As most all Xbox Live users know today the new update for Avatars/Netflix came out today(for the U.S. at least). Now the main difference that everyone is talking about is new gear for your Avatar that you can puchase.

I personally just looked over the gear that you can obtain using XBL points and I thought most of them were cool(Splinter Cell: Conviction gear, Gears 2 armor, shirts, hats ect.) but, and this is a big but, I don't see them worth costing up to 400 points for. I mean why would you pay a little over 4 bucks for somthing that you can't even use for entertainment, only to further display your love for a certain game, which you can basically do using the motto or bio. What does the Escapist community think? Am I just nit picking? Or do people share my oppinion? Is there any way they could've made this better?

As I said to my friend after I updated, I'm not going to pay for something that's useless. Avatars are used in a very small amount of games, most of them arcade, and it's not like a can't make a satisfactory little animated me without shelling out a few hundred MS points for.
The unlockable items that will come with new games, I can see the point in. It's an incentive, and it's probably more worthwhile than just <Achievement Noise, meaningless number updated>.

Okay I'll admit it..... (Sigh) I BAUGHT A BIG DADDY HELMET WITH THE EXTRA POINTS I JUST DOWNLOADED FOR FALLOUT 3 DLC.... ohhh Glad I got that off my chest..

*bracing myself to be shunned by everybody*

EDIT: But a lot of that shit was WAYYYYY too expensive, I mean at least make the gears helmet come with the armor instead of being separate

I did think that was a good idea but there is absolutly no discription of how to get them, so I'm not sure if that's how you get them.

I think they should have let u spend your achievement points on them. That way they actually do something.

Overpriced garbage. "Oooo I can spend $5 for a set of COG armor and be unique - just like everyone else!" But really, what else is new?

That said, I would very much enjoy unlockable outfits/props for getting certain achievements in the actual games. Like, if you beat Mile High Club on Vet you should get Capt. Price's mustache.

Yeah, I know we haven't been officially told yet but I assumed it would be something along the lines of them unlocking with certain achievements, or with other specific criteria the way armour permutations unlocked in Halo 3.

Because motion control/immersion has completely failed this gen.../sarcasm

Anyway, I think it's somewhat useless. Paying 400 MS points for a set of clothes for a fake-me? No thanks. However, wasting those annoying 40/80/160 points is now much easier, wooh.

It is. Not always linked to achievements, but they are obtained via doing something in-game, such as Splosion Man's breaking glass (lame, I know) to get the t-shirt.

Why the moustache?

As far as this thread goes I will admit I spent some points that were just wasting away on my account, but I do feel bad because the moment I spent them I realized that Map Pack 3 was available for COD:WaW so now I need 400 more points. =\ Oh well at least my Avatar looks like a Spetznaz Operative now. =P

I'm pissed that we didn't get the Big Daddy suit -.-
maybe it's a prize from beating Bioshock 2..... I managed to get around the sillyness by giving my guy a hawaiian shirt and swimming trunks.... -.- well maybe he does look a little silly still

Well I'm glad somone has answers about that, it's kinda lame it doesn't work for old games though, or at least it doesn't seem to. Although I kinda get pissed when I only have like 40 points left so I could use that to get rid of them, however for 80 points I can get a Rockband song which actually provides entertainment.

Why NOT the moustache? Capt. Price's mustache is basically an old-time porno mustache!

I'd rather stick with the imaginary crap than pay to pretend to play a song that I already own.

Anyway, yeah, it sucks that it's not backwards-compatible. Guess the next "big" title that will no doubt use the award system will be Halo: ODST.

Like everyone else, it's over-priced. But I can't wait till Assassin's Creed 2, for the coat reward. THEY WILL HAVE IT!
