Sonic Syndicate, however when they release their next album I think the word will start spreading... I think it has begun a bit already, they have toured with In Flames and stuff so yeah... and the bassist is super-hot, Karin Axelsson. :D
I think that will depend on whether they get a good replacement for Roland. A lot of the fanbase starting building after he joined.

I'd have to add Throwdown onto that list, as they're not as big as they could be with some of their songs. Also Unsun and Machinae Supremacy. :D

I'm sure this has been done before, but threads like this go dead pretty quickly so I can't fault you for that. Also thank you for being new and using the search button :D

I'd say Darkest Hour, Architects and Bleed the Sky. 3 very good metal bands (Darkest hour especially) that barely anybody I know has heard of.
Darkest Hour is extremely underrated. Also, the band Mercenary is really good but underrated because they aren't based in the U.S.

Bloody hell, another fan? :D

Well, that and they won the Band Contest and got signed with Nuclear Blast. :D

But yeah, Roland has some powerful vocals and they are gonna need someone special if they arent to screw up.

Very much a fan :D In fact, Prelude to Extinction is on as I write this XD

Yeah the big name signing helped a hell of a lot but it's Roland's clean vocals that help them appeal to the wider audience, not as many people like Eden Fire over their later stuff ;o

I wouldn't mind seeing a return to the old style, but I think that too many fans would leave now that the clean vocals are such a part of their style. I just hope they find someone good :D

And so I don't totally derail this thread, I'll add Scars of Life, Paradise Lost, Daysend and Threat Signal to my list. ^_^

Only one mention for Gojira in 4 pages? Wow. Come on, people.
Guess that makes them VERY UNDERRATED! Such an awesome band.

Pretty much anything I could think of has already been said, except for a few.

First: Mael Mórdha. Haven't really heard much said about them, but they are an awesome band with some epic lyrics.

Second: Theatre of Tragedy. Okay, I have no idea how popular they were over in Europe, and I know Liv Kristine did a song with Cradle of Filth, but around here, I whenever I mention them I get blank stares.

Third: Type O Negative. Yeah, they have sort of a cult following, or whatever you want to call it. But all I ever hear is Black No.1 by some Goth wannabe. Metallica may have got me into metal, but these guys really made me love it.

Actually a new band that started a few years ago in Montreal, it's called Blackguard I saw them live and after that I had to find their stuff. If you like folk metal give them a listen. Also try Bloodbath, really good death metal, it's a side project of Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt. and I have more, also check out Arsis they're Technical death metal and they have REALLY good guitar work. I have tons more but I'm too lazy to list and describe them all.

I don't know where you are, but I don't know a single person who hasn't heard darkest hour. I personally don't feel they're all that fantastic.

Arsis are outstanding. I was at a show two or three years back and they were opening for Decapitated, I just had happened to discover them a few weeks prior and found myself talking to someone in the crowd before one of the local bands went on stage. I was telling him how I was just as much there to see this new Arsis as I was to see Decapitated (RIP), he talked to me for a good half an hour before going on stage himself, it turns out he was the vocalist. That kind of humble is not one that you find in popular music.

The Jonas Brothers.
But seriously, I'd say Amon Amarth - they don't get too much play outside of Scandinavia. (ODEN GUIDE OUR SHIPS, OUR AXES, SPEARS, AND SWORDS)

What's the deal with metal anyway? Why doesn't everyone just listen to Psychedelic rock instead (it's the musical equivalent of LSD)

Kamelot. They're a power metal band based out of Florida and they are the shite. Seriously. Two of their albums, Epica and The Black Halo, put together, were a fantasized, metalized version of the story of Faust. It is badass.

Plus, the guitarist, Thomas Youngblood, has a really great butt. This I know. (Standing at the front of the stage during concerts has its perks, damnit.)

Other good ones off my list are Sonata Arctica, Nightwish (with both old and new singers, yes), Blind Guardian...yah. But srsly, Kamelot.

Maybe because everyone has different tastes in music? Psychedelic rock is pretty cool though.

Possibly not underrated and more than likely known by plenty of people but I never seem to hear people talk about or even mention Bathory.

Diamond Head. They were around the 80s and were one of Metallica's biggest influences. They never met any success whatsoever.

Water under the bridge, sir. I realize that not everyone lives in an area or with people who share their tastes in music to some degree, but LoG made it on the main tracklist of Guitar Hero 2, so they're not really that underrated. Anything on the bonus track list from those games can still be somewhat underrated since those tracks tend to be a little more suit-to-taste and not as generally appealing.

On topic, a band that could use more exposure is High On Fire.
Checked out some of High On Fire's Stuff... damn good I second this suggestion more people should know of them, I will spread the word!

YES. I love me some Type O. Live, they weren't so hot, but i love their studio work, mainly because I love layers, and Type O has a lot of that in their tunes.

Hmm, more underrated metal bands. Born of Osiris? I don't know many people that have heard of them.

Oh! I got one! Dethklok! Sure, they aren't necessarily big name, it just seems that way because of the cartoon, but the Dethalbum is freaking sick.
