I can think of a certain Kingdom hearts villain named Manse... I mean Xemnas.

Oh and Harpuia is pretty bad seeing as how the name is pronounced nothing like how it looks.

What about Marvel's Dr. Strange, no one names has the last name Strange without ambitions of becoming a super villain, and he's not even that!
The same can be said about Dr. Doom, Dr. Horrible, etc, etc. I love that this is pointed out at the end of the movie Unbreakable

I'd say the most ridiculous character name is Napalm 99.... ridiculously awesome that is.

Despite sounding like a flaming ice cream cone, Napalm 99 was one of the hardest characters in Urban Reign and an all round badass, complete with a badass shouty voice provided by Michael McConnohie.

I was just playing peggle and the horse is called bjorn....I think he is swedish, well each to their own I suppose.

*Edit* I would also like to say that Vaan and Penelo were stupid names from FFXII so was Basch but that isn't as bad.

But what is the most ridiculous, over the top, stupid, twat faced name that you have ever come across in the pursuit of gaming bliss?
Björn is not a stupid name. It's one of my favorite names ever. It means "bear" in Swedish.

"Butz" from Final Fantasy V. Just for the sake of it I renamed him into "Titz".

Harpuia. Not really a bad name, when you ignore the fact that Harpuia is a dude.

Metal Shark Player (all the 8 element-animal boss names in Mega Man X6 are mistranslated, but this one raises the WTF flag the highest)
Blaze Heatnix (I really don't see why they didn't just call him Blaze Phoenix)

There's also Mega Man Zero's weird formula of giving bosses names similar to "(element)(animal)" except with misspelled or completely made up words, like Blazin' Flizard, or Childre Inarabbitta.

And I thought Armored Armadillo (from Mega Man X1) was a stupid name when I first heard it.

For a non Mega Man reference, I'm gonna have to agree with everyone who said Cloud Strife. If I ever make an RPG with undersized protagonists wielding oversized swords, I'll name the protagonist Fog Dispute.

Juste Belmont
Jew-st? Just? Just-ee? I think I'll just pronounce it Juice from now on.

Since the creator of Mega Man was a massive Guns and Roses fan, all of the U.S. names are based off of GnR members and former members. Duff McWhalen is Duff McKagen. Slash Grizzly is Slash, Axel Rosered is... well you get the idea.
I was aware of the Guns 'N' Roses references, but some of the names just sound completely random and unfitting.

Fayt from the third Star Ocean, a not so subtle nudge that he might be fated to save the universe, they might as well have just named him 'I'm the destined Hero, kay?'.
Lol, that's true.

Jack Russell from Radiata Stories. Let's not make it glaringly obvious we were desperate for names and so resorted to whatever species the lead developer's dog must have been?

I'm going with Edge Maverick from Star Ocean.
Dear God I can't believe they named him that.

Worst one I can think of is an old friend on an MMO who called his guy "Eatchildren". The name cracked me up and that is how we met, but he was pretty cool. Just a weird ass name.

OT: Guybrush Threepwood. Do i win?
Seriously? o_O
