Progressive and Power metal are my favorites. Stuff like Devin Townsend, Cynic, Manticora, Pagan's Mind, Blind Guardian, Psychotic Waltz, Galneryus, Fates Warning, Vintersorg etc.

Also into lots of 80's thrash and traditional bands like:
Metal Church
Overkill
Morbid Saint
Sabbat (UK)
Manilla Road
Artillery
King Diamond
Celtic Frost
Coroner
Cloven Hoof
Mekong Delta
Infernal Majesty
etc.

I just stay away from the core stuff and the fat guy metulz.

I stand by what I said. This Escape the Fate band seems more like a bad (really bad) ripoff of A7X then a band to compete for the title of "Metal Boyband."
Fair enough. However 'Dying Is Your Latest Fashion' album has some amazingly metal songs on it.

And to be fair 'This War Is Ours' is an amazing song.

But there's a lot of utter shite on there...

I don"t know if these bands have been mentioned(?) but I'd say He is Legend or Protest the Hero.
Metal;s strange, but it can be good... espically for killin games

Basically, I listen to a bunch of thrash metal. I'm a guitarist, and I love the style that goes with thrash guitar. I like vocals to be good, but I'm willing to ignore them just to hear the guitar. I am NOT a fan of death metal or grindcore as neither the guitar nor vocals appeal to me.

If you like thrash, then you would probably like old school death metal like Infernal Majesty, Possessed, early Death(the band), and Morbid Angel. It's basically a more extreme version of thrash metal.

Metals not my thing. It's too... emo for me. Not saying it is emo...
What.

OT: Any and all subgenres of it, though I prefer death metal, black metal and doom metal.
Its like saying something is to sour when it isn't actually a sour candy.
I see, then. My bad.

I still think that was a bit... confusing, for lack of a better word.

Anything that's not hardcore, deathcore, metalcore or any other 'core' you care to name. I like my songs to be something more than just a fuckton of what-is-normally-an-E-string-but-is-now-a-drop-G#-string tremolo picking while someone with lung cancer and a nasty throat infection coughs into a microphone.

I listen to mainly stoner metal and industrial metal.

I'll also occasionally venture out into old fashioned doom and grindcore.

I love heavy. Slow heavy, fast heavy, doesn't matter. I like it loud.
you forgot :p

yes i especially love metal bands that don't take it so seriously.
And some old Thrash, melodic and fantasy metal stuff.
(this one actually was the first music album i bought on CD)

and if you like it especially special , then leave all that guitars at home and just take 5 singers ;)

see you at Wacken Open Air this year ;)

Hmm, I like quite a few bands, but I really came here for recommendations.

Sadly, everyone here likes Death Metal.

Is there a band that has awesome, heavily distorted yet fairly simple guitar riffs, actual singing without growling or screaming, and topics other than how BRUTAL they are?

Because I'm sad that I only like mainstream stuff...

I have a new recommendation for those who like grindcore. They're called Cattle Decapitation.
