Dream Theater
You've got to be joking. Not only are DT one of the most overrated bands in the history of music, but their pretentious tendencies toward being "progressive" continue to obfuscate the fact that they're just another shitty metal band with clean vocals. What exactly makes people believe they are so special?

"Hurr hurr, their drummer uses a double-bass pedal, and I can hear the bass guitar over the rest of the track. They're so unique and talented!"

Sorry to sound like a troll, but this is really an issue on the internet, where people can be seen tonguing James Labrie's balls all the way from here to 4chan.
Actually a lot of people consider dream theater to be prog where it`s all about the artistic wankery
But...wankery isn't artistic!

It is if it's done right. Classical music is pretty wankery. So is Jazz. Have you heard Coltrane? The guy is all over the place.

Between the Buried and Me. A great band with amazing potential, awesome music lyrics, very talented, and the skill and grace to transition from death metal, to falsetto, to A FUCKING POLKA! A POLKA! IN METAL, GO FIGURE! But yeah this band, especially the Silent Circus, is one of the most unpopular bands that should be as big as Avenged Sevenfold (who are now the shittiest excuse for metal ever)

Yes, yes, but we aren't talking about music with the depth of jazz or (especially) classical here. There's no build, very few dynamics, and to be honest I believe most guitar wankery performed in their later songs is just DragonForce-esque tapping. The point I'm trying to make here is that you and approximately 1,400,000 other people need to realize that Dream Theater isn't some sort of musical revelation, and that they're simply playing off their own popularity.

*shrug* you may be right. Honestly I don't even listen to Dream Theater. If you're right about them sounding like DragonFarce then that's a shame because DragonFarce is total crap.

The Faceless and Cynic are my favorites.

Also, I'd like to say that A7X = terribly generic, boring rock. Barely even metal in my opinion.

Turmion Kätilöt. A Finnish industrial metal band.

I don't hear about them very often, especially not here in the US.
This man is very right, they basicaly do what Rammstien do but better.

And my contribution is; the entire genre of doom metal.

if you're looking for metal in general... well I know an awesome Death metal band... Lamb Of God. if you don't know them then you aint into the harder end of metal...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Death Metal? Lamb of God? Wash your mouth out with soap. While LoG sometimes gets labeled as such, I'd hardly consider their style that much aligned with traditional Death Metal like Morbid Angel and company. Influenced? Sure, but definitely not Death Metal.
I don't give a crap if someone is "Harder" I mean songs like "Blood of the scribe" "Break You" "Laid to Rest" in my opinion if you're a metal band singing(if you can call it that) about death you're a death metal band or you're a metal band that's made a death metal album...
Uhhh, yeah.. that's not what Death Metal is, man. By that logic every metal band is a Death Metal band because every metal band has sung about death.

Lamb of God are Groove Metal. Death Metal is stuff like Morbid Angel, Entombed, Monstrosity, Nile, Vader, and Deicide. Please get your terminology right.

Aight fair enough, least you didn't phrase your statement in an insulting manner unlike mister Nigh invulnerable up there.
I will agree they aren't a death metal band. but i will say some of their tracks have a pretty strong death metal feel... but bleh tired of arguing... anyhow I like pretty much all metal. so i guess it doesn't matter in the big picture.
Really, I was mostly laughing at your choice of calling them underrated. They've gotten Album of the Year awards from metal magazines (such as Revolver, though I wouldn't really consider that much of an achievement), have sold quite a few albums, and have headlined tours. Also, I dispute your claim of 'death metal' in reference to LoG, but it's no big deal.
well underrated can be seen as a local thing... where i live seems everyone is into hiphop and rap and other such nonsense... pretty much nobody else in the area listens to metal anymore... only a few people I've met have ever heard of them... so to me they are underrated... but still I will apologize for my statement above quoted. I was really tired and kinda drunk at the time... no hard feelings... (it's why I try not to post when inebriated, i tend to get a bit hasty with angry comenting...)

Mushroomhead, Dethklok, and 216. All 3 great bands. I know that Dethklok has been said, but it can stand to be said again.

Water under the bridge, sir. I realize that not everyone lives in an area or with people who share their tastes in music to some degree, but LoG made it on the main tracklist of Guitar Hero 2, so they're not really that underrated. Anything on the bonus track list from those games can still be somewhat underrated since those tracks tend to be a little more suit-to-taste and not as generally appealing.

On topic, a band that could use more exposure is High On Fire.
