Why not just include Wedge?
Wedge was around in a lot of post-Jedi content, and his presence could work here, too.

You may want to check out Star Wars Rogue Leader than. It has ten missions, plus a couple of bonus ones. In the first three you play as Luke, starting off with the attack on the first Death Star, the rebels fleeing to Hoth, and the battle of Hoth itself. But in the middle of the Hoth mission, Luke's snow speeder is shot down, like in the movies. At that point, you take control of Wedge and stay in control with him for the rest of the mission, and the next seven missions after. His missions include, rescuing prisoners from an asteroid prison, a two missions involving getting the second death star plans, shooting down a Star Destroyer in the first one and attacking the downed craft, stealing the Imperial shuttle Luke and crew used in Return of the Jedi, a mission in Cloud City, the battle above Endor and, just like you asked, the run on the second Death Star.Timmaaaah said:I remember Wedge... Couldn't do much in the first movie because his engine got taken out and had to pull out, but in Jedi he takes down the Death Star with Lando. I'd love to see a wicked awesome space flight/shooter game based on his missions for the rebels, ending in the Death Star takedown.
I remember the liking the fact that he was that he was clearly a badass pilot but was still a minor character side-badass.
And as I recall from a Graham Norton Show episode, McGregor said that his uncle actually advised him against doing Star Wars. (Not sure how much of that was a jape though). Kind of underlies how much of a massive [pop?] cultural hit the franchise was that even ancillary characters developed major fan followings (though doubtless the Extend Universe must've helped too!). Hell, I remember falling in love with IG88 from that one Nintendo 64 game - Shadow of Empire(?).Johnny Novgorod said:Fun fact - guy that played Wedge is Ewan McGregor's uncle.
I'll agree. Yavin, Hoth, and Endor were epic. The rest was pretty much hokey religion filler. That force stuff even infected fairly good stories. Ace Azzameen's story was pretty good. Merek Steele and Keeyan Farlander's stories from X-Wing and Tie-Fighter were great too, and then they decided to shoehorn in that both were "force sensetive." Laaammmeee. It's just like how they ruined Dark Forces. Sweet shooter, good story and characters... and then they decide to make Kyle Katarn just another lame Jedi, and the rest of the games sucked.Racecarlock said:I hope I get to see Ace Azzameen on screen at some point. Hell, an x-wing alliance movie would be awesome. You know, I'll be honest here. I never gave two shits about any lightsaber fighting when it was on screen. Even the big philosophical story ones. Ever since the battle of yavin, my path as a sci-fi fan was set. Here we are in space and yet we're constantly sword fighting like it's the three friggin' musketeers. I guess it's cool for story reasons, but why can't there be a cool and legendary showdown in space?
It's not like that couldn't happen. Starfighter and x-wing alliance pulled it off in game form. Maybe this is because I had played a demo of star wars X-wing on the mac before I even knew what the hell star wars was. Hell, the x-wing's red engine glow and paintjob and callsign is the reason red is my favorite color.
Screw the jedi, screw the sith. I am a pilot and I will always be one.
