I use the fast travel when I need to make a trip accross the entire map to get something I forgot at my house or something. But otherwise I tend to travel on foot/horseback.

I use the hell out of it. Pretty much every time that the walking distance would take longer than a loading screen.

I used it. After playing Morrowind without the boots of blinding speed, I'll never manually travel again. Seriously, fuck that shit. No amount of "escapism" or "immersion" will cure the sheer boredom of jogging 4mph between towns...of course, once i got the boots of blinding speed and some spell resist, i wouldn't have it any other way ^_^. Blazing across the countryside was fun just for shits and giggles.

Besides, i got plenty of open world exploration in Obliv from finding me some random dungeons to raid. Considering that i usually came out of each one with full encumbrance, it's nice to be able to just warp back to town and get my shit done, warp back to my dungeon, and set out to find another. It kept the legwork for exploration (when legwork is actually fun), but cut it out for the busywork.

In my opinion, the game is set up so you SHOULD use the quick travel option. I found that it was really easy to go exploring, find a deserted cottage, get attacked by random a-hole and kill 'em, then find out later he was an integral part of some side quest. Great! Now I'll never get that super cool item of super coolness! Thanks alot, WALKING!

i didn't play much Oblivion but i didn't use it in Fallout 3 or NV.
Being a PC-gamer i usually just use a mod to remove the system so i won't be tempted.
Btw why was fast travel even enabled in hardcore NV?

I started off not using it, but then all the oblivion gates would ruin the beautiful landscape and the music. I'd just walk pass them because to be honest the oblivion gates are my least favorite part of oblivion. So, I began to fast travel. It ruined the immersion for me, so I came up with a solution:

Start a new character, never deliver the amulet, walk EVERYWHERE.

I'm doing hardcore mode with mods on PC that adds realistic health and head shots to both players and enemies and I took a vow to not use vats or fast travel (granted i don't get stuck in a glitch) so no I don't.

I use it all the time in TES: 4, F3, and F:NV because I don't want to have to walk all the way to boo-hoo fucking eqypt more than once.

One time my character was so fast she could run circles around horses.

Besides, I like taking in the landscape.

For the first five hours of Oblivion I had no idea there was a fast-travel system.

Once I figured it out I only used it to travel between cities.

I'm guilty of using the fast travel system. Only because it saves SO much time and it doesn't take me out of the game like some fast travels in other games. But I have been meaning to play through without using it. :/ Maybe Skyrim. But until then:

I only use it for travelling from major city to city. I know some people use it for travelling EVERYWHERE, but even if I know the location of a quest, I still travel there from the nearest major city, otherwise you're just missing out.

If it's too far away, such as Leyawinn to Bruma, I will. But if it's not that far I won't. Also I always get my characters speed really high first, so he's faster than Shadowmere by the time I get her :p

I always use it. It speeds the game up. I love a wander, but some of those quests are so dreary..I just finish them and move on to main story quests typically. Besides, so much of oblivion was "samey-same" as it were, you aren't missing much outside of the beautfiul towns.

Why would you download a mod to get rid of fast-travel? Can't you just, you know, not use it? Not like anything forces you to do it at any time.

Some quests would be freaking annoying without fast travel (and they still kind of are with it).

One particular Boomers quest: Start at Nellis, go to Crimson Caravan, then back to Nellis, then back to Crimson Caravan, and back to Nellis again. And all you do is talk to people, and not about anything interesting.

Or that NCR quest that you start at Camp Forlorn Hope. Go to all the Ranger Stations and come back. Then go to all the Ranger Stations again and come back. Then it does end well, but the rest was just a boring chore.

i didnt use it for a while cause i didnt know it existed. but i think that its abit to over used. every cave, camp, altar can be fast traveled to. i think they should have limited it to towns, cities and maybe those altars or somthing.

so you actually have to travel a bit. get attacked by wild animals or bandits or something.

It just seems like such overkill. "This... this system... that allows you to bypass samey terrain to the actual gameplay... that doesn't even actively remind you of its presence if you choose not to use it... is SUCH an affront to my enjoyment of the game that I must remove it from the game! If I click on the icons on the map, I want NOTHING to happen, you hear me? NOTHING! I want to grind my Athletics skill for hours!"
