Thrash, death, operatic, progressive, melodic, some nu, just not glam metal. *shudders* Currently on a "Another Black Day" and "Beneath the Sky" kick. But Metallica, as always, rocks. I am also really getting into DragonForce ATM and have been a fan of Nightwish for sometime. Other than that, if people look at me with a WTF expression as I drive by with my music blasting, then I probably like it.

Off-topic: How many people on this thread get asked: "How can you listen to that?" at least twice a day? And, is there a more annoying question?
My mother asks me constantly what I see in the music I listen to. I keep telling her I like the skillful playing, but all she focuses on are the lyrics.
Pfah, the lyrics are often well put together, poetically.

I'm not sure why I like metal in all of it's forms. I think Rob Halford put it best:

"Ten thousand lights come blazing down
With razor sharp precision
The speakers pour out molten steel
The beat gives double vision"

"Heavy Metal"-Judas Priest.

No, I think it's the fact that death metal lyrics are growled that she has issue with.

It should be mentioned (if it wasn't previously) that anyone looking to grasp a cold chunk of metal knowledge should rent/check out Sam Dunn's Metal: A Headbanger's Journey. TONS of interviews and info on genre's and sub genres.

As for me?
classic metal ? glam metal ? groove metal ? power metal ? speed metal ? funk metal ? thrash metal ? progressive metal ? alternative metal

Pantera, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Anthrax, Faith No More, Danzig, Kings X, Gwar, and even selloutica.

Ah, I get it. I've always figured that it just takes some time to enjoy and understand it. An acquired taste, if you would.

Indeed. I have actually gotten pretty good at said vocal style. Hurts your throat something awful after a while, though.

Just keep at it. Eventually, you'll find a way to do it that doesn't harm your throat in any way. I find it quite a comfy vocal style, myself. My throat always feels warm and fuzzy after an hour or so.

I like pretty much all metal, all the real metal. If it has core in its name its not metal. Except between the buried and me, they get mistakenly labeled as metalcore all the time and nothing could be further from the truth.

This is playing in my house right now. Metal \m/

I listen to anything that's awesome...

Right now that's Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, Sum 41 and throw in some classic Spineshank for good measure.

Cookie to anyone who's heard of Spineshank before now.
*blows brains out with shotgun after sliting wrists and is made into album cover* "cookie to anyone who catches that reference" not my cup of tea.
Dammit. I know the album cover. It's when Death killed himself and Euronymous took the photo of his body...and also allegedly ate some of his brain. Something about black hearts.

I'm not one of those die-hard metal fans; I probably listen to both rock and metal in equal parts. I like music which mixes metal and rock together, such as some Porcupine Tree stuff. I also love Opeth, and quite like Dream Theater. Some Sludge Metal too, such as Mastodon and Baroness. They seem to mix with prog as well. Apart from that, classic old-skool metal, Sabbath, Judas Priest, anything off the Brutal Legend soundtrack is welcome. And a bit of thrash, older Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Evile.

Indeed they are.

Here's a video for those who want to hear some of Oceano's stuff.
