Well...a lot of games have amazed me lately, but the last one that truly made me say 'Wow.' was probably the ending of Dear Esther.

(Please direct your arguments about Dear Esther not being a game elsewhere. I am well aware of this fact, but it is advertised as a game and therefore I will treat it as such.)

Spec ops the line.
When I got to the point that Lugo dies I didn't want to kill anymore but then he dies and dear god I wanted to open fire on the crowd. I was stalling trying to decide if the logical (don't fire) or the emotional (kill all of them) would win. They closed in, threw rocks, I hit one in the face trying to push them back. Adams fired into the air and they ran... wow

There were many others but that one wins for me.

The one thing that comes into my head is entering Anor Londo for the first time in Dark Souls. I literally put the controller down and just looked at it for a couple of minutes, amazed at both the graphical quality and how beautiful it actually was.
I have to second that. That scene is simply breathtaking as you cross the wall. I really wasnt expecting that.

The whole of Skyrim made me say "wow" to the dragons NPC's and towns to the landscapes and mountains Skyrim just stunning on the Pc.
Yes, to all of this. And the things that modders have done with Skyrim have absolutely blown my mind. My Skyrim today looks better than it ever has before, and there are constantly new mods going up to add replayability to the game. In addition, I'm still finding new things as I explore the game world, even a year later.

Also, the dynamic nature of Far Cry 3. I never know what's going to happen when I go to clear out an outpost, which has almost made me wish that they would repopulate, just so that I could go through and clear them out myself. I've had several outposts that have been cleared by a tiger just as I was about to start taking out guards, only to have the tiger disappear once all the guards are dead.

Finally, Red Dead Redemption. The entire game was amazing, but my replay this year really wow'ed me. I was riding through the desert when I passed another rider who suddenly dismounted and started running to the side of the road. I stopped to see what had caught his interest, and saw him standing in front of a rock. When I walked over to him myself, I noticed that his hands were near his beltline, and that there was a yellow stream running out to the rock. It blew my mind that I had put a ridiculous number of hours into this game, yet had never seen this before.

When I beat the final boss on Virginity Loss 14.

In all seriousness though, probably when I killed the archdemon in Dragon Age Origins after fighting through Denerim.

Damn it! I clicked the spoiler anyway!

Journey. This game definitely deserved IGN's PS3 game of the year...

Far Cry 3, the drug sequences.
Yeah I have to agree with this but the one after that bit after the crazy boss giant thing I did not see that coming. Seriously who was expecting that?

100% This. Then the achievement popped up " How D'ya like them apples?"

My response: "Touche Salesman"

I just finished To The Moon a few days ago and I couldn't believe how invested I was into the story in just a few hours. Please buy it, the story makes it worth the money.

Spec Ops: The Line. At that certain turning point in the game where your character begins to spiral into madness after you... do a bad thing. It was the first time I had done something in a video game that made me actually feel guilty. And all those load scene lines about how it was my fault and what a moster I was didn't help my guilt either.

Spec Ops: The Line. Without spoiling anything, let me say: white phosphorous.
[EDIT]
On second thought, every time the glass breaks and sends a rush of sand on the map, and when you get to see Dubai.
Wow. Just... wow.

Oh, yeah, that was pretty crazy.
Anyway.
I didn't have a PS2, so I didn't get to play Shadow of the Colossus when it came out.
But I got a PS3 and I played the Ico and SotC collection.
I'm sure I don't need to tell you what it was that wowed me.

And I might as well mention that when I first got my PS3 the first game I had was God of War III and I heard my sister give out a "whoa" at Poseidon's reveal.

Having played it last night, I have to mention Journey. There was one part in particular that literally made me say wow out loud. It is the part where you surf down a steep hill of sand with a side view as the sun sets, with the rays shining between pillars and causing the sand to glisten like crystals. How something so beautiful looking got into a 500MB game, I don't know. It is genuinely breath-taking.

Spec Ops: The Line. The first game to ever make me actually drop my jaws in shock and go "wow..."
Seconded - even if i had spoiled myself a bit by reading some forum posts it was just "Wow". After finishing it i loaded the last save again and repeated it until i got all the endings. The whole game was a hell of a ride and finally there is a shooter deserving the term mature for it`s story not only the violence which is also just "wow" to me.
Thirded. Just seeing the aftermath of that scene showing you what you did. My jaw dropped. That is so under appreciated.

The last time graphically was when I saw how good Halo 4 looked on my 360. Without a doubt the most beautiful game I have ever played on any system, and the art design was fantastic.
agreed. halo 4 made me wonder how PC users could say that the consoles were archaic (and then i remembered that they still run with 6 year old technology), when it looks better than any game in recent memory. if all game studios made games look as good as 343 did with halo 4, the consoles might not be stagnating the PC industry as much (graphically).

Dark Souls. I was fighting the Four Kings and when one of them hit me back with an AoE attack another swung at me and killed me, to which I said, "WOW, ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS."
