I remain cautiously optimistic.

If your cautious optimism leads to you going to see it you are justifying Sony's decision to fix what was never broken.

My thoughts are that this will suck hard but rake in millions and actually turn out more successful than the Raimi Spideys, and set back superhero films in Hollywood for years.

Well he has what looks like the right build. However I am unsure about the picture they used. Why is it so grim?

I remain skeptical

This whole gritty reboot thing is completely unnecessary and is just jumping on the Batman bandwagon

Eh?

I thought it was about him in high school.

OT: That is one ugly suit.

Too late, world!

Tobey McGuire is now forever ingrained in my mind as Spidey. I will accept no substitute!

Andrew Garfield is a good actor, but he's not right for this role. And that costume looks comparatively low budget to Raimi's.

If they're not going to make another good Spidey movie starring Tobey Maguire, then I think we would be better off just letting this franchise go for a while.

Me too, but I'm kinda looking forward to see this as I'd love to see him portrayed in a different way.

Interesting, at first he looks a bit skinny but I got memories of the older Spiderman. Looks a bit grim like he got bet up while he was being Spiderman >.>

Maybe its the uncle Ben scene (or linked to it).

OT: Um... well, I dont rally see alot to hate about the Spiderman series as it was. So I dont know, I'm not sure if it can stand up, but with the only good reboot/remake I've seen that was good AND true to subject matter being True Grit, i'm going to put it into the "shit until it proves otherwise" pile, like Yahtzee.

That was my understanding too, hence my dislike.

Gritty high school? Wait that'd be WORSE.

Oh yeah, I do remember that. But I thought it was so stupid when I heard it that I forced it out of my mind.

I didn't think the Spider Man films were that good to start with. The only decent part was the fact that Toby Maguire was the perfect actor for the role. Now normally I'm willing to wait until at least we see a trailer to predict how good a film will be, but I'm just gonna go right ahead and say this is going to be crap now.

If anybody is interested, and because I can't be bothered to check if there's a thread about this already, this is apparently the first picture of Chris Evans in his Captain America outfit:

I'm not too fussed about seeing that either. I get the impression it will be cringingly patriotic. That's right, cringingly.

I'm not sure about this...doesn't look right somehow. I dunno, maybe I'm just used to manchild McGuire playing Spidey after all this time.

nevertheless I shall undoubtably watch this film based solely on the immense attractiveness of the main actor.

Not a bad suit, the movie itself is still up in the air. I find it extremely unlikely that he will be in the avengers movie though, and if he is, that will be a bad thing. Wait, why is he walking on the ground with his mask off? Probably not a scene from the movie.

I'll admit, it looks cool. I remain with the mindset that it won't suck.
Me too.

Don't get me wrong, it's unnecessary to reboot the series, but I still think that looks pretty cool.
I'm loving the suit, too. Looks badass.

Personally I'd love to see a gritty Spidey. It wasn't hard to imagine a gritty Batman, but Spider-man? After the cheerful and under-15-rating trilogy? I'm excited.

I still can't get over the suit... Never felt this way about a piece of clothing before.
It just looks good, I think.

I hope Vulture, Rhino or Lizard will be in it. Or a new, darker Venom.

UGH; of all the superheroes, Spiderman probably deserves grit the least. This is going to be terrible.

Though it is important to point out that this is his WW2 costume, from the leather pouches, soft material and helmet. They may have a more modern looking one when he appears in the Avengers.

And of course it's going to be cringingly patriotic, it's Captain America. Though Cap is a lot more interesting than non-readers give him credit.
