the fast travel system completely ruined a lot of the game, but after a while I would get bored of seeing the samey landscape, relent and use the fast travel system, I just don't have the patients not to.

Normally don't. I like the Fallout system - once you've been there then you can fast travel.

I never haven't not used fast travel in Oblivion I prefered how it worked in Morrowind. I didn't use it for a playthrough of Fallout 3.
So you walked through the metro mazes of DC, you legend

I use it when I'm feeling lazy, that said, I sometimes like to see how long it takes my character (with 100 speed)to run from one end of the map to the other

I never played Oblivion myself, so this isn't a stupid question but, do they have that system in Oblivion, where you can just press a button to auto-walk? Fallout had that, and I used it extensively, but did Oblivion?

Okay, so this might come as a shocker to some of the other Oblivion fans out there, but to be honest, i have never once in my entire career of playing Oblivion have i used the fast travel system. I personally feel like im cheating and its takes away from the escapism and immersion. I've always bought a black or white horse, depending one weather im playing a good or bad character.

So i was just wondering, is there anybody else out there that feels the same way i do, and doesn't bother to use the fast travel system?
I would fast travel across the street if the game would let me...

I think the fast travel system was implemented to compensate for the immense amount of copy/paste. It just seems like an excuse for them to be lazy, I'd much rather have no fast travel and a more interesting environment.

When I first played Oblivion I didn't use it because I wanted to see the world, but after further playing I now realise the landscape is shit, or at least it is when I play it now, so I fast travel quite a lot. I'll probably do the same for Skyrim as well.

That's how it basically works in Oblivion, except that the Major Cities are already discovered, but I think that makes sense, your character would obviously know or easily be able to figure out where all the major cities are, so it wouldn't make sense to force you to discover them.

I use an intentionally nerfed version of the fast travel using mods. I could use the fast travel once every 24 hours or something like that.

Yes but only because Cyrodill is the most boring place ever. I swear the first five minutes walking anywhere from the starting point is just hills, grass, and trees. Even the dungeons are almost identical.

Nope. I hurl a thunderbolt at anything that tries to kill me. Who needs to teleport when you can walk? (That sounded backwards...)

If Oblivion's horses handled like those on Shadows of the Colossus or Assassin's Creed, then maybe I would not use fast travel. Mounts in Oblivion looked terrible and mechanical to be honest and this removed immersion in the game . Only the landscape immersed me.. NPCs and other stuff, not so much.

I tended to fast travel less the more powerful I became. I just got sick of being pounced on while I was still weak.

Yes, Oblivion has auto-walk.

I am lazy. Even in video games. So I didn't want to ride/walk, I insta-traveled.
But i tried to walk/ride as much as i could without making things annoying. It was fun riding along the road and seeing something interesting in the horizon, like a weird village that's half-burn and nobody likes you, and there are weird trap-doors that lead to an underground cavern which is populated by weird half-naked people who just attack you.
Damn, that village was cool. Though i don't think i actually found the quest that wanted me to go there...

I use it mainly for quest completion but when I'm just having fun or hunting I'll use my own feet. I much preferred the Morrowind style of travel.

I'm a type of player who constantly finds new tweaks and small mods to put in Elder Scrolls (both III and IV) to improve roleplaying and/or realism. You can guess what the first mod I downloaded was.
Obviously, it was the "no fast travel" mod. I also got it for Fallout 3.
I even write my own journal and have no automatic quest entries. There's no way I'm letting fast travel tease me every time I open the map screen.
