This post is a collaboration of efforts from AgentBJ09 and KiruTheMant.
Looking back into the building from outside, Alex noticed Lauren leading the kids back to their rooms. With his finger still on the trigger of the MP5, he had to remind himself not to waste any rounds. Looking out towards the sniper' who was likely examining the blood trail he had found before, he wondered if now would be a good time to speak to him. He hadn't gone very far, and he could still keep watch from several yards out.
Stepping away from the porch, he approached the sniper from the road, constantly watching the orphanage as well. "Hey. Looking for something?"
Kiru turned his head to face the man who had earlier manipulated lesser areas unlike some of the earlier Omegas he had met, and was aware that he wasn't fully practiced with his powers. Kiru grunted and turned back to his examination of the blood splattered ground and asked "Your name?" He scraped up a few bolts and examined them, the blood dried onto the metal surface he was examining.
"Alex. And I don't think we got yours either."
"Kiru is the short version" he said, tossing the bloody bolt to the side as he stood up and headed into the alleyway off the main street.
"OK." Seeing that Kiru was going towards the alleyway he had strayed away from before, he backed off, not willing to see who was there.
Kiru wobbled into the alleyway, still slightly disoriented from the wound from the crystal shards that had been fired at him. He looked at his shoulder and realized a lot of the blood splatter had come from him, but the bulk had come from someone else. He approached the back alleyway, and found a corpse that had recently had rigor mortis set in.
It was propped against the wall and looking at it, he saw two gunshot or piercing wounds that would have killed a normal person. One skimming the jugular and the other piercing the hip, likely clipping the spine if it hadn't passed through the bone entirely. The corpse was either the first Omega to attack him from the group or a hobo in the alleyway. "Alex, are any of your friends missing?" he yelled from the alleyway.
Alex couldn't answer that for a second. "Yeah. Two of them." Even though he knew Dawn was gone because of Voltage and not this guy, he asked another question to clarify things. "Male or female?"
Kiru reached into his pocket and grabbed a small battery and a lighter, and held the two close together as he fused the two of them, and looked around the back alley for something to prop it on when it was done. Kiru found a semiplat garbage can and waited for several seconds. Setting the strange battery shaped lighter down and hitting the spark wheel, a bright flame engulfed the air in front of him, which was kept alive by the battery, which wouldn't let it die out. "From the looks of it, male."
"How old? Do you know?" Alex's pulse dropped some as he waited for answer, but he had a bad feeling that it was Ben.
Kiru nodded, even though he was never very good at gauging age. "Not an idea, but it's bright enough back here for you to see." he said as he searched for a globe of a bottle made of metal so he could increase the size of the fire and the light
Alex shook his head out of sight from Kiru's lights. "I...don't want to. I don't think I can handle it."
Kiru sighed as he picked up a stray glass bottle. "Its either that or I drag the corpse out here for Identification."
"Just give me a guess. I've already had one person die in front of me tonight." Alex snapped. "That all I want to see for a while."
Kiru looked that way as he grabbed the electric lighter and killed the flame, cutting a small hole in the bottle with his knife before fastening it to the top of the bottle. "Voltage?" Kiru asked.
Hearing the name of the man who had killed Enapay earlier that night, a shock ran down Alex's spine. "How did you know that?"
"My Employer dropped his name as someone I was to assist with cleanup" Kiru said. "I was heavily lied to, so feel free to ask,but I only know so much."
"Clean-up?" Alex corrected himself on that sentence quickly. "Nevermind. You mean as in 'kill us'. That explains a lot."
"This bastard needed to lay off the cheeseburgers." Kiru said, as he drug the stiff man from the alleyway, his strength barely enough to support one man over 150 pounds.
Seeing the body being dragged out, Alex stepped back from it, but caught a glimpse of who it was. His hunch and fears were confirmed. It was Ben. His neck was obviously where he had bled out, from what he didn't want to know. "Oh, f***." Alex said, shaking. "That's him. That's two people we've lost tonight."
"Another thing." Kiru mentioned as he propped the body against a nearby wall, not heavily shaken by the corpse. "I had backup just in case I was sabotaged, though they were supposed to be here a while ago." Kiru said, as he rummaged through Ben's pockets for an ID.
"What kind? Ones loaded with steel, or powers?"
"Not a clue." Kiru said, but looked up. "He has a codeword to inform me of who he is, and will shop up unless he's seen me go AWOL."
"Wait a second. I thought you were taking us to a safe haven." Alex said, now looking at Kiru's face. "If you go AWOL taking us there, then we're in even more danger."
"Not if my employer dosen't know about it." Kiru said. "The chances of them being able to find an unmarked building is low."
"I hope so. Hey, about what you said eariler. About us having alibis?"
"What about it?" Kiru asked, grabbing a wallet and opening it up.
"I'm assuming you don't need them from us now, if you're on our side. I can still provide one, but I'd need to return to where I was last night to prove it."
"It's up to you, but not now. These kids can't protect themselves and we need a large vehicle."
"Yeah. I can't do much there, sadly. Aside from patch open holes."
"Why not see if they have any junk inside?" Kiru said as he pulled an ID from Ben's wallet and stuffed it into his jean pocket, and handed the rest to Alex.
Taking the wallet, Alex thanked Kiru for it, but still didn't look down at Ben again. He wanted him to be the last person they lost to anyone else. "I'll take care of the chairs, if they have any. Also, I can't speak for everyone but...no hard feelings about all this. It's looking like everyone is being lied to lately."
"Keep your ears open, Any support thats used to back up and kill what a Sniper can't has to be strong."
"I figure. If Voltage was any indication."
"Voltage was cocky and is likely dead or dying." Kiru said, as he brought the lamp from the alleyway, blinding a lot of the street for a moment from the sudden shift from darkness to light.
