My favourite book of all time, The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks.

I read it in one sitting, while waiting for a lift from my dad. He was very late, but I didn't notice. Sitting there for 4 hours, in the freezing cold, I read all the book, and I couldn't put it down, it was just so brutal and macabre. My hands were nearly frozen to the pages, but I read it all.

By the time he arrived, I was shaking. Not just the cold, the atmosphere the book created.
Corrected :D
Iain Banks and Iain M Banks, while the same man, are technically seperate authors. Iain Banks writes fiction that digs into your skull (I've only read his latest, Transition) while Iain M Banks writes science fiction, most recognisably novels set in The Culture universe (of which I have read many and really enjoy). I even think one of his shorts is going to be made into a hollywood film.
Summation, the man writes damn good books.

Going slightly downhill, but a good series. I'll read The Burning Land when it comes to paperback >_>.

I would have to say Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I've read that book like 15 times.
I read that book for the first time a few months ago, I don't know how I didn't read it sooner. It was amazing...

I got really into World War Z and most books by Clive Cussler...

Mort, or anything by Terry Prachett, I love Discworld
Hunger Games- sorta. Kills it at the end.
Something Wicked This Way Comes- Oh dear God did it suck me in. That thing was awesome.

Ah, for that you would have to go deep in depth to one of The Golden Compass books (His Dark Materials trilogy). Those were just amazing, and im having a tough time deciding between the first and the second book. Heck READ THEM ALL!!! [HEADING=1]NOW!![/HEADING]

EDIT: I'd also have to go with Gary Paulsen's: Brian's Winter
I liked the Subtle Knife. Just like the title, it subtlely set you up for the Amber Spyglass. I liked the Amber Spyglass because it showed weakness in Will, and is probably the only book within the past few years that hasn't made love look like it's all anguish and teen angst. (Twilight and Immortal series, I'm looking at you.)
Plus there's a healthy dose of blasphemy, which is why the Americans will never make a faithful adaptation of the third book.

They'll probably end up having 'the real God' pop up at the end to tell everyone that it's all OK.

Choose-your-own-adventure books are immersive, but what really dragged me in was The Darkangel Trilogy (unrelated to the show) by Meredith Ann Pierce. It was beautifully written.

Twilight. Lawlz. Nawh, I'm joking.
I actually couldn't put the book down.
It was like watching a car crash in slow motion.
Only with bad writing and sparkles.

OT: Other than Twilight, I haven't really ever gotten immersed in a book that I can remember the title of.
The Inheritance Trilogy[footnote]It was supposed to be a trilogy until Paolini screwed up at concluding the series and added a fourth book on, meaning there's no real beginning or end to the third one, but I digress[/footnote] kept me reading, but only because I had other things to do, and it was one of the first well written Chronicles of Pern rip offs I've seen in quite a while.
But other than that, I cna't really think of anything other than Choose Your Own Adventure books.

Eragon...

That book has been read many, many times, the sequels not so much as they're very girly, but the first one..

I don't know how he does it. Paolini just knows how to write for me.
Amen brother.

House of Leaves pulled me in, chewed me up and then spat me out. Definitely the creepies book I have ever read.

On a lighter note, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell was pretty epic and had me reading for weeks.

"The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. I'm surprised no one has posted it yet. It is BY FAR the most immersive book I've read. I might not totally agree with the themes, but it is my all-time favorite book. Actually, Bioshock led me to the subject of Ayn Rand. I didn't want to read "Atlas Shrugged" seeing that it is some 300 pages longer, but the themes are similar. If you have time read "The Fountainhead"! (Though most people don't).
