There were quite a few this year, Mass Effect 2, Metro 2033, Alpha Protocol, but the latest one would be Fallout New Vegas since it's the most recent I played.

Metro 2033 because of the great atmosphere and Alpha Protocol for it's choices and consequences on the story and characters are probably the ones that did it best though.

LE : Ok, I'm an idiot, it's almoast 5am and I'm tired so I forgot we're in 2011 :p .. what I meant to say was that there were quite a few last year not this year :D

The last game that really immersed me, probably Red Dead: Redemption.

At the end of the game, I was so angry, that I actually found the last stranger quest on my own, even though there was no indication that it even existed.

I was just so enraged that I couldn't just let it go, on the slight chance for revenge, I had to find that son of a *****!

Considering everyone has a different view on their game immersion, mine was "Fable The Lost Chapters". This made me feel immersed, you learned what personalty characters had, even though the entire world was filled with mindless NPC's, overall it was fun exploring.
Another that kinda made me feel immersed was Alan Awake...

The first assassin's creed. every person you would see felt like they had their own life even though you saw them at least 5 times in the same city. and it didn't feel immersive in the sense that you were altair, more like you were Desmond controlling Altair. you could put aside the little glitches in the animus a something that you would notice while you were passing through your ancestor's memories. Because of Assassin's Creed, anytime I'm near a building, I look up to see if there are any good handholds.

To be entirely honest, Doom 2.
16 years I haven't been truly immersed in a game. I guess I'm pretty jaded?
Or maybe it's healthy to not get too wrapped up in these games? Who knows! Not me.

I usually don't even finish games these days. I play maybe ten, twenty hours, lose interest and move on. I wonder if I'm really a gamer at heart. Maybe I'm lying to myself. Maybe I should start working out and punching nerds.

Single Player: Dragon Age Origins, bloody so immersed in the game the next couple of weeks instead of saying "oh bugger/god" i ended up saying "Oh Maker...".

Multiplayer: Has to go to Bad Company 2, something about you and your mates screaming over the mics pointing out enemy positions and incoming armour (Tanks, Jeeps etc.) really gets you.

A few days ago, when I played the demo for Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Absolutely terrifying.

And I love it :)

My votes goes to Dota and L4D1
Yeah when I first played l4d1, and was walking down the hallway/staircase I was like, "Oh shit, there's zombies", and then started yelling at the AI for making me go down first. But then that is the only example I can remember, not the only immersive game I've played recently. Oh well.

Trying to work up the courage for Amnesia, looks really good...

Edit: Oh yeah, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, and the X16/18 labs.

Edit of the Edit: How could i forget?! Duty Calls, of course. That game had such a good story line, and really made me feel like an American soldier in a real life war scenario.

Last time? Well, I'm pretty easilly immersed, so it was either FFVIII or Resonance of Fate, but the best immersion I've ever felt is Metroid: Prime.

Just tried the Amnesia demo a few minutes ago. I started crying and had to turn on all the lights. I have an exam tomorrow and now there is no way I can get to sleep.

Last time I was really immersed? Heavy Rain, and before that, Red Dead. Both games were amazing in terms of drawing you in, and its a pity that there aren't more like them.

Demon's Souls. The level of concentration needed to play that game is immense, because if you falter, even for a second, that game will fuck. You. Up.

Truly and completely immersed? Months ago. I was playing Medal of Honor (2010) and there was a small amount of dialogue going on. If I remember correctly, it was: "Four clear." "Two Clear." (The numbers referring to the person on the squad speaking.) At that time I actually said, OUT LOUD. "Three clear."

To tell you the truth, I can feel immersed in almost any game. It's just the kind of geek I am. When I game, I (@ least) attempt to give the game a fair shake right off the bat, for the developers', and the genre's, sake(s). It's just my way of showing respect and appreciation to the amount of time and effort it took to create it, even if I don't care that particular game/genre/gaming community.

For example, I've recently taken a trip onto nostalgia lane, so to speak, and have revisited quite a few "neglected" puzzle/strategy-type games like Critter Crunch, Piyotama, and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (pheww, a mouthful, geez...), that I haven't touched in years. I loaded up Super Puzzle Fighter 2 earlier 2day... & found that... I've been playing intermittently for about... 8 hours on a simple 2D puzzle game. That's half an "operable" day, on a game no one else I (immediately) know has.

The amazing thing about it is that even if these games have no discernable narrative, deeper meaning, aesop, physix graphics engine, ground-breaking player control scheme, or anything else that calls for endless raves from fans these days, I still find myself plopped down on my couch, totally tuning everything else out except for ways to make that douchebag Donovan (from Vampire Savior) pay for dumping a 1/4-screen counter on me while he's on the verge of losing the round...

Probably the last time I played a game (outside the arcade). "Immersed" is my standard setting, and few games don't lend themselves to it in some way.

Admittedly, not every game gets me immersed to the point of feeling sick with worry. Family Project is the one most recently that managed that level (I just get nervous letting Chunhua out of my sight), but it's occurred in other games, as well.

I would have to say Portal. I sat for over an hour trying to figure a way to not incinerate my new found friend, all the while GLaDOS sits there egging you on. Then when you fight her for the first time. When she says you broke her heart I felt genuinely sad. Having finished the game at the release of The Orange Box and having not expected a sequel of any kind, watching that first trailer.. My god. Then when GLaDOS spoke and threaten to kill the CO-OP Droids I felt so terrified. I can't think of any other game that immersive.

Well lots not forget Minecraft. All I need to say is "sssssssssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssss"

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

Sitting atop a tower and looking down over Rome at night while listening to the gorgeous female vocals on the soundtrack, knowing it was my city and I had renovated it... magical.
