Um... when I walk into a game store, the employees tend to treat me like someone who is there to get a Wii Fit or something. Or they assume I'm looking for my "boyfriend".
I'm terrible for that, in my defence its because thats usually the majority of the female demographic I get through the shop is looking for wii fit type stuff or buying 'duty of honor' for their boyfriend whilst rolling their eyes and trying to not touch anything in the shop lest it infect them.

When you have about 2 minutes to deal with a customer you start to take shortcuts to helping them and thats one of them.

*sorry*
true story....my sister recently aparently got her boyfreind "Modern Warcraft black ops" I laughed and also mentioned that "Charlie and the chocolate factory of Narnia" was on that night, as was "Die hard face off"

she wasnt too impressed that I got a PS3 with my own money...a little hypocritical since she got her BF his PS3
I should say though that we do have a pretty regular crowd of girl gamers too and they are as 'hardcore' as anyone else is.
----------
My fave 'girl gamer' story was a father/daughter (daughter about 9 or 10) who played xbox together, like taking turns going through bits of games or doing going if poss...anyways the little girl was super obssessed with halo (ended up giving her my old halo books actually) but was getting bored of it and they wanted a new game to play but a lot of the shooters where too old/violent for her (I know halo is a 15 but still)....dad liked the shooting but the girl liked the sci-fi story/setting...so I though, screw it try mass effect 1 +2 as we had them on a bundle sale thing, dad hums and haws, girl gives puppy dog eyes....and I get the "I heard this is full of sex" talk and have to explain and spoiler what actually happens.

So dad relents buys it and I dont see them for a month or so until one day about 2 month later they come in and the little girl is standing in the door way of the shop, hands on hips and loudly proclaims (in the way little girls do) "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite game store in *location* " , whilst the dad has the 'every damn shop we go into' look on his face :D

Made my damn month I tell ya :)

I made a cake for a cake sale for charity in my office (which is mostly women), it was a lovely chocolate fudge cake. Upon finding out that I made said cake, the rumour mill started churning.

"He bought it at a store"

"His mother made it"

and my favourite:

"His Japanese wife made it."

They (mostly) openly refused to acknowlege my cake's origins. I was pretty offended to be honest, I think because of my age (23), and because I am a man, the idea was simply incomprehensible to these women. (who on a side note, are all in their late 30's-50's, and had baked "little cakes")

In the end I told them that yes, I had in fact made it. And no my "wife" didn't make it, especially considering that I am not married, and that my girlfriend is Greek... :S

That's the only time I've ever felt actually insulted by sexism. It was mainly because it was over something I had put in alot of effort and that it was for a good cause.

I think on reflection, it was jealousy. These women couldn't stand it that they had been surpased in an area they felt they should be "superior".

Not on topic, but I read that about three times and each time I read 'sexist' I saw it was 'sexiest'. And each time your story confused me, because that situation wasn't sexy at all!
I as well. And I had a subway story ready and everything!

I think I said something stupid and somewhat sexist once (ONCE), then a girl called me out on it. I corrected myself, but she kept bugging me about it. I think she was a feminist. Does that count?

haha thats awsome, and pretty cool that they game together, shame that alot of games arnt apropriate for kids (but still arnt any more mature :/)

anyway as I said before I dont think Ive ever really been treated much differently in game stores other than the usual "need any help?" I think I have had a "this is for you right?" (as opased to a BF) to which I enthusiastically reply "yeah!" I dont see any reason to feel insulted over it..I mean we ALL make assumptions

I'd have to say the dumb-ass's (Both male and female) at my school that think 'Derr, Your a guy with long hair, you must be gay!' or 'You've never had a girlfriend,(I'm 14 BTW)you must be gay!' and,my personal favourite, this one time in class, a girl says to me; "You should cut your hair" and I ask why, and she says, "Because boys aren't supposed to have long hair!". (Ironically, I doubt any of them would voice their opinions to the few older guys in my school that have seriously long hair, ie, halfway down their backs)
The second one may not be Sexist that much, but I thought I'd throw it in there for good measure, seeing as, like I said, I do get it from both males and females that I, unfortunately, have to share my classes with.

Lucky for me, I haven't experienced too many of these bad situations in my life. The most sexist thing that's ever happened to me is when my school orchestra was getting new uniforms. The girls got uniforms and the boys got tuxedos. I told my teacher that I wanted a tux and she basically laughed in my face. She said that girls wore dresses and boys wore pants and that's just how it is. I petitioned the school for the option of a gender-neutral uniform and thankfully got my way. Now any girl can wear pants if she so chooses.
I simply adore females wearing Tuxedos (if my avatar is of any indication) i don't know how to describe it, i just love how it gives them a slight masculine boost visually, whilst at the same time gives them the allure of power and something of an androgynous feeling.... :x

Female magicians, now that would cross the line between admirable and downright astounding. (no offense)

But yea, one time a few years ago at secondry school, typing on an online game about something when the girl behind me was openly mocking me by reading what i typed loudly, things that wouldn't have been perseved let alone seen outside the male's mind in today's day and age, she told me to keep quiet because i told her to shut up, but we were in a library, we had to be quiet, didn't stop her from coming from behind and tightly crushing my mouse arm, tried pulling her hand off but didn't work, so i basically tried punching it off.

Got into a small squabble and the librarian saw it from a distance, she came up to us and asked us what happened, i told her that the girl was reading things i was privately writing without my consent and yelled them out loudly. the girl said i was looking at porn (which i was so not doing) and suggested that i should be expelled, the librarian asked if that was true and i told her that i was on an online game, atleast she was thankful that i was less aggressive and truthful....the girl flipped and said "he shouldn't be in this school, he's a ****ing spa-...boy".

So...this situation is double-double standard....?

Something can't be sexist if girls accuse a boy being sexist because he has inner feelings, yet people would scorn the male if he called out on the girl, despite she was the one being sexist....they wouldn't scorn the boy if he had asbergers, which i had. >,>

And before any of you ask how did the librarian knew i was telling the truth? she can look at people's monitors, don't worry, there was a sign near the computers saying that the ICT faculty will randomly observe screens if they feel that something was up.

As a white middle-class male, I can't entirely say that I have.

I can't even say it happens to people around me. I've got a female friend, but I used to hit her (or wrestle with her) regularly.

i am a man, sexist stuff happens to me less often.
my school tried to to force boys to wear suits and girls to wear dresses for all formal occasions and i got ridiculed by smaller minded individuals because my friend and i led the charge to allow everyone to wear what they want. We won and everyone kept bitching through graduation because one guy came wearing a dress.

Well actually; I'm a guy, and I CONSTANTLY have to deal with girls bitching that we are all terrible people. Whereas a lot of sexism toward women is often playful or in insults that they know are not true or just blatant ignorance the shit I have to put up with constantly is something people herald as fact; it's pissing annoying.

/rant

But really; my girlfriends best friend hates me; and I hate her, one such reason is that when we were getting together she tried her UTMOST to attempt to convince my now missus that I would just be in it for the sex, bare in mind I was best friends with my now girlfriend for about a year or so, spent three years in a shitty relationship (of which there was also no sex) and her best friend fucking knew that better than most. Her fucking drivel on how guys only care about sex pisses me the fuck off; and a fair few girls seem to believe it; I've started yelling at her in the middle of class before because she is that stupid.

/rant x2

*ahem*

So yeah; that I guess .

I... I actually can't think of anything. This may because I have really horrendous memory - seriously, I sometime forget what I did 24 hours ago - but I can't remember anything truly sexist happening to me. Most of the "girls can't do this-and-that" type insults I've had come my way have been from boys under the age of 15, and I don't think that really counts.

So... yay?

Wait! My Dad did start badgering me about having babies when I turned 18 (both my sisters had whoops-pregnancies at 18-19). I used to tell him that when my (four years older) brother got kids I'd get cracking too. That usually shut him up =P

EDIT: He wouldn't have cared whether I was married or not either. None of my sisters were married when they had kids with their fellas, although they are now. (One sister took ten years to trot down the aisle.) And my family is Catholic. Go Swedish social mores!

I used to do home economics (for the easy A, you see).
My teacher would never give me a grade higher than C. The girls in my class always got A grades. They burned their food and made a lot of their dished inedible (I should know since we had to eat it). My teacher reasoned that because I have a penis I can't cook or clean even though I always outperformed the girls. In fact, all the guys in my class did better than the girls, but none of us scored higher than C. *****. ¬_¬

You're probably trolling, but I'll anwer anyway.

The context of the conversation made it abundantly clear that the reason I would lose my value is because I am a girl. I assumed that common knowledge of social stigmas would have made this obvious, as it is a widely held belief by many bigots that a woman who has had a few sexual partners is undesirable, because it makes her a "slut", whereas men who have had several sexual partners are percieved as normal. Anyone with half a brain could infer, therefore, that I am a girl, and that my wonderful father was stating the general "rule" when it comes to women and sexuality.

But you're hilarious. You really are. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
