Try Mescaline, according to Aldous Huxley it allowed him to understand what it must be like to be mad, and it has no side-effects.

Well, I would say something, but it's always the same. You're going to twist whatever I say into how I don't understand you. There's only one way to fix your problem, and that's to open yourself up. Nothing I can say will do anything...

Since the topic was pretty much incoherent from the get go, I think this will go the way of MGG and end in a climactic battle between us and the troll in a D&D style.

No can do. We teenagers don't touch old stuff like that. No, sir, I listen to Delerium.

I shall address the rest of these posts when I have returned from my highly enjoyable excursion to a smelly rock platform.

P.S. you all seem to have forgotten the purpose of this thread; namely, whether inducing madness in another is morally wrong.

EDIT OF ANGER

Now, this legitimately peeves me.

Quit being such a troll. Yuh ****.
Madness is not escapism and insanity and madness are the same thing. God help you should you ever get any semblence of sense in that thick skull of yours.
No, insanity is not madness. Insanity is legal unaccountability for one's actions. Madness could be any number of things, but it's usually slapped on people acting funny.

That's what this thread is about? Why'd you have to make that long convoluted post at the start that confused the hell out of everybody? Why'd you have to respond to our replies in such away to convince everybody you're a bleedin' nutjob?

Calm down. Have some coffee. Put down the methamphetamines. Please refrain from posting philosophical statements on the forum unless they benefit mankind.
Mankind can go screw itself. I'm absolutely sick and tired of being conscious and aware day after day, and I am in no way prepared to continue the pattern.
then *crosses fingers* stop being conscious, it's a win for everybody.

i really don't understand you GMES, can i call you Gems? ok, Gems it is. Gems, i just don't get it, on one hand you obviously an intelligent individual, who's posts i find entertaining if somewhat schizophrenic, and on the other your the lowest form of life i can imagine.

Its obvious to me reading that you seem to think that in the swirling aether of the internet there are actually people who enjoy your commentary, i'm sure in your head sometimes you visualize them gathering around the screen to toast your ability to type what approaches a mockery of philosophy, i'm sure, and it puzzles me, that you think you are actually earning points for this.

But, lets get on-topic, lets discuss the morality of madness gems, lets delve deep.

let us glimpse your madness, let me make a window to your soul.

i'm willing to bet money you value your worplay over any other ability you possess
i'm willing to bet flesh you think longingly of the replies you could have made when you got insulted the other week by a schoolchum
i'm willing to bet soul that you hope with every inch in your body that someone has recently replied to your latest jibe, taunt or verbal riposte

oh, gems, i'm sure you'll have a reply, i'm sure you'll come up with some metaphor for my unbearable stupidity, im even sure youll make some assupmtions about me of your own, but lets get one thing straight, your nothing special.

You're an old, worn archetype, you're one of a million others out to prove something to the world, your a little man in a big pond and you really don't want to be.

i may even get banned for this, but gems, your an object of pity, and no matter what you conjure in reply, no matter what your tiny, blazing passion for conflict spits up at me, each and every person here knows it.

On the morality of madness:

fish.
I think we all went through a little bit of a stage like this when we were teens. You know, you get to that age, say about 15 and you start thinking you know everything and being a dick to everybody. The world is cold and meaningless and you want to destroy it.
Then you meet girls who like you, grow up a bit and before you know it you want a well paying job so you can buy a big TV to go with that games system you have. You discover some of the great things in the world and you get on with it.

Good luck to you Gems. I couldn't justify helping someone go mad, as they may have something to contribute to the world.

I think what you fail to realize in your crazy philosophy rant is that people believe in life after death because they can't/won't comprehend an end, religion is used to please people's sensibilities, and people who are crazy aren't enlightened or happy or anything, unless you consider enlightenment to be soiling yourself while accusing the tv people of seeing into your mind. So, yeah. You can't voluntarily go mad, kind of like you can't be a wizard. So get a job, and stop trying to fight the system, or whatever you're trying to accomplish.
P.S. If you;re gonna go all existential and stuff, please don't insert any poetry elements into it, because when I read shadow-fog I felt a little sad for you, because the imagery is disappointing.

I am fed up with the world, because it is fed up with me.

Every day, I wake up, and bits of my head are missing. Now, they're taking quickslivers of the world away with them.

Now, if Hamlet has taught us anything, it is that there can be no peace, either in life, or in death. Rather, the possibility that there is life beyond death is impossible to ignore (why else could there be so many Christians?). Suddenly, death is no longer an escape from life, it is a gamble for a better life.

This leads me to believe that the only fate I could tolerate is absolute madness. Morally speaking, then, is it wrong for someone to assist my descent into absolute and unflinching psychosis?

Euthanasia is murder in the eyes of the law, and in the eyes of that massless, indefinite shadow-fog that defines and limits morality for us. But should someone, with my permission, drive me insane, would this be murder? Would it be wrong?

Perhaps your entertaining me is assistance? Perhaps a response would be... criminal.
Just because you're melodramatic and use big words doesn't mean your opinion is important or smart... Yeah, life sucks, go and suffer in your own pain/tragedy/whatever, my life also sucks. Why? Who cares? Probably not someone whose IP I don't even know. If you want to fix things in your life, do it. If not, then go and kill yourself. If not that, then suffer until death. Don't bother us with your life problems, we have enough of our own.

A common thematic element in this thread seems to be the convoluted message that "Life sucks." Oh, far to the contrary. Life has all the opportunities given to us that we may approach the world and say, "My what a lovely day. I think I'll go fishing." Or something to that effect.

The problem: mankind (and here I'm going to be vague - if you don't like it, go stuff yourself) attaches FAR too many of his own worries to the fray. We have in our hands emotions and philosophies, but the problem is we tend to use these things for immoral actions (war had to begin somewhere, right?)

Now if you want to live in the dark and the dreary, the macabre and the obscure, MY you are entitled to that lifestyle and worldview. Do not claim that you are superior in your philosophies or thinking because you tend to live in the dark and discard the light.

Go hiss, snake. In the meantime, I think I'll go bathe in the sunlight.

THAT, my friend, is a historical inaccuracy and you should be ridiculed for suggesting it.

Really? I was under the impression that the thread's purpose was to determine whether inducing madness in another could be considered murder, and therefore something morally wrong.

Anyway, I want to know what you're on, dear GEMS :). Also, I want you to know that, if you're taliking about those Delerium that made Silence, I like your musical choice. Maybe I'll try the trance-y versions of that song on Audiosurf.

No, this thread is about Gems feeling superior and the rest of us not humouring him. If Gems were really interested in what other people had to say besides pleasuring his ego or indulging his intellectual masochism we might have contributed sensibly. Since he's not, silliness has ensued.

If an emo talks about the right to drive someone insane and the morality surrounding it in the woods and nobody is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?

Alright, time to make some bets. I wager five pretend coins that this GEMS kid starts talking about donkey essence in, oh say.... Three days. Any takers?
