Many times on TF2, particularly as a Spy on Badlands Arena (pure awesome, and all the dead guys shout advice and compliments at you)

Once on Empire Total War (a train-wreck of a game, but one or two shining moments) my General who, with nought but volunteers and hastily-recruited miltia, had held the English Republic's borders in Carolina against the Spanish, Rebels and Americans for 40 years, died after fighting against the largets Rebel forced ever amassed

Knowing I was doomed, I had him charge the line. He wiped out 120 dragoons, 80 miltia and 50 light infantrymen (all routed), before being cut down.

He had a bodygaurd of 20, and only two were left after THE FIRST ASSAULT

Goddamn it, General McDowell, I salute you

I love that feeling, It mostly happens to me in fighting games like super smash bros., tekken and soul calibur.

but those "I wont die before you do" moments are awesome too, last time it happened in Bleach blade battlers II

I remember 2 experieances like where the odds seemed borderlie imposible. The First was in Assassin's Creed in a mission where you have to kill some target in a church and by sheer luck after the act of cruelty that the target commits I manage to sneak onto the rafters and used the rafters till I was right on the last rafter which immediately in fron there was a line of guards all standing with their backs in my direction and in front of the guards was the target himself going on some rant. Anyways I was in position but for some ungodly reason instead of jumping at the target (I must have pressed the wrong combination of buttons or whatever) because instead my character ended up stumbling off the rafters and ended up falling onto the floor right behind the guards, before my character could so much as get up someone yelled "ASSASSIN!" all rwelve guards simultaniously turned around and drew their swords while the target ended up running the second he spotted me. Upon getting up I charge and promptly crashed into the first 3 guards got through but ended up stumbling then rolling then running right after the target with all 12 guards hot on my trail. I managed to catch up to the target but he sealedhimself up in this tower which was being guarded by 12 more soldiers and the orignal 12 for some reason managed to follow me their plus every guard I ran by on the street so their was probably atleast 30 guards all together. and they all completely aurrounded me at which point I drew my sword and started fighting. I was doing pretty badly to managed to take out 3 or 4 guards when my health sychro whatever was in the red then I went into lets see how manay of these guys i can take with me. Something must have clicked in bc I instantly got into this weird trance where I noticed which soldier was getting lazy and woulld immediately go after wut I determined as the weakest link and managed to counter every slash from every soldier that took a swing at me. This went on for so long my health actually regenerated back to normal and their were probably 10 to 12 soldiers left before the target decided to run out the tower and attack with the surviving soldiers upon which I figured out that he was actually weaker than the soldiers but i managed to kill 2 more soldiers before I got a chance to kill the target upon which I slew him mercilouly then cued that boring targets boring rant on his deathbed which by thenthere were 7 guards left. I killed all but 1 who upon realising that all his comrads were all dead decided to run. In which case I made my way back to the berau quickly with out any trouble from more guards.

Beating two (small) armies in Medieval 2: Total War with nothing more than a General's Bodyguard. At the end of each battle, all I had standing was the general, and obviously, I took advantage of the strength of the cavalry charge to just prod the militia units into submission. It was hilarious, made even funnier by the fact that I was trying to suicide the general!
i can acctualy go one better, i was moving a general (my king as luck would have it) to an army for a crusaede, he had two gold chevrons and 60 men in his body guard, that was the only unit in the army, i was a couple of turns away from the army and when i ended the turn i got attacked by a HUGE army of the holy roman empire, their prince was in command of it, sufice to say i positioned myself on a ridge and waited till they came the distance just before their crossbows could fire, i looped round the side through a narrow vally-like area (this was winter it was all covered in snow) and sped down their ahead of them towards their trepuchets, my men started cutting them apart with ease until their general approched, we fought hime then plled away and out manuvered him, i saw that they also had catapults so i speed towards them and attack, i've lost about 10 men by now, as i'm attacking the catapults i underesstimate their short range ability and they fire on me!!! my unti gets hit by a rock and about 35 of them die leaving me with 15 men, their general comes back and this time i kill him and rout the unit, i loose 10 more men leaving me with5, now i just need to get as far away as possible cause the battle is coming to a close, well, i run them up a steep incline on a path and punch trough and crossbow unit by virtue of greater experiance and madly dashing uphill. there's about a minute left now and i've got 2 men left and the general is one of them!!!! i just stop on a protruding ridge for the sheer unadulterated hell of it as the time limit rus out and it says i won! the kills were 58 to them 164 to me, i had 60 men they had something like 400. either way i won against the odds and after the battle my generals name changed from gregory the wrothful to: gregory the unconquerable, i went on to win the crusade, crush the holy roman empire after 50 years of war, conquer all the milanese cities and then get gergory the unconquerable killed leading a mad dash at the front of a huge army against the mongol attack on jerusalem, good times good times :D

lol yeah i get that

Once in MTW2 Kingdoms i was playing as the Crusaders against the egyptians and in a battle that tipped the favour soo totally in their direction i had an awesomg 10 star general...i was being attacked my almost 4 full strength armies with pretty awesome units...

I took all mu units to the top of a cliff and this was at night so that made it all the more awesom...i had some trubuchets and one cannon and i gave them the top spot and put all my spears at the bottom of the slope almost so that when the enemy charged i cud counter charge and rim them to pieces...i killed every single last one of thos egyptian butches but sadly and i have NO clue why, my General dies while chasing down the stragglers...i was sad as it was a very sad thing to see the best general in my army die for such triviall reasons but it was still KICK ASS!!

This happened to me quite a bit in CS:Source.

I remember one game, on Aztec, I was CT. it was an 18 person game, 9v9. The enemy team basically eliminated my entire team, it was just me and one other guy left. They still had about 8 guys. We were low on ammo, so we made a plan. We split up, went to opposite sides of the map, and when they planted the bomb, we went in, from 2 sides.

It was epic, the enemies panicked, started running around shooting. They got my friends but I still lived long enough to find a grenade, toss it, take out 4 guys huddled together, and turn around the corner, take out the final guy, and defuse the bomb.

It was the most epic moment of any game I played.

Another time was when I was playing a Zombie mod game on CS:Source. I remember the map was called "Boat Escape" or something like that. Basically both the Counter Terrorists and the Terrorists have to get on boats at the beginning which quickly take the occupants to the rescue zone. If they miss the boats (which happens often) whoever missed them has to walk along the cliffs.

Well anyway, we got to the rescue zone, called the chopper, and when it came everyone stopped shooting the zombies and tried to get on the chopper. There were like 15 of us left alive out of 32, and the chopper can only fit about 4, maybe 5. And while they were fighting over it, the zombies were coming in fast. There was a small boat right under the rescue zone but no one seemed to notice it. So I called for some help holding off the zombies and only 2 came to help. So we fired at them when they came, pushing them back. Eventually the helicopter left and we now had about 9 or 10 survivors to help.

We were holding them off for a bit but we were losing men. When you get stabbed by a zombie, you become one, and when your all huddled together, despite me and others yelling to seperate, it is catastrophic. In 5 seconds we lost 7 men. So the last survivors, me and one other guy, ran to the boat. We ran while shooting at the mass of zombies running at us. We finally got to the boat, but a zombie jumped down from the cliff and stabbed my friend. I shot them both with a shotgun and they flew off.

I then started the boat and got to safety, at that point me and others who came by chopper called in a nuke and won.

And those are my 2 last stand moments that have stayed with me for years.

LOTR, BFME1, Minas Tirith, story mission, hard mode. Pretty much all of my troops have been decimated, I have 10 minutes to go before the Rohirrim come and save me, and I think I can do it.

The enemy brings in about 5 catapults.
Crap.

So, I line up my archers, keep my sword and lance men by the gate, and wait, anxiously. No heroes, no upgrades except improved armour, near to nothing. I'm doomed.I manage to last for a good 5 minutes, but the gate falls. Luckily, I had large amounts of melee, and fire arrow troops. I'm keeping the Uruk-hai away from going up,and the Rohirrim come! Glee!
Wait...
What's that red dot on the mini-map?

About 4 groups of Uruks had made their way up, going to my headquarters. If they got there, I was doomed. I couldn't get my Rohirrim back in time from their enemy base, and if I left my Gondor soldiers, the rest of the troops would invade. What to do, what to do...

Then, I click on my headquarters. Aragon has been lit up. I can summon him. I have to wait the awfully long spawn time, but I can summon him! I click the icon, about 3/4 of the way through, the Uruks reach my base. They are slaughtering it, I send a few troops of archers up to deal with it...

No need. Aragorn has spawned, and totally kills them all. I then send a full scale attack on the enemies and win.

Epic.

It happens from time to time in video games. More often it happens in sports. The only sport I regularly participate in these days is Fencing and as far as fencers go, I'm simply alright. I have a good handle on the mental aspects of the game but have only truly mastered a handful of techniques meaning even if I know precisely what I need to do to get a touch, in many cases I'm just not quite skilled enough to pull it off.

This leads to many bizarre circumstances where I'm behind in a 12 - 3 bout. A loss is almost entirely assured at this point and yet in many cases it ends up 15 - 14 or 14 - 15. Some people in such a situation essentially give up - they may still be on the strip and fencing but their heart isn't in it. I tend to look at it a different way - even if I lose I want to KNOW that I threw everything I had left into the bout. If I lose such a bout in a tournament, I'm done for the day.

I am also guilty of sitting in a corner on the battlefield (in games where u have to kill all of enemy team) and hiding from people.

I did once take out an entire room of Necromorphs in Dead Space with only one bar of RIG, almost entirely Melee-ing.

THere was that one match in halo 3... The score was 40-20 to te other team and my team (who were quite bad) quit because it looked like we had lost. What followed was one of the best sniping sprees I have ever had. By the end it was 50-41 to me. I felt warm inside...

CoD WaW was on Team Deathmatch on Airfield I believe? and it had been a bit of a drawn out match but we were by no means coming back with the time we had, there was a trench where 3 enemies were standing just picking us off repeatedly, we have like 30 seconds so at this point I'm thinkin' "ya know what? fuck it!" and just rushed in all the while holding a live grenade and gaining a triple kill off that, we ended up losing but it got my KD ratio for that match positive.

Freelancer was pretty much this all the time. I think the game was programmed to be that way.
