Allow for an epic story, my fellow escapists:

-May 20th, 1969 1000 hour.

-Master Sgt. Perry "Gadolf Shmitler" Shmit

As the sun rises over Hill 137, Sgt. Shmit and the rest of the company move out to attack the NVA guarding two objectives. There is lush jungles where they start out, with high rocks and steep cliffs for both sides to use for cover. With a Mountain on the left and a river where MKII river boats provide cover for the assaulting infantry on the right.

Suddenly bullets start flying everywhere and Shmit starts firing his trusty PKM machine gun into the enemy. He sees an NVA solider fall to the ground. One less Charlie. He moves into the valley in the middle, with high rocks in front of him and behind him. He hears on the radio that objective Alpha has been destroyed. He moves with the rest of his squad to attack Bravo. Frag grenades exploding all around him, he jumps into the trench where Bravo has already been rigged to blow. He huddles with his comrades and passes health kits to help them stay alive.

Then out of nowhere an NVA with a flamethrower charges in. He lights the Marine next to Shmit on fire! Shmit unloads a whole clip into the Cong, who was dead before he even fell. Pulling out his syringe, Shmit somehow manages to rescue his fellow comrade, just as Bravo is destroyed.

Shmit and three others move onto the cliff overlooking the main US troop advance, firing at retreating NVA as well. They then move down the hill, when a machine gunner hiding in a cave rips two of Shmit's buddies to pieces in an ambush! Then one of the bullets rips through him, and Shmit falls to the ground... then revived by a medic only a few seconds latter. Shook but still combat capable, he moves into the cave with his fellow soldiers. He hears a radio playing "War [what is it good for?" as his group climbs up a cliff in the cave, only to emerge into daylight as they see the battlefield scorched in flames from a napalm strike, with music still in the background.

They climb down the cliff, and already hear that Alpha is rigged to blow. The now five troops flank left, and Shmit spots three NVA and the squads open up on each other, Shmit manages to heal one of his buddies, and headshots one of the charlie. They continue to advance onto Bravo , and duck into the underground trench is located in. Out of nowhere an allied M48 somehow gets into the bunker and starts firing and enemy NVA advancing through the main entrance at point blank. Shmit starts firing at incoming NVA from the left entrance as the objective is charged. Shmit is then hit again but is instantly revived by a fellow medic and puts down a health pack to make sure that doesn't happen again. He manages to kill two Banzai charging charlie when Bravo is finally destroyed.

But that doesn't stop NVA stranglers from trying to still kill as many US soldiers as they can. Shmit spots one such person and they both fire full magazines into each other, and both fall too the ground. Shmit thought it was the end, but lady luck was on his side and a medic just spawned nearby and easily healed him. Injured twice but not deterred, Shmit follows his comrades to the final stronghold.

Shmit goes right, and suddenly finds himself alone without help. As if that was bad enough, two NVA start opening up on him. He runs back to cover and jumps as a grenade goes off right behind where he was. Bleeding, he pulls out a health pack to heal himself, and manages to somehow headshot one of his attackers from 30 yards away. But the other Cong pulls out a grenade launcher and fires it at Shmit, which explodes behind him, sending shrapnel into his back, satisfied, the NVA runs away, thinking Shmit was already dead. "So this finally the end", Shmit thought, as a white light came closer and closer... only to pull back at the last second, and Shmit sees a young medic look down at him.

"Damn man, you almost flatlined, I thought you were deadmeat!"

Helped up by the young medic, Shmit wondered how he even got this far, now having cheated death four times. But that would have to wait, as he was needed for the assault on the final objective. He moved up the muddy steps to Bravo where they had just set the charge and needed to hold out. He ducked into the trench and began healing the wounded squad inside. He then spotted an NVA just above the trench, and killed him before he could wipe Shmit and the squad out. As he Healed and revived his comrades, Bravo objective was finally destroyed, and the battle for Hill 137 had been won. He got into a heuy to be evacuated with his squad, and watched as allied tanks advanced and NVA soldiers retreated into the jungle. He did a good job today, and managed to live through the whole hellish battle.

TLDR Well thats my story for what its worth, i hoped you enjoyed it [if your read it anyway :p]. And now i want you guys to share your stories, no matter how old or new they are, whether they be co-op zombie killing, gritty WW2 TDM, or anything else. They can be funny, sad, epic, rage-inducing, or anything in between.

So tell me: What is the most memorable multiplayer experience/match youve ever played?

I can't remember any specifics, but almost all of mine are from BFBC2.

I once participated in an awesome game of Tremulous [http://tremulous.net/] where me and a friend joined a game, took opposing sides, and convinced everybody to come to a stable truce. We then proceeded to spend an hour exploiting the game to build the most ridiculous base camps imaginable. Good times were had by all.

Once, I was playing in Warsong, back in the day when matches didn't have timers. This one round was going for 3 hours, tied 2 on 2, and then the Alliance decided to make a huge push towards us. Then, Led Zeppelin's Achillies' Last Stand came on, and we beat them all up, got their flag, and went home to our loving trolls and forsaken families. It's hard work being conscripted into the Horde, but it is moments like the one stated that just makes you proud to be green...

I played Gears 2 with some guy from here and we kept getting ganked repeatedly at one checkpoint by a Brumak, it was quite awesome.

Also, that one good score I got in Black Ops. We all get them.

Most of the best games I've played have been with friends, either on TF2 or Halo.

There's nothing really memorable that sticks out, apart from lots of funny kills which are always good :)

Rome Total War LAN match with me and a buddy tag-teaming against 2 AI armies. The events of that match are forever burnt into my brain (at least until I forget of course).
I have no idea how I did it, but we were fighting the same battle on 2 different maps. I was at a bridge, he was in the desert. It was the same battle with the same armies, but in 2 locations. I wish I could have recorded it.
Rome is but 1 of many many games I have broken. I broke Heavy Rain (the kid never cried for his teddy bear, so I was stuck in limbo), the God of War 3 demo (the ldege you have to shimmy across to get to Helios, run at it with the Cestus equipped and you can run along it as if you were walking normally but they fixed it in the full game), I even got a BSOD on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Genesis.

There's too many, but the most recent is on WoW. I was doing 2v2 arena with a friend the other day, I was a Rogue and she was a Death Knight, and we went up against a Disc Priest and Hunter. She died within like the first 20 seconds, leaving me with them both on near enough full health. But, I went into some rage mode and beat them both. Stunning one, and attacking the other, and hiding behind scenery so the DPS couldn't attack. I haven't done that in a while, it's even harder to now when Rogue DPS kinda sucks, and everyone has like 3k resilience and 125k HP. But, it was still an awesome moment, and gave me just enough points for a new dagger. Dope.

Also, on WoW again the other day in Battle for Gilneas we were losing like crazy, as usual. So, I went to the toilet thinking it was over and came back just in time to see we won 2000-1990, which also gave me an achievement that's pretty hard to get.

On BF:BC2 on one of the grassy levels, me and my team spent the entire mission defending against the enemy coming from the jungle ahead. A few members of the team ran interference in the jungle, fighting a guerilla war to slow the advance, the rest of us prepared a defence in the mcom stations. I took a turret and used the spotting to bring down any targets that stood still long enough.

It was going well until they managed to get a tank through to the front, and destroyed most of the buildings we were using for cover. The next 15 minutes or so were spent hiding in the rubble of our command posts or using the way the ground sloped towards the water as natural cover.

The feeling was incredible, men all around dodging up and down to fire off a burst of gunfire, choppers flying over head and killing a few men, and counter charging when a few stragglers tried to plant the explosives. I spent the rest of the match reviving our team, not the most glorious of jobs, but many times a few team members and I rushed to a fallen comrade and revived him before falling back in good order.

In the end we won a great victory, preventing the enemy from destroying any critical locations, and breaking the back of the enemy in a war of attrition.

My favourite one would have to be a Half-Life 2 match me and some friends played at the local internet cafe. We had some fun running around, a period where two of us tried to storm the other guy who'd entrenched himself next to the rocket launcher, mucked around with the physics gun, and then eventually settled on a three-way weapons battle - I had the crossbow, one guy had the combine rifle and limited himself to the energy ball, and the third guy used the rocket.

And then we finished off by running around hitting each other with stun sticks.

Great times, great times...

Halo 3

Crazy king
I was lagging

To everyone else I appeared to be teleporting. To me, I was managing to assassinate people by punching them in the face. I felt like such a lag ninja. Ever since then whenever lag is helpful I make a Star Wars pun about the lag being with me.

I'll give out two examples: One that I played and one that I watched.

I've played multiplayer for a long while so I have lots of interesting experiences. But one that deserves a mention here is when I played GOW2 horde on new years eve with my friends. The guys at epic had had a pretty good idea: Massive ammounts of xp and tickers and drones only in horde. We decided to go insane to max out the xp (like 5000 per round).

Around midnightBoth of my friends were sitting bleeding out in our choke after getting hit by a ticker. I realize a ticker running in and that it's almost in my range, so I just spam it to death, killing both of my friends. This was in the very beggining of the wave, just a 4th of the enemy bar gone down. What I did was I just camped the shit out of the endless ticker swarm. When there was only two drones left, they rushed me. I manage to gun one down, but the other one is still very threatening (on insanity). So I rush for the torque bow and fire as fast as possible. I fired a bit early, but I got a hit near enough to the leg and he dies just before I was about to fall down. Results? 68 kills.

I've quite recently gotten into spectating starcraft 2, since it's a great spectator sport. Since the threads title also asks for games I've seen, I have to give an example from there too.

Team liquid invitational finals: WhiteRa vs TLO game 2. For those who like watching starcraft and haven't seen that game, go watch it now. Right now. Search youtube. Now. NOW. 2 insanely good players play a bit of a strange game. I'm gonna just write the game in spoilers, if someone wants to watch it themselves.

WhiteRa keeps TLO on one base with a nice wall at the bottom of TLOs ramp. TLO is a zerg, and being on one base as zerg is not fun. That TLO does is that he defends for a while and manages to sneak a few zerglings into WhiteRa main base to kill off his workers. TLO gets a lot of them and White Ra is forced to attack.

What WhiteRa doesn't know is that TLO has a nydus worm. Having hidden an overlord at WhiteRa's base, TLO escapes his own base with his queen and workers to kill WhiteRa's main and rebuilds a base there. WhiteRa doesn't have any workers and only a few stalkers and an immortal. He is forced to gg.

So essentially, TLO won the game with drones.

While I can't be bothered to write a page long epic about it, my most memorable online experience would probably have to be an Infection match in Halo: Reach. Me and my friend were playing online in a party, but as it happens for the first match we got picked to be on opposite teams, him starting out infected while I was a survivor, along with 5 other people.

It was on the power station map, so 4 of the 5 other survivors decided to stay and defend their spawn point, while I went away and tried to stick it alone. The remaining survivor was this lady who also decided to go out alone, she went in the opposite direction (I assumed she was a lady because her gamertag was a girl's name, and she had a pink female spartan, so i'm going to refer to her as "she" for this).

About halfway 'round the map, the notification pops up that a teammate has been infected, and another, and another, and another. So now it's just me and this lady against the 6 infected. As I come around to one of the buildings I see the yellow radar blip, so I know she's in there, but I circled 'round the outside because I also saw a red blip: a zombie. After taking care of it, I went to the entrance to find her looking out the window, using her magnum to kill a zombie running across the basin.

Then, out of nowhere two zombies came rolling down the stairs from the second level and made a rush for her. I managed to get one with my shotgun, and she turns around to try and defend herself, but she misses. Luckily, I popped it with my next shotgun blast. Now, thinking it was just, whatever, I got two kills, yay. I start moving into the next room, but I stopped, because it seemed the other player was trying to get my attention. I turned to her, and she does a little crouch up and down, kinda like a nod or a thank-you thing for saving her. It surprised me, because you never really see that in fps games, really. I did a little nod back, and from that point on we pretty much stuck together and saved each other asses multiple times.

Because we couldn't talk, we ended up using our body language with our avatars to communicate, and it actually worked. We ended up surviving up until we ran out of bullets for the shotgun and magnum. Needless to say, it was pretty awesome, running and maneuvering through the level knowing that someone was always watching your back. Fun times.

The game? TF2.
The map? pl_goldrush.

Our team had been trapped in spawn for the entire game, and it was about 30 seconds to overtime.
We got three ubers out, wiped the other team, and pushed the cart straight to victory.

BFBC2: Conquest on I don't remember.

As per usual, I was fighting all by myself. I ran constantly between B and A. I racked up 22 kills and no deaths. I felt like a god that match.

There's so many on Left 4 Dead (2) that I couldn't possibly describe them all. Anytime me and three friends play a Versus match is always hilarious and memorable.

The first that comes to mind is when I first bought Bad Company 2. The match had just started and my team and I ran towards the middle base to capture (conquest). As I ran down the rolling plains with my squad mates running besides me two tanks rolling past me and helicopters flying ahead. I got the very first feeling of being a part of something awesome. Games like COD never make me feel like a soldier, it was just me, never anyone else to rely on. I don't really like FPS but this game truly gave me what I was looking for in a FPS.

I got two:

Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis

I remember that time, when I was searching for a CTI match on the server list. I saw one with 20-30 players. I quickly jumped in and the match started. 8 hours later we won. Yes. 8 hours. It lasted over the night. That one match, one round. It took me around 1 hour to see my first enemy, but I didn't care, it was the best match I've ever played.

Battleground Europe

I was playing as the Axis. One of our villages was being attacked by Allies, so I decided to give my fellow soldiers a hand. And oh boy what a firefight it was. Artillery rounds exploding all around, men dying, rifle rounds flying, smoke filling the air..... We probably would have lost that battle, but the enemy kept charging in with infantry and left all their tanks to the open field. But it wasn't an easy fight. After 3 hours of non-stop firing, our CO tells "reinforcements are coming in 15 minutes" And they did. About 20 tanks rolled into the village. Allies retreated, but they didn't have anwhere to go. During the battle, units for a different brigade captured the Allies town, where the Allies started the attack. We surrounded them into a open field area and BOOM! No more Allies....

EDIT: Argh, how could have I forgot that epic battle I had on EVE  I was on my 4th trial and I was drafted to a PVP Corp as a mercenary. They were attacking another corp, that had mined on their area. The battle was....well, about 200vs200 battle. Best part? I survived. Got even few kills myself. Rifters are so awesome :)

Hmmm. I have so many, but the most recent and hilarious one would be on Reach.

I was playing Invasion (one team are Spartans spawning with Human weapons and vehicles, other team are Elites with associated weapons and vehicles) on Spire. I was a Spartan, and it was the final stage so the Falcon spawned ( a 3 person gunship). I got into the drivers seat, and two team mates got on the guns. We flew to the Spire, destroying a Banshee on the way. One of my gunners dropped off to grab the power core while the other gave him supporting fire. This was without mics, so we had some pretty good teamwork here. Anyway, the first teammate grabbed the core and jumped off the edge of the Spire, as per usual. By this time he was being chased by more than half the enemy team. My gunner was sniped out (they got our sniper) and I was hit by an overcharged plasma pistol, EMPing my falcon. I crashlanded on the Spire, and was promptly raped by the enemy team.

They had our falcon, and time was running out. I spawned with a Jetpack, and as the now-enemy falcon flew past, I ambushed it from behind some rocks and hijack it. He fell to his death. I now had to enemy gunners who I couldnt kill, and they were still mowing away at my team.

There was only one thing I could do: I flew it off the cliff.

Luckily for me, I had a jetpack, so I could fly. The enemy gunners perished in a mess of explosions.

I flew back to the cliff edge, grabbed the core and ran the last few feet to the evac zone. Game won.
