Well infinityward DID advance the series to "Not just another WWII series" and with WaW, it dragged them back down there. If anything it will be another MW, or maybe even an advanced warfare which would be awesome.

Why are people discussing COD6? Shouldn't we be looking forward to COD 5 first?

Now I sit back and wait for someone to say "COD: WAW was COD5 stupid!" to which I will respond, "Really? I didn't see a 5 anywhere in the title." to which they will respond "Well it's understood to be COD5" to which I will respond "Really? Like COD: Finest Hour was understood to be COD2? And then COD: Big Red 1 was understood to be COD3? What does that put us up to now, COD7? COD8?"
I'm sure your imaginary opponents find you very clever.

Please give me back my shiny new AK-47 :'(
NO MORE WORLD WAR II! Jesus Christ! Do they want us to spell it out? (the ones who are fed up with this as much as I am) Sorry... I just can't play in the same setting over and over again! "sniff" I really hope to see modern warfare again (not futuristic warfare-crap, God no! Don't even go there, please :S)

IF Arma and Operation Flashpoint can come up with fictional yet realistically thought out wars, why can't the next iterations of CoD follow suit? MW was perfect in that sense of a war fought behind any media coverage, but I would love to see the development of an opus of CoD based on a fictional war that will span over a few games (Western Nations having to fight against a Eastern Nations in a full out war).

Which is EXACTLY why they aren't numbering them anymore. They were getting into the Resident Evil territory of fucked up game numbering now. World at War is considered the "official" Call of Duty 5; its working title was even "Call of Duty 5," and Modern Warfare 2's working title was "Call of Duty 6."

Finest Hour was a half-assed, watered down, semi-similar to Call of Duty 1 game for the console gamers while the PC gamers got the "real" thing. Big Red One was the same, but for last-gen gamers, while the gamers with the 360 and PC got the REAL Call of Duty 2. So, Finest Hour and Big Red One were basically just spin-offs so that the whiny children that weren't yet successful in pestering mommy to death for a next-gen console or decent PC wouldn't feel completely left out.

They should make one where your British forces rather than Americans, I'm tired of games portraying the Americans as the only people on the allies side in ww2 :p No offence to any Yanks here. :)

Finest Hour was not numbered because it was only based on the original CoD. Big Red One actually had a 2 in the title (way to read, there), but apparently it's a sequel to Finest Hour, not CoD 1. Oh and you forgot Roads to Victory for the PSP.

Bottom line, the games that are released on all major platforms (besides the original) are considered part of the main series, while console-only or handheld-only are considered spinoffs. WaW is on 360, PS3, and PC (and Wii too I suppose), so people are calling it CoD 5 (including me). Now if they release an actual CoD 5, I'll shut up, but I haven't heard anything about that.
And considering that Activision decided to drop the numbering on Call of Duty games, they can now "fuck up the cannon" however they like. They can go freely from WWII to Fictional modern warfare as they damn well please... what's next? Call of Duty Weapons of the Future with lasers and plasma grenades and Orbital Airstrikes with giant beams of light.

Well considering that a "cannon" is a type of gun, I don't see how they can fuck it up unless they pull a Pariah.

Oh wait, that's not what you meant.

If you mean CANON, then well, there isn't a cohesive story connecting all the CoD games except the broad overarching "it already happened" thing called World War II. So unless the Modern Warfare games try to connect with one another, then there isn't any "canon." Besides, it's a military shooter; to paraphrase Yahtzee "You're over here, bad guys over there, KILL THEY ASS."

And to head off the "stop bitching at Halo because its story sucks" counter-argument, Halo actually claims to have a story, where CoD freely admits to just giving you scenarios that you fight through. CoD 4 was the closest one to having an actual story.

Yes I meant canon, typed double N there by mistake :s but anyways, there is a reason why I put it in quotations, they took out the numbering to stop people from saying "Wait, what about all the other titles? Isn't this call of duty number 8? Like someone in the early posts wrote.

They just took off the number so they can go back and forth however the hell they like it and if someone goes: "Hey isn't this call of duty 6?", they'll just say: "What effin difference does it make?! Here take a code for some random ass weapon to play online with and bugger off!".

No, sorry but your post came almost a month late mate, the new one is going to be Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. And Treyarch will probably cling to WWII shooters until someone from Activision realizes that the entire Treyarch development team should be put into a container and dropped into the pacific ocean never to be seen or heard of again.

I second that, CoD 6 might just jump to the fucing future (Since the IWard never ever stops and does what treyarch does. Goes the safe way, the safe BORING way.) CoD 6 i hope wont rip off what has already been done, see Crysis and Fallout 3. Do NOT pull us into Korea...and do NOT put us into nuclear fallout. Remove bombs, never go to Africa(like Far Cry 2) and start making a new world war with WHITES against WHITES. or at least the "White Countries" if you know what I mean. Not being rascist here.

For the better part of CoD4 you play as the British. I also remember playing as the British in CoD 2 aswell. You usually get to play as the Russians aswell.

I would really like to see the same sort of special ops missions in the heart of the asiatic area. It'd have to be handled with respect but the idea of being in full on gear running through some dingy little street in some town in China while choppers or gaurds are after you is awesome. Maybe implement some sort of destruction engine so you could break down some plaster walls or something like that. I also think a well done campaign in Africa could have fantastic potential. The sniper mission/s alone would be great. Looking out over the serengeti through the scope of a .50 cal waiting for a convoy carrying a diplomat or a rebel leader. One of the things I think what they need to avoid is to be too angtsy about offending people. They shouldn't be rascist obviously but they should make it so it's realistic because that's why you buy and love the game. My room mate comes from the Middle East and he loves the mission sections there and the same is true with a Russian friend of mine who thinks the Chernobyl section is the most enjoyable part.

Well I think the next CoD (Infinity ward, not the sidekicks)makes will be semi futuristic, I mean after the success with modern warfare you can't step back can you?

Well you can but I hope they won't.
I'd point out CoD WaW, but as you say, this one will be by infinity Ward. Hopefully they'll listen and take it somewhere else where we'll never have to shoot another nazi.

In COD MW2 Im hoping that when I call in an air strike it will wreck the scenery, even in death match. I want to personalise my soldier (personally I wanna look like Jesse Ventura in Predator, Boone hat, vest and porno tash). Im not hopeful though, probably just get extra dismemberments because thats all 12 year olds want.

Id like a COD game based on the Falklands but theres no hope as the Americans arent involved. I was impressed that the brits got a look in on COD4 but I always thought our troops used the SA80 which was no where to be seen.

I know in Bravo two zero they used m16s but that was back during 1991.

CoD: WaW is enough like CoD4 to make me think that the next installment would have to be recommended by God for me to buy it.

Either that...or it removes the grenade launcher from the game and throws it down into a feiry pit of death where it will burn for all eternity.
Ya that and martyrdom

But if God did come down and recomend a game, I'd give it a try 8)

This was done to death like a month or two ago. The series will not go to Vietnam. Its far too sensitive of a war for a lot of people.
