Hiya escapists.
[sub]Yes, three threads in one day. Sorry 'bout that. I'm compulsively distracting myself from studying. It's a problem I'm trying to adress.[/sub]

Basically: Tell us what has been the most important single thing to happen to you in your life.
[sub]Smartass answers like "my birth" will not be accepted.[/sub]

For me, that would probably have to be discovering the world of intoxication. That is to say, mainly alcohol. I hate nicotine in all its forms.
I am a bit of a shut-in, and I wasn't allowed to drink at parties until I turned 17. Until the age of 16 I hadn't really been invited to any parties, so this wasn't much of a problem, but at 16 I moved on to upper secondary school and started to hang out with more pleasant people.
However, I still couldn't drink, so even at these parties I felt ill at ease and out of place. Not to mention how bored I was.
Then, a year later, I learned that alcohol makes me relatively sociable and, well, capable of hanging out at parties without getting all depressed.
Plus, this event has led me to a good couple of new friends, given me a new appreciation of music, and given me something more social to do on the weekends than hanging out on the internet all day.

Fuck, I had to remember that again...

Excuse me for a while, during which I'll try to cheer myself up again.
Ouch.
Go to my other thread.

Yeah I considered responding to this, but all the major significant events in my life over the last 3-5 years have involved illness or the sudden death of loved ones. Damn your thread, Jonluw!

Is it sad I had to think about it?

I suppose finally deciding upon my chosen career counts, considering nothing else is springing to mind. That more than anything else is probably what started me down the fictional path I'm headed now.

It's a tough call. Only time will tell whether me getting into university or getting my first girlfriend becomes more significant.

Meeting my boyfriend, sounds a bit sappy, I know, but it is quite true. He has changed me in many ways for the better, and inspired me to aim for my dreams. Without him I don't think I would have done so well at university and I would have completely given up on many things that gave me joy. I love him so much.

Err I guess my recent one was finally gotten myself a job. I know I was lucky to had gotten one since I know many of yous are still unfortunate despite doing your best at the job hunt.

I won't take it for granted as I have been working hard at it and intend to stay at my position for a while (it will look good for my CV) despite my parent want me to find another job with a better wage (consider it took me years to get a job, I ain't going to risk my job just to find another place that pay better since I don't hate my job at all).

Being diagnosed with ,in a nutshell, antisocial personality disorder, (basically psychopathy), as well as ADHD (predominatly attention defeceit), didn't really change the way I get along with others but sure as hell changed the way people act around me, for some reason, and I always found it very aggravating when people seem to walk around on eggshells around me when they find out, always watching me outta the corner of their eyes like I'm gonna do a cartwheel and start eating a kitten or something. Nevermind just talking to me like a supposedly "Normal" human being its better just to remain ignorant at least that way they're in the clear no matter what happens. Pathetic. Although I can't blame them when I reflect on myself but still it stands on one's nerves regardless.

I'd like to believe being born was probably the most significant event in my life.

Otherwise, I guess having a girlfriend who likes to push my boundaries has been good for me.

I'd say that pretty much the defining moment of my life so far was when I competed in what's called a "Sport Jiu-Jitsu" competition. Think of it like a mixed martial arts fight, except with light contact only and some weird rules (like, if the fight goes to the ground, both fighters will be stood back up in 30 seconds, even if one guy's in the middle of a submission). I got two matches. I lost the first match and won the second. Both matches were won/lost by points. The day that I got a silver medal, and a black eye, was the best day of my life. Or at least until the day I make my amateur kickboxing debut.

Probably my graduation from college. It marked an end to a loooong period of schooling (I'm talking about everything since Kindergarten here), a truly rewarding thesis project and the end of an era with the best friends I'll ever have.

Mental illness has significantly changed my life plan for the better. Before I was planning on just going into scientific research for life, but now I'd find that way too stressful, and am more focused upon getting enough money to be secure in life, and enjoying things in the moment. I care a lot less about exams etc, which is sort of bad as I have one first thing tomorrow morning and should really be in bed.

The second thing that changed my life is discovering Linux...I say it a lot, but it's because of this that I can make software, rescue old computers, and I've even got a placement because of it. I'd predict Android is going to be the next most significant event of my life, as I'm getting quite into that now.

The death of my dad, close to two years ago. He was old, and it wasn't really unexpected, but it took a long time. There's a point I recall, when he was in hospital, the point when we all realised he wasn't going to be leaving the hospital. I wonder when he knew it.

Balancing that out, I'd say alternately when I met someone (a few months earlier) who's been very important to me since, and who's stuck by me through the after effects of the death - god knows why, I've been an asshole to them as often as not. Not intentionally but still...

Either becoming an uncle or..... the severe appendicitis... its great seeing my nephew hes such a cute kid and hes making me grow more fond of having kids of my own someday. As for the appendicitis.. that was a horrible experience i dont wish on anyone and am lucky i can only have once.

Getting smashed for the first time combined with my first mosh pit. Kinda awakened my to the fact that other people feel the way I do and I shouldn't judge other prematurely or shut them out simply because i suspect they're average douche bags.

My crisis of faith when I was 17. I'd become really disillusioned with everything around me, especially what faith I had in Christianity. Then one of my teachers brought to class a book that's something of an amalgamation of Native American traditions, and it answered everything I'd been wondering about spirituality. That day is, at the moment, the single most pivotal point in my life, and considering the enormous positive impact it's had so far, it's probably going to retain that spot.
