The new badges: getting a little over the top?

Recently, new badges were introduced into The Escapist, rewarding people who watch shows on the website (other than Zero Punctuation)

Now... since this happened the number of badges I have has well over doubled in count, within just 3-4 days. I feel that it was a bit over the top, frankly... I found myself losing the satisfaction in acquiring new badges, and I felt like I was acquiring these new badges without really putting any effort or contribution into the site.

So, what does everyone else think? Do you think its getting too easy to acquire badges? How do you feel about the new 'content' badges?

it does kinda remove some of the satisfaction of getting new badges... but you still have to fight for the good ones.

It annoys me because I see I have new messages thinking that maybe someone wants to say Hello, but no....stupid badges.

Who gives a damn? They are just badges and they in no way ruin your ability to enjoy this website.

That might also be because some of those badges are still being awarded by accident while they work out the kinks in the new system.

It makes no difference either way. They're easily obtained, so there nothing to brag about. If anything, you're a faithful to escapistmagazine.com, that's not so bad.

This.

It's just a way for the creators of the site to show their appreciation for you watching the video series that they put out.

I have to admit, the recent flooding of my inbox with notices of badges is getting a bit tiresome. But, I guess it also encourages new members on the boards, as well as adds a small incentive to go and try watching some of the shows.

Although I was clearly awarded some badges I hadn't actually earned...

Exactly, and it's a way for the fans to show how much they appreciate the video contributors' work.

They're just bliddy badges, you shouldn't let them affect your overall time on the Escapist.

Good afternoon, sir. So, did you catch the Stallone Retrospective at the Ambience last night?

No, I'm pretty sure its not by accident... I have, afterall, accomplished all the tasks of watching Escapist video's to get the badges (since I watch pretty much everything on this site). It just seems a tad too easy, really =\

Well, the badges are supposed to be rewards for doing things worthy of nerd praise, am I right? I that's the case, just watching all the videos shouldn't qualify you to more of them, it's just watching a video. Not that they're bad videos, they are quite good, mostly, but I don't think that it's fair to just hand out kuddos for staring into your computer screen as the flashy lights go by.

It doesn't really bother me, shooting for the Neo badge and that'll mean something (if) when I get it.

80% there and no moderator wrath so far, live in hope.

Even then, not every badge has to be a back-breaking experience to obtain. It's like how Achievements/Trophies come in different point amounts based on how hard they are to accomplish.
