Mine would be torn between two things.

The more recent of the two was during English class, when someone used the term "bipolar" when describing a character in the book. Of course, everyone knows what bipolar means, right? Wrong. Someone raised their hand and said "How do we know he sees in black and white?" curious, the teacher said "What do you mean?" to which he replied "Well... He's bipolar? He only sees black and white? It doesn't say that in the book...?"

Honestly, I don't think it's quite as bad as this one...

Last year (I'd like you to keep in mind that the person in question was, at the time, 17) during a free geography class, someone who happened to be in my maths class was doing some homework. He got stuck on a probability question which had something to do with the probability of two people being born on a standard year (i.e. not a leap year). He proceeded to, without the slightest bit of shame, raise his hand and ask "Sorry, sir? How many days are in a year?"

My dad and I were watching a history programme on TV about the cold war, and the topic got onto communism and to my surprise, my dad thought communism still existed in Russia. I explained it had been gone for 20 years now, and even showed him various web pages and historical books confirming this. Yet he still disagreed, and better yet, thought that Gorbachev was still leader. further still he got angry that I was so misinformed!? you should have seen the magnitude of my faceapalm.

Someone once told me a transvestite had both male and female sex organs and when I proceeded to tell them that those people are in fact hermaphrodites and transvestites were people who cross dressed he went on a rant on how ignorant I was and called me stupid.

That second one's hilarious, I hope you laughed your ass off. Actually, both of them are.

Also, Fox news is the most ignorant thing I've ever seen, and I win this thread.
I had to start coughing to avoid laughing at him...

I got let out of the class when I was coughing for about a minute, and then I left and immediately burst into tears.

Yes. I laughed.

I was talking to a fellow and he believed that Anti-Material rifles were fictional and were "something they invented for Fallout" (the game).
He is joining the military, by the way,

Well, I hate to bring this up again, and I don't agree with the stereotype that All Americans are stupid, but this is just so worth watching:

"What part of China is Japan in?"

Second favorite would be "What's sodomy?"
Never again will there be context for yelling out "IT'S BUTT SEX!" in a class.

I didnt know what Bipolar was until i was 17.
Ok, I'd like to ask you what 17 year old doesn't know how many days are in a year?

And what 19 year old (that guy was 19) who expects to do the higher level paper in English for some of the most important exams in his life doesn't know the word bipolar?

This case of ignorance happens nearly every day.

People using ignorant without knowing what it meant. I eventually got so fed up I asked "Dude,do you even know what ignorant means?" He replied saying "Well,I dunno. What does it mean?" I replied after facepalming "You're being kind of ignorant right now by not knowing the definition of ignorant." He then asked "So what does ignorant mean?" I facepalmed again and walked away.

Damn Ninjas i was gonna say fox news, oh well it is pretty obvious.

I would probably go with how the other day at school (im a HS freshman) i was in my Psychology class and one of the students actually asked our teacher "Mr. *****, when is now?" I realize he probably meant what time it is, but it just sounded so ungodly stupid.

during a literature test, it mentioned a man set to face the setting sun in an excerpt from a story. later one of the questions on this was which way was he facing A:east B:south C:north D:west. my friend went up and asked the teacher which way the sun sets. (note he is one of the best in our 11th grade honors lit class period)

though this is more of an overthinking(or lack of thinkging) then it is ignorance

To be 100% honest I didn't know what Sodomy was until about a month ago. I knew it had to do with Rape but I didn't know how it was different then just saying rape.

Taken literally, we are all very, very ignorant of a great many things: The vast majority of history, the vast majority of the cosmos, the vast majority of miscellaneous facts.

It is problematic to, based on a person's lack of knowledge about a certain subject, infer a lack of knowledge in general; even more so to infer a lack of intelligence or wisdom.

For instance, I'd say there aren't that many people who know that the Israelite tabernacle was constructed using the hides of porpoises. Those who do not know this, therefore, are ignorant of that fact. But they are not necessarily ignorant people.

That said, the largest individual case of recent ignorance that sticks in my mind is Fox News' apparent complete disinterest in, and lack of knowledge about, videogames.

This isn't really ignorance so much as it is a simple misunderstanding, but the wording is comedic gold. "Can't E.E. Cummings choose not to capitalize words since he got his poetic license?"
