Yea, this was before I started watching Terminator, Hollow Man, and The Shining- movies that expanded my fear/comfort zone, yet effectively killed my dreams.

Now the only dreams I remember having involve Left 4 Dead, with my friends as the three other survivors. Now if that doesn't scream fanboy, I don't know what does.
Haha, almost every dream I can remember having in the past half a year had to do at least slightly with a game..

as for fanboying, half of the reason I still have been playing Far Cry 2 lately is because I'm obsessed with Josip Idromeno Dx he's such a fucking badass.
Lol I remember playing FC2, and although I rarely used Josip, the times I did use him, he never disappointed. I think he was one of the buddies that I had to mutilate during that last mission. It was hard, but, boy, was that fun as hell.

But I really hated working with Quarbani or that snotty American Marine. The Irish guy's fine, he just swears a lot, and usually without reason. And it seems like I've always had bad luck with him...

When I was working in Port Selao, and we had just blown some objective to high heaven, and with the merc reinforcements coming, I decided to whip out my Carl G and do some damage. Little did I know, my buddy was directly behind me when I fired. Well, since that type of rocket launcher is little more than an open tube, my buddy got the exhaust flames as I fired right in his face. Picture my reaction when I turn around and see him writhing in agony on the ground.

"Awh, damn, and to think I was starting to tolerate your potty mouth..."

Look at the picture, then imagine a few thousands of those charging your position.

Personally my vote goes toward the Tyranids of the Warhammer 40k universe, for a good number of reasons.

They are controlled by a single consciousness that spans the entirety of their race, unsurprisingly called the 'Hivemind,' the physical manifestation of which is measured in LIGHT YEARS.

They devour every shred of organic matter on a given planet and apply thousands of years of evolution to the genetic identities of their prey. Literally, they will eat you, vomit you into the mycetic pools, and you will emerge a perfect incarnation of what you once were - utterly bound to the will of the Hivemind.

Most importantly though is what's written in their codex. It literally describes the Tyranids as the inevitable representation of death and rebirth, and it says of them that every living creature is doomed to stand against them, fight, and ultimately lose.

Dear god, they are HORRIFYING.
I have not actually played Warhammer 40k but from what you have said they are remarkably like the Zerg.

I am an SC fan to my dying breath, so I have to say that the zerg are more scary. Just in my humble opinion, please correct me if I am wrong.

Chaos from Anachronox, an entity from the-universe-before-this-universe who is using time/space manipulation to dump matter from his universe into this universe so that his will never collapse, and this one will never exist.

I'd also have to go with the Master from Fallout, whose exposure to the FEV virus mutated him into a pile of goop that absorbs and transforms any living thing it comes into contact with into a servant of the Master, who is attempting to save humanity by absorbing everything into his collective consciousness.

Or the Coeurl from A. E. van Vogt's The Black Destroyer, which is essentially an enormously intelligent large cat with huge front legs and tentacles that absorb the phosphorous from any living thing they come into contact with. It has the ability to manipulate the fabric of the universe, disintegrating and transmographying matter into whatever it wishes on a limited scale.

I don't think we can just come up with just one race, alot of them out there are scary as fuck for different reasons:

Daleks: Hell bent on killing everything that isn't them and are tough as nails with heavy firepower.

Cybermen: Their conquest of worlds, converting everything into more cybermen at any cost.

Weeping Angels: It's just how fast they move in the time a person blinks and for gods sakes don't let them touch you!

"Midnight" creature: Hell, even the Doctor didn't know what that was.

Vashta Nerada: They could be in any shadow and oh yeah "Hey! Who turned out the lights?".

Reavers: If they catch you they'll rape you to death, eat your flesh and sew your skin into their clothing and if your very very lucky they'll do it in that order.

Wraith: Creatures who gleefully suck the life out of you to feed themsevles and leave behind a dried up mummy like corpse in their wake.

I think it's a tie between the Weeping Angels and the Vashta Nerada.

On one hand, you've got a swarm of air parahnas, they can strip you to the bone in less than a second. They could be ANYWHERE.

Then on the other, you've got creatures who's true forms you never see. The moment you lay eyes on it, it becomes invincible. What's really scary about these guys is not what you do see, it's what you don't.

Although I'm open to any other suggestions you folks might have.

The Tyranids seem a LOT like the Zerg to me. Perhaps there is a lack of originality here.

If you can destroy planets, extinguish races, and end goverments with a screwdriver.. then you've earned my fear.
I just had this image of a man standing on top of a mountain poking it with a screwdriver. I thank you.

Zerg (tyranids are rip offs in my eyes so they don't count) they take over planets and devour the natural life forms so they can reproduce them as genetically enhanced fighting machines...and also there are only a small tribe of alien warriors that can actually destroy the zerg leader (a giant biological mass called "the overmind" who commands all zerg and makes them evolve) and even if they do destroy the overmind, some of the lower commanders (smaller biological masses called "cerebrates" who command the divisions of the zerg force) can reform themselves into a new overmind.
and let's not forget that a single hive cluster (where the zerg are spawned from) managed too destroy 3 armies of terrans (humans) and protoss (aliens) due to the incredible reproductive abilities of zerg. a hive cluster spawns up to 3 larvae that can evolve into any of the zerg life forms, and if they are spawned into zerglings (standard zerg attack unit, equal to a fully geared marine) a single larvae produces 2 zerglings.
EDUCATION FAIL!

Tyranids where around BEFORE the Zerg as such how can Tyranids be rip off's is anything, they are based on Xenomorphs then expended.

The Cylons from the Battlestar Galactica remake, I know they just look like us but it's scary how well they can pass for human in a crowd of people.

With all the Dr. Who references made here, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Weeping Angels. Nothing's creeiper than something that only moves when you're not looking at it!
Agreed, anything "innocent", "good" or something everyday that you don't give any second thoughts about turned bad has to be the most terrifying race in anything.

Reavers to quote serenity "they'll rape you to death, eat you and then sow your skin into their clothes and if you lucky they'll do it in that order" Just imagine that in any other order
