The new "Home" of the internet

I would like to subject everyone to a breif glimps of the future of the Home and what I beleive the real strategy behind this "killer app" is.

This Christmas, and for several years after, Joe Notagamer will step into his local retailer (or back of a truck) for a new Blu-ray player and as instructed by retailers will walk out with a 97% dependability, websurfing, game playing PS3. When Joe plugs in this new devise he will be prompted to (after several downloads) enter Sony's new internet application dubbed Home. Curiousity being a key factor in human behavior and evalution, he will soon find himself in an appealing enviroment where he can be "himself". He takes all of 2 seconds to notice walking (another natural human function) is as simple as pressing forward on his wireless KB or sixaxix controller (key to Wii sales being its easy-to-use interface).

A few more easy steps and he finds himself in a sprawling enviroment that has all the basic draws of the internet without the pop-ups (argueably), viruses, hackers, and financial comentment that have kept him from enjoying the core PC users experience for years. Joe notices people chatting with eachother simple by being near others. He notices his favorite TV show on the virtual bigscreen, oh look.... theres the new Ironman movie, maybe he will rent it without leaving his "home". He notices the new LBP game his kids have been wanting for Christmas is purchaseable without him standing in line at Toys R Us listening to brats scream. He sees interesting looking people dancing and having a good time chatting about nothing in particula. He notices a shop where he can get a shirt with his favorite TV shows logo on it for FREE.

So instead of him just watching the same boring thing on TV (besides Lost :p) he spends the rest of his day engulfed in this easy-to-use application collecting items or falling into a social structure. This otherwise non-gamer/PC freak has just recieved his first dose of "internet addiction" in a form anyone between the ages of 6 to 100 can use.

See you tomorrow Joe.

I have no idea what this is.

Also why are you talking to Joe? He isn't here anymore, Hey joe yes, but no Joe. (I do get what he was doing)

Hmmm, a look though your posts doesn't help.

As someone who had gone though 3 PCs in 10 years, I now use a PS3 to do all the entertainment functions others do on their PCs... so I understand what Sony's REAL goal for the PS3 is. It really is the natural advancement of the internet, even if Sony doesn't do it quite perfectly, this will happen to the internet eventually.

Honestly I'm typing this on my wireless KB I "salvaged" from my PC and use for my PS3... PS3 has the ability to do all the apps %99 of people use their computers for.... really its just a PC but super cheap and reliable... again the way of the future. Change is scary, but it is an undeniable constant.

I've downloaded over 3000 video files on my PS3... and yes... a hell of alot of pron. I'm not trying to start a flame. I'm wanting different intelligent perspectives. Just trust me when I say that the PS3 does all the same entertainment funtions... agruable could do all the same work functions (and probably will over time). But Sony's main goal is spending their time and resorces on the future of the internet...

super cheap? ach, mein hertz. You could easily get a fully functional PC for the same cost as a PS3. You haven't said what exactly this (I assume) PS3 addition does, I'm assuming it to be some sort of web browser, is this true? how exactly is this an evolution of anything? my PC has a webbrowser, my phone has a webbrowser, hell. Eve Online, a bloody game, has a webbrowser.

I'm not seeing the revolution.

EDIT: I have now gathered from your other thread that the PS3 browser is inferior to just about every other browser in existence. The revolution is dimming.

The revolution is the easy functionality... (like the Wii) but almost like if every time you went to Myspace and updated a freind they auto-matticly were your freind in everthing you did on the internet... it's a cerntral hub that connects everything and spreads the addictive properties to all. Think of the possibilities... kinda explains why it's named "home". Theres even a safe haven... something you don't get on the internet... besides just shutting it off.

I honestly didn't come here to flame... I want an intelligent conversation that opens my/your eyes to the possibilities... I posted this here because I beleive there's intelligence here not found at other forums. Much like I don't go to a bar to learn.

you're not telling me what any of that stuff means, I don't use myspace. I'm thinking that you're talking about something akin to IP-telephones or messenger.

Also, perhaps I don't always want my friends to know what I'm doing.
Sometimes I actually use the internet for work & school, and I will claim the superiority of the mouse 'n keyboard combo for browsing through immense article databases and fruitless google searches.

You haven't mentioned something it does better than a computer with internet connection.

Except PC's are more reliable, more versatile and more powerful when it comes to gaming. You can get a blu-ray disk drive fitted if that's what you so desire for cheaper than the PS3 and you can play basically all of the games available on PS3, only there is a whole host more of them and they are cheaper.
I see that what you're doing is trying to start an intellectual discussion but how it comes across is fanboy-ism. You seem to be acting like a total shill for Sony, saying it's better than anything else ever.

I use a mouse n KB (wireless) to tyoe all this... its "better" because the ease in which you do the funtions that you use the internet for, I didn't post to agrue, I post to try to expand my mind.... It really does all the functions, runs 5 windows at a time (I only read one at a time). I think we have become so tech obsessed we can't appreciate a good thing when it's staring us in the face.

I personally dont feal the need to spend 30k on a mustang (my brother does), I just want a reliable car to get me where I want to go. Same as 99% of the world.

Then why buy a PS3?

The post wasn't really about the PS3, but it has degraded into that.... it was about the Home application.

Which is a feature of the PS3. Therefore, you were advertising the PS3 as a better alternative to the PC which it isn't.

Nice, I think it will be with LBP or R2... but since noone else is doing an app like it atm and they have the name rights that are SOOOOOOOO important to this future internet app, never know. When you understand there grand sceme you also understand they arent releasing it till it's good enough (IE has the exclusives) to make it the place to be.

Why would you put up £800 against a PS3? Thats double the price of a PS3?

Home does sound good. It, along with LBP, make me almost regret selling my ps3. Although if there's no home for a while I'll be able to enjoy it :-D.

Unless my mate pulls a fast one and claims he was joking like he always does.

With all his games and extras it adds up to around £800.

Honestly though, I had a great PC that ran WoW for 2years.... I was constantly having to read manuals and call Egypt to fix it just enough to use it for one or 2 apps. Most people are tired of upgrading ever 1-2 years when the pages load 5 at a time and video loads faster than you can read it.... I'm a firefighter... really don't feal like going to a seminar or comunity college just to be able to use the internets fetures for more than 2years without paying extra money. Thats just me, and most of the world...
