I've been a metal fan for about a year and a half now and it's usually the biggest bands that get the most attention (go figure), but recently I've started to listen to bands like Opeth and Tarot who are AMAZING!

I'm not sure about Opeth but not many people outside of Finland seem to know about Tarot which is a shame as they are a phenomenal band.

I'm just here to ask all you Metal heads here who do you think is an underrated metal band but with their amount of skill should be ruling the world.

And as a note I checked the search bar and nothing came up like this so if this has already been done, my bad =/

I'm sure this has been done before, but threads like this go dead pretty quickly so I can't fault you for that. Also thank you for being new and using the search button :D

I'd say Darkest Hour, Architects and Bleed the Sky. 3 very good metal bands (Darkest hour especially) that barely anybody I know has heard of.

Akercocke. If there was any justice in the world, they would be at least as big as Cradle of Filth, if not bigger.

freakin Sarcofago [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9onMTrJh3o&fmt=18]. they were way ahead of their time, kinda sounds like Deathcrush -era Mayhem, only faster and more shouty.

Dream Theater
Northern Kings
Blind Guardian
Sturm und Drang (They're not the best yet, but give them ten or so years and they'll be amazing.)
Sonata Arctica
Misery Signals

That's a few off my list.
The last time we had this thread, I posted some others, but I don't remember...

Hell yeah, everyone just sees them for their costumes, but they are actually write amazing music. I can't want until next month when Lust in Space comes out.

As far as fan base I would have to say The Dillinger Escape Plan. Yes, they do have a lot of critical acclaim, but I do not know many people who know them. They are awesome!

YES!

Cathedral have always deserved to be bigger.
And Engel, no-one has ever heard of them, but Absolute Design was phenomenal, my album of 2007.

Metallica. :p
Can't really call them underrated.
Opeth is an obvious choice. I'd have to agree with Gwar as well. Their last album thrust them out of punk and into metal once and for all. I've seen both a few times.

Carnal Forge and Dying Fetus are two very underrated bands, as are Brain Drill and Bathed in Blood.

Anterior.

I came across them a few weeks after thier first album came out, by browsing the Metal Blade Records website. Since then I been watching as more and more people have been slowly becoming aware of them, but they are still rarely known, because they've only been signed for a couple of years.

Their only album out, This age of silence (2007), is a masterpiece by current standards go, and they are in recording for a new one right now. Mark my words, I want to say this on record. In a few years, they will be huge.

Listen to thier album. Every song is excellent, the best probably being This Age of Silence [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6pcJOS_vTE] or Dead Divine [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZfdbxpOdHo]

For a debut album it's astounding, and I can't wait to hear what they will come up with on their new track.

This is somewhat unrelated , but too related for me to make a thread about it.

Can anyone recommend some good Gothic Metal bands, stuff like Lacuna Coil?

Your welcome, spread the word, and hopefully these guys will get a US tour.

Also, there is a quote button, just click that, and it will quote.

If your into the hair/glam metal scenes too you gotta make sure you check out the likes of; Autograph & Britney Fox... they were very famous but always pushed aside by the MotleyCrue's and heavier metal bands.

But in my opinion all forms of metal is awesome and totally under-rated since it requires alot of skill to perform (as with many other genres of music)... i just think its about time people stopped being ignorant and actually accept that rap/R&B bullshit is killing music since who cant stand on a stage and swear down a micorphone in quick succession (though how they claim R&B is actually R&B since its "rythum & blues", which is a form of jazz??).

Also a couple of other awesome metal bands are Gotthard, Tigertailz and Crashdiet.

i'll be sure to keep my ears open for Opeth and Tarot too (=

hahaha i figured it out =P
I like the way you think sir and you made an excellent point about Glam metal as it has quite a number of awesome bands like the Crue and Van Halen but everyone knows them. A good Glam band is Steel Panther but I'm sure about them cause they just take the piss of modern music
