I was sitting here thinking it was going to be an Iron Maiden thread. (Going to go see them in june babey!)
Anyway, what's your point? It's a different number than what we thought? Hurray.........Useless facts my good man, useless facts.
And is there some reason peole can't express their dislike of religeon without being complete douche's about it? Come on Sirdan, you could have done better.
Man I was hoping this was an Iron Maiden topic too. They are coming to my town right away, and you have no clue how much I am looking foward towards that.

There is nothing wrong with religion by its self, but there is a huge problem with the people who interpret it, most religions are based on the ideal that people should treat others with respect.
well said, most ppl don't understand the words in the bible or it's phrases that have fallen out of use, the qur'an and the torrah are written in the same language that is still spoken today, english has evolved a LOT since the king james version

look at the phrase "raised someone from amongst the dead" or "cast the person out amongst the dead", those are things jesus did AND had nothing to do with actual dead people.

funny story that happened to me in college:

prof was talking about religion and said "all religions carry the same msg, does anyone know what it is?"
i said "yes it's 'you practice vice you will be punished, practice virtue you will be rewarded' "
a girl turned around with a snarky face going "no christianity it's the golden rule, do unto other's as you'd have done unto you"
i retort with "yes i just said that, what do you think the golden rule means? if you treat someone bad you will be punished, if you treat them well you will be rewarded"

All religions a crock mate, and please don't say you spent your free time looking this up, I F**KING hate religion, unproven and causes wars between different denominations.(Yes I am acting like I have just took my R.S. test, I have 3 hours ago)

and don't think for a minute that I am a God-boy, I don't think that religion is needed in the modern society, it restricts progress way to much
I couldn't agree more, mate. Were living in a world in which we can build supercomputers, sattelites and whatnot, Do we honestly need an ancient book full of symbolism to tell us that killing is bad? Hell no...

And god, does it piss me off whenever some high'n'mighty christian is wailing about how stem cell research and abortion is horrible. It's about fucking choice for Jesus' sake! If you don't wanna donate a fetus, don't! It's that simple!

Sorry about ranting, there.

R.S. tests obviously aren't testing you enough. If religion is unproven, is atheism proven? Religion doesn't cause wars, people use religion as an excuse to go to war. I'm not religious myself but I think that everyone should at least try and understand that there's nothing wrong with religion (unless it advocates, in its current form, morally wrong things) but with people.

actually if you want to have some fun, learn the bible and what the phrases mean in it, then use that info against bible thumpers cause most don't know their own bible. it's funnier cause it's their own holy book you're using. learning a bit of hebrew helps too

mormons often find themselves "busy" after a couple mins of me questioning them and making a few points.

I agree, questioning people who think that the whole bible should be followed to the letter about, for example, whether they wear 'shirts with mixed fibres' is fun, but don't forget this: In Luke's gospel at least, one of Jesus' biggest complaints about the Jewish leadership is that they follow the rules set out by the Torah blindly, without considering why they are there in the first place. I think alot of religious people pick and choose what to follow and what not to; that's not being indecisive, that's being sensible and thinking independently.

my personal fav is asking them if God is a god of love or hate? they will always answer love, then ask them if they would ask someone to kill their child to prove their love for you? you'll get a look of horror and say "well your god of love asked Abraham to kill his son to prove he loved him"

or ask them if they think the bible should be followed word for word, if they say yes, and they have a daughter, ask them how much he wants for his daughter cause you want to buy her. yes selling your daughter into slavery is ok according to the bible :)

the bible is a book of parable that was designed to show ppl how to live a good life and treat one another and also a bit about our past. yes a lot of the events DID happen in the bible they are just seen and told thru the eyes of those who didn't understand what they were seeing. it is still useful today BUT only the life lessons should be gleaned from it and some historical stuff if you know how to pick it out

Someone's got the right idea. Blaming wars on religion is like blaming school shootings on games. They're just scapegoats.
