Yes that other thread was mine!
OT: Power metal.
Mainly stuff by freedom call.
Freedom Call are awesome, I'm a Power Metal fan as well - I just can't find the harsh vocals of other genres appealing.

Some other great power metal bands that I like: Gamma Ray, Edguy, Sabaton, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica, Avantasia and Dragonforce (yeah they're cheesy and overrated but I still like 'em, damn it!)

I listened to Nu Metal until last year, and then I just stopped listening to music. Now, I'm more into Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, and Crossover. Also, I listen to Rammstein from Industrial.

OT: I don't listen to metal, but a friend is trying to get me into Metallica.
Then you still won't listen to metal...

Extreme metal vocals are definitely an acquired taste. You'd really have to start from barely guttural at all (Disturbed).

Here's a local Black-ish metal band. It's just two guys, one guitarist/singer and a drummer, and they are very, very awesome.

Some heavy stuff like Lamb of God
Some Classic stuff like Dio
But something that I just recently started listening to is Melodic Metal.

I prefer the more melodic metal styles. Melodic death metal, progressive metal, folk metal, power metal, industrial/cyber metal, symphonic metal (at least with female singers) and some occasional death/doom.

Pretty much everything except metalcore or anything -core for that matter.
I have a special place in my heart for Amon Amarth, Sabaton and Ensiferum.

The metal equivalent to a boy band.

OT: Lamb of God, Heaven Shall Burn, WhiteChapel, Suicide Silence, DevilDriver. I don't care about what sub-genre it is, as long as it's metal as fuck.

Anything metal really, or anything heavy but a few favorites would be Sonata Arctica, Sabaton, Amon Amarth, Dragonforce, Northern Kings, Turisas and of course Iron Maiden and Dio.

Classic heavy metal for me, with some thrash and alt. I'm also quite partial to progressive metal.
Usual bands: Metallica, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dio, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Disturbed, System of a Down, Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Kamelot.

DETHKLOK! or AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE!

Yeah, joke metal bands mostly. Though the latest Mastodon CD sounded interesting.
Dethklok amazing live. Not a joke trust me lol. ADM stuff is funny but the people who do it suck and their band sucks lol. Mastodon has turned into stoner music. So much weed when i saw them with dethklok and high on fire *fuck converge*
Converge is awful, most definitely. Singer just plays Death Metal Kazoo. However, Dethklok and Mastodon are both phenomenal bands with phenomenal live performances. Mastodon in particular is good through there entire discography, even though their sound changes in every album (though you can hear it get more progressive in each album).
