Well, Left 4 Dead obviously.

But I did have a good one on ArmA II.

I was on a hill, my men had been decimated by grenades and all I had was an AK74m rifle and 26 rounds of ammo. I killed 8 of the bastards, then snuck forward and got ammo off them, then chased a group of them around the nearby forest, picking them off, one by one.
I felt like the Russian Rambo at the end.
Sounds sexy. That game has way buggy ai though, so it can make it feel like you're trying to exterminate all of Russia's retards

It's the best part of a game.

Mount and Blade, where the enemy outnumbers me 400 to 60, and I imagine my lord giving out his "Do not go gentle into that goodnight" speech.
.
Yeah, in that game the feeling is often there.

When your 80 top elite soldiers fight the 900 strong horde of khanate sodliers of much varying skill.
Charging them with your waraxe (i swear to that weapon) makes you feel like part of 300 or 13th warrior
Nah, two handed sword and horse. Many dead nords.

And then there's the thrill of rebelling against your king for not giving you what you want, then joining the rebels from other kingdom, bringing that kingdom to it's knees and showing that ungrateful moron what's on his doorstep- I did this as Vaegirs, rebelled after crushing Rhodoks and joined the Swadian rebels after taking back all the stuff I'd captured in the name of Vaegirs. Swadia was taken over, I had almost an entire kingdom to my name, and the king of Vaegirs was quaking in his boots knowing that his doom had come. Awww yeah.

Warcraft 3. They were coming straight for my base, five minutes after they had just swept past my army. I moved my tree into the forests, eating them as I passed, then rooted him in the very middle of the forest. After he destroyed my base, I saw how puzzled he seemed, until eventually he just left to go look for my base. I Moved my tree to the nearest gold mine, and started rebuilding as fast as possible. At this point, I was rebuilt my army at half it's original strength, when he finally found me and finished it. I was still able to take a chunk of his army out before the end.

After playing World of Warcraft for a couple of weeks, i ended up with a pick up group in a temple in Tanaris. After having some fun with "egyptian" garves in the desert we came to a inca styled pyramid and at the flat top of it we got attacked from a great number of enemies from the bottom running up the stairs.
( i am still sure that the inca scene in Alien vs Predator were stolen from this moment..)

Anyway, GREAT moment, and i was after this ,stuck in WoW for 2 years!

You know that bit in a film where the party is being killed, and the arsehole of the group has escaped, only to turn back and run to help the others? Yeah, l4d2, nick. I was running away from the team, towards the boat in swamp fever. They stopped to heal, but the end started and i ran, cutting my way through a few zombies with my machete. The team got pinned, and i was about to run, but i went back to help. I didn't save any of them, but i still made it to the boat myself.

StarWars Battlefront2; me and a buddy were rebels on Endor Jungle (i think), the match was against elite AI wasnt going well (basically, we had to do all the jobs, our AI buddies were just crap), in the end there were like.. 50 imperials left to our 0 lives and just the two of us still up and kicking. We retreated back at the beggining of the map and made our last stand (we were both soldiers), we expected to die quickly and horribly.. but we somehow succeeded to kill every single last imperial... we got close to dying so many times we were often inches away from death, and our lives depended on keeping the HP regen droid up and running. That was ... fun.

The absolute BEST examples of this are in the two Mythic MMOs: Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online. Those games are designed around last stands. So many times you will be defending a keep outnumbered 2 or more to 1. So many times you'll find people talking to their comrades like it was freaking 'nam. "We just need to hold them for a few minutes and the city will be safe!"

So epic. So fun. Its why I enjoy those games so much, and why I wish other companies would follow the RvR model and maybe improve on it.

This is only really effective when its in a PvP setting imo. You can experience it in PvE, but in PvP situations that's when it gets to be more about adrenaline and less about frustration.

Back on maybe my third multi-player match of CoD4... I'd spent most of the match getting my rear end handed to me. The timer warning had just gone off and my team was down by two kills. I turn the corner and see three enemies, none of which seem aware of me. I rush in, pump a shotgun shell into the first guy, he goes down, swing around do the same to the second to the second, he goes down. I practically throw myself at the last guy and knife him just as time expires. My team wins.

I do this with Eldar every time I lose my main base.

Do it in things like L4D too, like in No Mercy on the last mission, when its just me and I just have to survive against all the zombies and race for the chopper. Its a great feeling.

Oooh. A guy on the internet that doesn't think the eldar are pussies.
On topic though, I did that last night. A mod a friend and I use for Dark Crusade changes the balance a bit. For the most part it's good, but the Tau are pretty overpowered, so when my friend and I played against a couple of hard AI's with one of them being Tau, the entire game turned into a last stand. It was pretty epic/frustrating.

When the fucking Drowning Doom sends out like three or four Reapers, decimates your Headbangers before you get a chance to help them, takes your merch booths and pushes you all the way back to your stage......40 minutes later you win.

Man last stands are brilliant.

Is it wrong that I still get that rush at 32? Maybe that's why we all love gaming so much. When we lose that buzz, it is time to buy carpet slippers, start smoking a pipe, put a blanket on your lap and take up knitting instead.

Star Wars Battlefront 2...

I was the engineer class in the Empire. Meaning I had a shotgun and health kits. So anyway, there I was at our last command post and the score is 43 to 1. That's right. There's forty-three of them and one of me. I still won and it was awesome.

There was this one time when I was playing Ninja Gaiden 2, I was about to die and I pulled off a 100 hit combo, I didn't even know I could do that
