A local play called Brick Up The Mersey Tunnel a few years ago. It was a comedy play while successful had a very limited appeal outside the local area mainly because it's humour is derived from the locale and its stereotypes. Beyond that the last "proper" play I saw was a very poor version of Oliver Twist some 12 years ago back when my mother was trying to instil a love of theatre for some reason that I forget now. I just wasn't very into plays I guess.
The only time I remember really enjoying watching a play was when I was around 7 or 8 my parents taking me to the Minack Theatre in Cornwall to watch some Shakespeare play that I again can't remember [footnote]a lot of the detail went over my head, including the name of the play. Someone got decapitated, so that might narrow it down a bit
[/footnote]. I think that properly had more to do with the actual look of the theatre that the actual play; which certainly had a why of getting you in the mood for a play.
