I didn't use it the first time through. After traversing the same forest a few times it gets boring and I am thankful for the fast travel system.

My first play through I chose not to use it and do it all how it should be done, but on every play through after I used it the majority of the time.

Not when I'm exploring, obviously, but going somewhere far away for the nth time, I absolutely use it.
I have better things to spend time on than watching my character being on auto-run for half an hour just to unload loot.

I use it for the simple reason that I've already been to that place before so I'm not really missing anything by fast travelling back there.

I try to avoid it. I have a mod for F)3 that disables it, so if I play Oblivion again I will see if there is a similar thing.

Actually the first time I played through it I didn't realize there was a fast travel system...
So I didn't use it.

Well, I my char just became a vampire because I forgot to cure him from a hunt from 3 RL weeks ago, so I've been forced to walk everywhere. It's been... odd, but I'm not sure if it's made the experience better or worse.

I always make a vow not to but I end up using it anyway because they want me to walk halfway across the map to pick up a doodad and walk back...

yeah it's the shittiest thing in the world, but I still use it. It is fast. Morrowind's was perfect it was realistic that large cities would have docks and what are essentially buses, and they could only go to cities in close proximity. Yeah it sucked to walk to the smaller towns, but the game was about getting lost and overwhelmed by the strange island.

sometimes in Oblivion I only fast travel between major cities, just to feel better about myself.

I too prefered the system from morrowind, it somehow made the game feel larger I think.
And no I did not use the fast travel in Oblivion, though I only played through the game once.

Didn't use it on my first playthrough as I was literally taken aback by how large and beautiful the game was, but it did get a little boring, so I have (though sparingly) used it since.

is that even possible? I didn't know you could even beat the game without fast travel. you must have put like 100 hours into that game just walking and riding horses...

Last time I played it I had the perfect combo of mods to make the game look as good as possible. It fucking shone. Because of this I was really looking forward to walk places and not use the fast travel system so much (I never used it much the other time I played the game, but towards the end it was a common thing).

And you know what? After all my plans to make the game look perfect, you know what it did? The entire, fucking realm of Cyrodil was covered in a storm that cut visibility to 10m and filled the screen with rain. So I opened the map and fast traveled around, because obviously the game didn't want to play nice.

Two. Fucking. Months. Tht's how long the storm lasted.

I always walk/ride to somewhere the first time, then after that i'll fast travel if i cba walking/riding all the way again, or if its only for something small and i'd be leaving straight away again... but i do try to use fast travel as infrequently as possible

Couldn't get into the game far enough to where fast travel would be useful. Tolkienesque fantasy games are a dime a dozen...

That said, I use the hell out of the Oblivion fast-travel system in the new Fallout games.

I have a mod which disables all of the waypoints until you've been there once. That way, you have to have made the journey in order to be able to get to the place you want to go.

It's a nice compromise.

I generally avoided it, but I did use it occasionally, like when I really needed to just get to a shop or I had a specific quest to do in mind.
