Turning the headlights on and off in GTA4. Waste of a perfectly good button.
Hell no!. That game was so dark on my screen that I always had to have the lights on.

Most DS games that whack in a stupid touch screen minigame just to use the touch screen. And the whole "blow into the mic to do whatever" thing.

The poffin mingame in Pokemon D/P/Pl, just why exactly?
You do understand what "useless" means, right? Please tell me you do (though apparently not).

If it is required to complete a game (the blowing into the mic) then it's not useless.

Now the Select button on Playstations and Back button on Xbox 360's controller. Now that's a useless button.
My bad, I misunderstood. I went for "pointless" rather than useless. In which case I will come back when I can think of something that hasn't already been posted.

And no need to be such a bastard about a mere misunderstanding...

The back button on the Xbox360 contoller has many uses in various games.

The analogue stick buttons dont seem to have any use. Many people dont even notice that there is a button there!

The "Exit Game" button in World of Warcraft. Seriously, what kind of WoW player stops? =P

Uhm, most useless button, eh?
Other than blinking in Alone in the Dark, I'd say the back button on the 360 controller, no idea what that does.
Wow, strange. I can't tell who the troll is here... Hm.

I'll second the Select button on PS2.

The Back button on Xbox 360. Never pressed it once.
Mass Effect, oddly enough, uses it for grenades. RE5 uses it to skip cutscenes. Both could possibly be to make up for all the times you've never pressed it.

The Z button on the Gamecube is pretty much the same thing. Either you're opening the map with it, or you're not using it at all.

Analogue stick buttons indeed! Can't remember which game it was, but there was one recently where I'd be running around, and because I'd be pushing too hard on the LS, I'd sporadically duck down whilst charging across a battlefield. Many deaths ensued.

Well, I'm sorry Mr. "Youhurtmyfeelings". Heh, nevermind, I'm just joking.

But about the blowing in the mic, I really don't like it either. Especially the "Objection!" at the end of the Phoenix Wright games. I always go to the room that's farthest from anyone else in the house if that happens.

Hey, the 360's back button is very useful if you're developing games for it. Where else are you going to get a button that you're not going to include in your control scheme that you can use to instantly quit the game when debugging?

ctrl-alt-e to eject in MW2.

I mean, if you eject you FAIL THE MISSION ANYWAY, and you have to reload your saved game.
If you die, it's game, you died, just reload your saved game.

Either way you're doing the same outcome, just not disabling the auto-eject makes you effectively quit/die with 20% less health. Well, cockpit damage, but blow me.

Probably any button in a fighting game that taunts, I'll taunt the guy once I've killed him.
A 50+ combo causing an instant defeat is a good enough taunt to me.

You guys never played Bioshock eh? The back button is used to open the map screen.

And in Soul Calibur 4 you press it to play as Chuck Norris!
MAPS??? Who uses maps? Real men get stuck into exploring and never use a map, even when they get stuck and hopelessly lost.
Thank god Samus was a woman then, otherwise I'd never have finished those games.
