*searches music collection so I can namedrop a really obscure band to show how cool and underground I am*

Ahh, nope, nothing...

Well, seeing as I've never heard them mentioned on this forum (they're not obscure I promise) I reckon I could consider them as under rated. So without futher ado, I present to you:

STRAPPING YOUNG LAD!

Check 'em out. They fucking rock.

EDIT: I am gona name drop an obscure and underrated band actually. Orange Goblin, if you like stoner metal, have a listen.

I also think Down and Corrosion of Conformity are pretty under rated... Well maybe not Down, but Corrosion of conformity definitely are.

Sacred reich [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdvy24wD6RM] and Blitzkrieg [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwsZsTLebcY] (though metallica have helped to spred the word about the latter)

Not sure how well known they are but Diamond Head. I mean, they were one of the main influences for Metallica!

Hell yeah, everyone just sees them for their costumes, but they are actually write amazing music. I can't want until next month when Lust in Space comes out.

As far as fan base I would have to say The Dillinger Escape Plan. Yes, they do have a lot of critical acclaim, but I do not know many people who know them. They are awesome!
Oh yeah DEP is underrated but they are also hard to listen to at first (example 43% burnt) but they are awesome despite looking like high school jocks.

other underrated metal bands
Gojira
Opeth
Mastadon
Verbal Deception
Alestorm
Genghis Tron
Demon Hunter
...And especially Meshuggah (I believe they are the one of the most influential bands in metal)

The Dillinger Escape Plan. No one, and i repeat, NO ONE where I live know about this phenomenal band, only my friends who I've beaten their music into. I imagine they're pretty big in America though.
They kick ass in concert!

Saw them at Bonnaroo with Nine Inch Nails and in they're own show. It would definetly be in my top 15 concerts. (thats not a low number, I just go to concerts a lot)

Turisas, Alestorm, Devildriver, Dark Tranquilty, and Eisbrecher(???) are very underrated but the most of all is Powerman 5000.

The Black Dahlia Murder. I know they have a big-ish fanbase in the States but I'm Aussie and only one person I know has heard of them.

Otherwise, The Red Shore and The Red Chord.

Meshuggah. They have a bunch of different sounds, so here are some songs.

Early Days
Second album, more refined
Third, "thrashiest" album
Newer, jazzier sound
