I think that has to be Nintendo's first attempt at producing a CD - based console.

This decision was made back when the cartridge - based SNES was Nintendo's flagship console, and it was so popular and up-to-date that it wouldn't make sense to replace it just yet. The solution: Make a CD adapter for the SNES!

The only problem was that Nintendo didn't have any experience with CD - based technology, so they needed someone else to develop the device. The task was offered to Sony.

Sony had, at this time, never made any attempt to enter the videogame market in any way. The SNES CD adapter was a whole new challenge for them, and they eagerly went to work. However, just when the device was almost ready for release, Nintendo decided - for reasons unknown - to cancel the order and have Philips develop an adapter instead.

Philips accepted the deal, and hurriedly produced a clunky, noisy, ugly and absurdly overpriced piece of crap that proved violently unpopular among gamers and developers alike. Nintendo ended up losing untold amounts of money in one of the biggest videogame-related failures since the E.T. game for the Atari 2600.

Meanwhile, the people at Sony were stuck with their unwanted machine. Rather that discarding it and wasting all the time they'd spent, Sony decided to keep working on the project until it was able to function WITHOUT a SNES attatched.

You all see where this is going, right?

Yeah.

After a while, Sony released the completed device on the market under the catchy name,

"PlayStation".

The election of Gordon Brown.
...oh wait I'm sorry did you say election?
Yea, why?
He wasn't elected...
Details, details! I know is more than that but isn't it easier to say what i said?
Actually I thought you were just being ironic considering the fact he runs the country yet wasn't elected to do so...

Jake Brown's massive fail at X-games, dropping 40-45 feet onto his hip and leg... well at least he landed the 720!

A thread that, I myself made, I don't know what I was thinking, I'm still ashamed of it.

Read the question I asked, to see why it was a fail.

well what do you think it is?
Can be anything! real life, in games, films ANYTHING!

I'd say who ever predicted the millenium bug YK2 worry, oh dear.
No, I recall hearing that there was a Y2K bug, but in only effected computers that were REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY old, were talking 386 and older, old. The epic fail was how that Y2K thing was blown out of proportion. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of proportion.

Y2K. And that cult leader who convinced his followers he had accurately calculated the exact moment and place of the return of Jesus. Of course, he was wrong. These two things in my mind tie for first place in the most epic fail of all time.
I read that that usually increases loyalty to the cult. They think they did their math wrong, or something.

If it makes you feel better about that thread, I've made a few threads that haven't got as many replies as that.

OT: Whoever believes the end of the world will be December 21st, 2012. If it happens, I'll give everyone who said it would £5,000,000 to spend on whatever they want.

Yeah. Just goes to show that cult members are idiots.
