Why? Because they're worthless shitty mechanics inherited from the peasant piles of shit called consoles.

PC Gamer Master Race, signing off.
Depending on how much you trust Wikipidia, the earliest game to use QTEs was a 1979 arcade game called The Driver where the player had to match their steering wheel, gas pedal and brakes with the movements shown pre-filmed sequences (i.e cutscenes). So they do not originate from consoles but rather coin-operated Arcade machines
Their origin I will not contest but that's not my point either. PC gaming was blessedly free from QTEs from the days of C64 and way into the ever increasing numbers after "Win". There may have been some exceedingly rare reaction timers throughout the very long years until we reached the Xbox/PS2 age on consoles. That's when game designers suddenly decided QTEs were all the rage and stuffed them into every god damn game they could, all on consoles.

PC gaming was -still- blessedly free from the damn things, all the way until devs got lazy and moved on to develop directly for consoles and then just port the whole shite to PC. That's when the damn things started popping up everywhere they -didn't- belong. Bossfights were replaced with shitty cutscenes with QTEs. Horror sequences became completely horror free when you realized the worst conceivable evil in the game could just be swatted away with the right mousebutton. They infested every damn genre out there except RTS and that's probably only because RTS just simply does not fucking work on consoles.

So yes, as far as PC gaming goes, QTEs did originate on consoles and consoles are largely to blame for this insane infestation of gaming in general. Where consoles got them I largely consider irrelevant at this point.
The way you go on about it things sound like QTEs are everywhere, but out of my 57 games for PS2, PS3, and Wii only four of them have QTEs.

On topic. Mass Effect 3's Marauder Shields on insanity before the extended cut

Also any boss in The Answer in Persona 3. The difficulty is stuck on Hard and you can't use the anti-grinding system the game usually has. So grind them dungeons for an hour and maybe you'll beat it this time around!

Shame I gave up after the first few dungeons. I really liked Metris as well. At least I think that was her name, the new robot chick. That one.

I may look up a Let's Play just for the story. Meh I doubt it's that important.
This. This exact thing word for word. The thing that always killed me with these in addition to all that was for whatever reason the AI during these boss fights seemed to become amazingly stupid, doing things like attacking an enemy that I had knocked down, instead of knocking down one of the enemies that only they could knock down. After the first boss (The buff guy and 2 helpers) took me over a half hour due to them actively helping the 3 guys constantly get back on their feet I decided the game wasn't worth the hassle

SO. MANY. CHEAP. SHOTS.
Also,

This guy is bloody soul crushing.
Pretty much every atttack does a TON of damage, even with good armour.
Did I mention he can breath pure death?

OH GOD NO!!
NO!!!!
WHY??!!?!?!?!?
*breaks into tears*

Never got to a high enough rank to get one of those on a mission, but the thing ate my party alive during a rathian hunt. I'm traumatized by the experience!

There are a lot of bosses in FF13 that I had trouble with but mainly because of the stupid level-caps that keep you from getting stronger before you hit Chapter 11.

I bought Mortal Kombat 3 for the PSX from a game place and thought the entire game was horribly, horribly difficult. It took me about an hour to beat the first person, on Novice/Very Easy

He wasn't so bad as long as you didn't wear armor with a high weakness to Dragon element and most of his attacks are pretty avoidable. Still at least he was a fun boss to fight.

I remember in middle school when I played runescape the one boss they had called TzTok-Jad drove me absolutely insane. He could basically one hit most characters from off screen. I got to him once, only to then be killed without even seeing him. To make matters worse one would have to fight through a lot of waves of other enemies before finally getting to him. It would take several hours to get to him only to be killed without even seeing the final boss.

Maybe not the most overpowered boss but certainly the least enjoyable one for me.

Here's a pretty good example of an overpowered boss.

Alpha - 152 from Dead or Alive 4:

I agree totally. I hate Alpha 152, 3 friends and I spent 8 hours passing around the controller in rage just trying to beat the game with every character. We were successful, by the end of the first hour or so her new name became "Plasma B*tch".

Has she tried killing all the miniboss guys? I fell for that too.
OT: I'm agreeing with that wife though, having to fight such a hard boss after all those minibosses is just excessive.
That or that Shroob princess in Mario and Luigi: Partners in time. (Shroob's the name, right? To lazy to google.) Always fail on the third form, if I recall.

I would like to submit...ALL of FF8. Bad gamne full of bad battles and bad story and bad system to go through it with. Good music, though, but that's not enough.

Iseria/Ethereal Queen from...most any Tri-Ace game. Special mention goes to the one in Valkyrie Profile for creating a challenge even when you've figured out how to work the skill system...when she ONLY one shots one person in a round, it's success!

Not to mention, between KH and KH:RCoM you have to fight him 7 times. Yes, seven. That's not counting the Reverse/Rebirth mode either, where you have to fight him at least twice more.
I still have yet to actually beat him for the third time in COM. I've tried so many times, but I think I'll have to concede defeat and start again from the beginning to build a strong deck. I'll pick it up again....eventually.

On a KH note, though, I'll nominate this guy from KH: Birth by Sleep Final Mix.

Once he gets out of his chair, you're screwed. The length of the video should prove that.

Mona & Lisa from the Streets of Rage series gave me a lot of trouble in the first game until I learned to stop asserting myself and just let them take the lead, and react to them. Even then, they still punish your mistakes very hard.

The third time? Just so you know, that's not even the last. Unless I said that already.. haha xD

Once you get to the final time you fight him, you NEED the sleight "Sonic Blade." No deck can defeat him except one stacked with sonic blade. NO deck at all.

I do know, that's why I've given up hope with my deck skills. I think I will just start over, as painfully long as that will be.

Thanks for the tip, though.

Edit: Captcha: are you human?

Well of course, or I would have beat him already!

I wanted to start over too, but if you just use some Feeble Darkness cards, you'd be surprised how quickly you can level up.

Fire Raid. Fire + Atk + Atk. It's like strike raid, but on fire xD Stack your deck to do 3 or 4 of those and throw an elixir or two in there and youve got a leveling deck. Spam Fire raid when enemies are lined up single-file, it goes through all of them once, then again on its way back. Really quick way to demolish every enemy on the screen.

Also, since youre not doing an actual attack, you should use Kingdom Keys for the fire raids. That way you can save CP and maybe fit in 3 Simba cards to stun all enemies before you use your elixir, because theyre usually just value 1 or 2.

You could fit some heals in there too, but it'd be more prudent for leveling up to just use Oogie Boogie if you really end up needing it.

Once you level up, just choose "Sleight." It'll take a few levels to get sonic blade, but it's a LOT easier than starting over. Once you have that, just stack up your deck with sonic blade. I had 4 sonic blades lined up with 5 cures and 3 simbas, 2 potions, an ether and 2 elixirs. All in all it cost less than 1000 CP. Give it a shot, the final battle is much more interesting, and after the fourth time you're done with riku! (Unless you decide to do Reverse/Rebirth, which i tried on Beginner and it is SO boring that i skipped it and went to KH2. Which is... also kind of boring.)

Duke's Third form from Tales of Vesperia,His first 2 forms are at level 50/55, the third form is level 80 and you really get no warning that you will unlock it(via collecting the Fell Arms) his first Mystic arte goes from manageable to one hit party kill and his second mystic arte does a near one hit kill if you're too close and heals him for about 150,000 hp.It's an endurance if your not prepared and still a bit tough if you are.

Also special mention to SMT bonus bosses like Elizabeth, who insta kills you if you don't play her way

Red Rum & Starka from Armored Core:For Answer, as they're both built around ambush tactics and are fought in an area that is both very foggy (so you can't see more than a few feet ahead) and has ECM (so your radar is useless).

Add in the extreme speed with which Red Rum can move, the fact that Starka can one-shot you if he gets a good hit in with his Sword and the buildings in the area that mean even a lock-on doesn't guarantee a hit and you easily have one of the most frustrating/hardest missions in the game, which is only made more obvious by the fact that for the 'Hard(er)' version of the mission the developers apparently just went "No idea how to make this mission worse, just add in a few enemies and call it a day."
