Here it is: throw originality out of the window and give me your version of the most generic game that could exist. There are many ways to be generic, so be creatively uncreative. Details to include: plot (if necessary), main character, supporting characters, antagonist, gameplay mechanics, and anything else that makes your game (not) special.

A lot of you play a lot more games in many more genres than I do, so I'm interested in the Generic Game (and its sequels) for the different genres. I'll be working on my own in the meantime.

Edit: the idea is for you to come up with one made by you

I would say the Sims takes the cake already.

"Hey, you know your boring life right now? Here it is on a computer screen."

Gears of War. Angry space marines team up to hide behind walls and destroy everything that looks slightly different from themselves.

How about any movie game ever?

I'm too scarred to list any examples, but feel free to think of any GOOD movie games.

Probably Halo.

You're in space...

You're elite...

You're fighting bad aliens...

Your squad is elite...

bang bang...

Oh would you look at that I beat the game.

P.S. Does second life count? I've heard that's fantastically uneventful.

Half Life 2. It's the adventures of a power armored non-character, fighting off a generically evil alien race with two fistfulls of lead, and an annoying support character.

Second Life is boring as shit. I've had more fun watching paint dry on growing grass.

Halo.
Gears of War.

Anything along the whole "armored space marines kill aliens" line of games.

Odd Warhammer 40k hasn't made the better Armored Space marine killing Alien games...they have the best world for it. But I agree. There is sometime just dull about heroes who never seem to fear death or anything else.

Why we loved Ash in army of darkness, most time he's scared outa his mind. Then he kicks ass when he gets over it.

Generic in what way? I mean, sure, space marines fighting aliens has the chance of being generic...but what if they were in a Cooking Mama game?

To answer my own question, that'd be fucking awesome.

Modern Warfare 2

The Russians invade the USA. Wow. There was a Chuck Norris film that did that actually, and with more panache than MW2. Other then that, its the same shootey, duck-and-cover, wait in a corner till your health comes back and the blood on your eyes mysteriously fades. Many games have done thusly before.

Resistance actually presents a very intersting alternate-history scenario set in the mid-XXth Century.

Resistance gets unfortunately disqualified for the weaponry, which is decidedly un-generic. Sure you're still a bald soldier fighting funny-looking things, but the guns do something different to what real soldiers are using now, which means it's out.

I vote for L4D2. Generic characters, generic setting, generic weapons, zombies are obviously generic. Even the special zombies are the generic classes from other games; the big strong one the tank, the long-range one the smoker, the AoE boomer, the fast agile one with no hp aka the hunter, and several generic versions of those (jockey, redneck, fat guy and ugly prostitute). At least L4D1 had non generic voice acting, even if it was PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

L4D2 is set in a unique area. Essentially calling the South generic is like calling the computer your sitting at while typing far away. My vote is for any game created by Gameloft for the Ipod Touch, everyone is a blatant ripoff of some famous game. N.O.V.A is essentially Halo and there's are few others but they rip off God of War, Resident Evil 5 and Call of Duty. However, that's not a bad thing because these triple A titles haven't come to the iPod yet.
