Have you ever encountered a bug in a game that was so big, it actively prevented you from progressing in a game? Were their also any bugs which caused you to stop playing because they were so infuriating?

Skyrim locking out a quest count? Other than that no
Oh fell through the floor several times in Mass Effect 3 but that wasn't exactly infuriating...

I once installed a new expansion to Fallout: New Vegas, and when I loaded my save, all my gear and money was gone.
I was in my underwear, I didn't even have basic clothes.
Yeah, I couldn't be arsed..

Most recently I dived into a lake in Assassin's Creed 3, and resurfaced inside a rock.

Whatever glitch had allowed me to phase through solid stone in the first place then eluded me when I was trying to find my way out, meaning there was nothing to be done except to load my last save. While it didn't exactly make me rage quit I was pretty annoyed, as I had been very close to my destination and reloading set me rather a long way back.

I think that would be technically KOTOR2 - when I had Vista, I installed it, tried to play it, but after quitting it wouldn't work. The only way to play the game again was to reinstall it. For some weird reason. So I just left it off. But I'm playing it now (finally) and there is no such issue on 7.

I don't think there have been other bugs that prevented me from playing a game, which I didn't deal with, or ones that made me not want to do it.

Playing Dead Island when I got to the Fire House, I fell through the floor, noclip activated itself, and when I loaded my last save, I had no weapons and I was reset to level 1. Yeah...lost all interest in playing after that...

I experienced a bug in To The Moon which prevented me from progressing past the first 5 minutes of gameplay.

Also my Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow save got wiped after like 36 hours of gameplay.

Skyrim keeps crashing when I go to my nice new house in Heathfire.
I had a save game of Fallout 1 or 2 get corrupted. Not sure if that was a bug in the game or something else.
Had a game of Civ 5 get unplayable after 6000 years of history. Huge map, lots of great gameplay, then thtptp! GONE :(

Also, for retro fans, I could never get past a certain point in the Sega MyCard game "TransBot" because of a bug that would just make the game hang. Sucked :(

Whenever I would beat a stronghold in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, the campaign would reset. This was when I was 9 so suffice to say, I lacked the patience and brains to fix it.

In oblivion on PS3 on the quest line to reverse vampirism one of the NPC's became unresponsive. Eventually found a fix for it. Had to quit the game, change the language settings of PS3 to german, reset the console again, load up the game. Quite the game. Reload the game. Go talk to the NPC in german to progress the quest, then do everything again in reverse. How the living shitballs someone figured out that fix i will never. ever. know.

Fallout 3 for the Xbox, GOTY Edition. I finished the core games quests, did Broken Steel, then when I finished Operation Anchorage, it wouldn't let my character out of the VR machine, haven't played it since.

I still haven't had a go at the other expansions due to this.

I don't think anything beats the early days of Minecraft Alpha. One of my friends was out exploring the wilderness, where he suddenly came across this massive 100*100 block of still water just floating in the air. Being naturally inquisitive, he jumped right in, at which point every block turned into a pig. This of course caused his computer to crash.

Also, my housemate ended up being a vampire on Oblivion and encountered the same PS3 issue that was mentioned earlier in the thread. It was absolutely hilarious as he followed a guide and hated being a vampire...it's also a very protracted quest.

I just wrapped up a playthrough of KotOR last night. And when I say wrapped up, I mean stopped playing and just watched the ending on YouTube. I quicksaved during the final fight with Malak and when I died to a stunlock, I tried reloading said save, it stops loading at around 20% and never progresses. I tried all sorts of methods to try and fix it it, but none of the solutions I've found worked. Giving up on that, I thought I might just go again from the autosave. Turns out, the last autosave point was when you arrive at the Star Forge, which is some way back. Why it's so far back, I have no idea, because there are several loading screens between the start and end of the Star Forge. I really couldn't be arsed to go through it again.

Oh well, I've played it several times before, so it's not the biggest loss. I also have KotOR2 to look forward to, so it's all good.

In KoToR the sky textures showed the face template for my character, which was weird, and whenever i equipped robes, some weird-ass warp implosion-looking shit happened and i was running around with random polygons sticking out of my body and an endless black line coming from my torso towards the left of my screen.
These were both fixed by a simple restart but damn that was weird.

Assassin's Creed III Boston FPS bug, i cannot play the game without trudging through the painfully low FPS, which I did to a point, until I started a mission, and the entire game became really blurry aside from the main character. Screw Assassin's Creed III.

One I remember quite well was a bug in Metro 2033. You went through this level on a trolley with a guy named Pavel and at the very end Pavel got pulled off by mutants and blew himself up before the trolley fliped itself and landed on top of you. If you dont look at Pavels seat the whole time after the trolley flips all you see is sky as if you're falling through the world and the only thing you can do is restart the game

Fallout 3 and Fallout New vegas also had freezes that made it so you had to restart the game from your last save point

Skyrim seems to break a quest that makes one of the major story arcs just stop on each of my playthroughs

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head

New Vegas. A vital quest item for the main quest just clipped through the floor, thank god I was on the PC and could use no clip.
