I've been playing ME2 through on the hardest difficulty, and am always wondering what fighting the Human Reaper will be like there.

Actually, what I'm especially not looking forward to is fighting all the husks in the derelict Reaper, but other than that I'm progressing nicely - past Horizon, and temporarily halted not by an impassable fight, but by the arrival of a new game.
How did you pass Horizon? I'm on insanity and it's kicking my ass... I hate Scions with a passion... I am thinking of bringing Zaeed and Grunt... and using the flamethrower.
I am a soldier using an imported ME2 victor, so I've had access to all the weapons I discovered from the start.

I also downloaded all the free content, which means I have that electro arc gun thingy. I also bought the Kasumi Goto DLC, with a new character. She can cloak and sneak up on enemies, which is usually a great move which makes her a fixture on my team.

So I have Kasumi, and when I passed Horizon (it wasn't easy) I also brought Grunt.

I use a Vindicator sniper rifle (from the Collector Vessel I think) on the Scions' bags on their sides - weak point.

The Husks are just evil though in those swarms - I ended up running backwards from them whilst no-scoping them in the crotch (on insanity sniper crotch shots are usually one-hit kills because they break in half).

In that battle near the defence tower controls when you enter the area I hid on a truck in a corner near the entrance, telling my team-mates to continuously stay with me, whilst I sniped the Husks. Then I focused all fire on the two Scions.

The Praetorian I used the electrical gun on for its barrier, and the sniper for its armour - it keeps recharging the barrier if you get too close though.

Hope some of that helped. It took a shitload of trying.

So yeah in conclusion, didn't understand its point for plot but a hell of an epic sight nonetheless.
Personally I'd have been more afraid of a Krogan or Turian reaper. Don't you agree?
Yeah, however I don't really want to imagine the power within a Krogan Reaper.... that would be intense.
A Krogan Reaper would be pretty Metal. I think the only way a Human Reaper could be more Metal would be for it to build a Dog Reaper, stab it in the heart, and make it explode. That would be pretty Metal.

I was really f---ing distracted by the boss myself... And disappointed I couldn't kill Harbinger directly and permanently.

I'll admit it was certainly impressive to behold and it certainly made me feel big for being able to take it out.
However, I find myself wondering what, if any, purpose this human reaper served that couldn't have been done by any other Reaper. Come to think of it, why did the Reapers even both with the Collectors at all? Why not just invade our galaxy from Dark Space in the two years while Shepard was inactive, I mean in Mass Effect 1, that was their primary goal and they were determined to get it done.

Still, I shouldn't ask too many questions when the resolution hasn't been made yet, I still trust Bioware enough that they can shed some light on this. After all there's still some mystery in the air, like why the Collectors chose humans over any other species and all...

So yeah in conclusion, didn't understand its point for plot but a hell of an epic sight nonetheless.
I did wonder that myself. I thought by defeating Saren you stopped the Reapers escaping Dark Space, upon finding out that this was not the case I was left wondering why they hadn't left already.

My theory is that they need a Reaper outside Dark Space to let them out, upon having Sovereign destroyed they needed to build a new one within normal space.

I actually came up with that just now, but it works.

I actually liked it, and I didn't immediately think of the Terminator. And I didn't mind its origins either. Hell, I thought the idea behind it was pretty cool.

That's one of the few bits of Mass Effect 2 I didn't like! Starships do not work that way! The design makes exactly zero sense in the construction of a starship, stupid reapers...
Reapers aren't ships. They are basically giant all knowing, all powerful cyborgs. Which for some reason has the insides that mimic a ship. But its not one.

You know what? I actually believed that it wouldn't come to life. How naive I was, to think that just shooting the tubes would make it simply fall and explode. I guess it's just too much to ask for things to make sense in videogames.

Yeah, I have the arc projector as well, but it's the swarming husks that piss me off. I figured I could hide in a truck and flamethrower the bastards single file.... And the flamethrower would work wonders on the scions... but then I'd be pretty screwed when the praetorian came around... though having zaeed with his grenade canister would help...

Even though it had to have been by far one of the easiest final boss fights ever I still think that it gets points towards "best boss monster" in my book.
Easy as hell and looked like a joke. Awful, awful end boss.

Ah yes, The Human Reaper. I've recently re-beaten Mass Effect 2 and once again the first time you view the final boss before it activates had me in awe.

I mean, honestly. I can't have been the only one who was momentarily scared of the pants-crappingly massive titan that bared such a striking resemblance to Good ol' Ahnold. Even though it had to have been by far one of the easiest final boss fights ever I still think that it gets points towards "best boss monster" in my book.

EDIT: Happy now? Put your rage away. You'll poke someone's eye out if you keep swinging it around in such a way.
It was pretty amazing but not something out of this universe (being the ME universe)

I was disappointed by it. Because ME1 had a clear bad guy: Saren (and Soverign). The entire time you could run around the worlds and yell: "SAREN!" while shaking your fist. ME2 you couldn't really do that. Sure the Collector's were around being intergalactic kleptos, but they were just grunts.
It seemed like the Human Reaper boss was a little bit tacked on. I would have liked it more if the person who was "Assuming Control" the whole time WAS the Human Reaper.

Myeah, i have to agree on that. I did like the design on Soverign, the Geth and their dropships, they all seemed to be designed with nature in mind. However, a problem with that is that we design it with Our nature in mind, so they still get a bit "oh look, its a giant squid-hand" -ish.

the.. Terminator-boss was a bit of a letdown, i would have built a new/improved version of the geth, human-sized instead of one humoungus bloke who would be spotted a mile of before even waking up. i actually thought that was part of the whole story, what with The Illusive man having his creepy techno-eyes and my Shepard starting to take cybernetic implants that would have made JC-Denton wet his mouth. I actually thought that the human ability to blend technology with Implants would have been a key part of the story, but.. instead it strung out into a princes-of-the-universe, against-all-odds, in-your-face, leave-no-man-behind, now-or-never, do-or-die, b*lls-to-the-walls, run-for-your-life race into a flying room that had.. well, an idea that skynet didint even deem logical.

I did Not like the tanks in ME1, those weird spikes at the end of the feet/legs would possibly give some stability when firing the main cannon, but for that to work, they should have sunk into the ground, and the ME1-engine wouldent allow it. Now they just seemed to give the tank a really week spot.

To answer OP's question, It was a fun boss fight, but it really fucked with the back story and the *mild* scientific realism. Still, I don't care if it was a stinkin' human reaper, It just was fun and that's enough for me.

the end boss was a big let down. it took an entire fleet of ships to destroy Sovereign (which was, as i recall, very, VERY big), but this one went down after getting shot in the face by an assault rifle. I understand it wasn't fully formed (whatever that means), but that fight was just silly.

slight spoiler ...

it's too bad there wasn't an option to save the Protheans from their bondage. It seemed to me that after Harbinger released the Collector General he appeared to realize what had happened. It would have been interesting to re-incorporate the Prothean species and their subsequent knowledge and know-how into ME3.

I wasn't. I was like "wtf is this? the boss?" I was kind of let down, because it wasn't established in any way, minus the one sentence on the Normandy before boarding the station ("there's a huge energy signature coming from the central chamber" or something like that) that wasn't mentioned again. It said ina rush, as you need to gtfo the ship and save everyone, so the "large energy signature" is overlooked. I felt the same way about the collectors, and especially Harbinger. None of them were developed, minus the "they kidnapped a bunch of people, go kill them" shenanigans, which doesn't work anymore.

Also, the boss fight is rather quick, once you realize that you can shoot out two if the red things that close before they close completely.

To me it just came hurtling out of nowhere. It was fun, but still.
