he should do some MODERN American music. The lights dim and the entire cast breaks down into a dubstep dancing routine, much to the immense confusion of the immigrants.

Saw Avenue Q with some friends a few months ago. My hometown has a thriving theater community, so I really should see more shows.
