My surname has been translated by various people to mean (in English) horizontal or diagonal. Using online dictionaries, there is general agreement it means something like: traverse, transverse, transversal, cross, thwart. Essentially, to go across/over with a shade of meaning being horizontal. Or perhaps the other way around. Possibly.
Which is pretty cool, all in all, and a great pick-up line to do for a laugh.

'Melville'
Look it up on wikipedia.
THAT'S RIGHT! MY name has it's own wikipedia page!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melville_family
Yes well my family have an entire village named after us
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lythe
HA
sorry for the double post
Yeah? well I have a city [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeddah], a town [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jedburgh], a forest [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jedforest], a river [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jed_Water], a text editor [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JED_(text_editor)], and a religion [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jediism] named after me, beat that.
Jedi isn't legaly a religeon, there aren't enough followers so there, I am under the assumpsion that your sir name is Jed, in which case the only one actually named after you is the river, all others have been changed and the text editer will stand for something no gives a shit about.
victory is mine :p
Jed's my first name (second's Chance, dunno why I didn't choose that. I totally would have won for things named after me, yay gambling!) but the town hasn't been changed, calling it Jedburgh is like calling it Jedville or Jedtown, they were obviously dedicating it to me. Also, Jediism should be a religion, it's just that for some reason the stupid government aren't giving in to gentle pressure from people trying to mess with the Census.
Jed chance, in the words of Mr sulu (or whoever the asain guy from star trek)
"oh my"

McPherson Surname Origin
The son of Pherson. Pherson is the son of Pfarrer, German, a parson, and that from Pfarre, a parish, a benefit, or living. Pfarre is derived from the Gaelic Faire, a watcher, to watch, an overseer, Episcopus. I have no idea were in Scotland my name comes from, that was just the first thing I found :p
Edit: just found my crest and it says above it: Touch not the cat but a glove that brings up a strange question >.>

McPherson? That would be touch not the cat without a glove I think. A cats glove refers to the soft part of its paw it retracts its claws. A cat without a glove means it has its claws out and as anyone knows bugging a cat with it's claws out will end very badly.

Mines Seale, an Anglo-Saxon name and a variation of spelling on the name Seal, which came about came about because the family lived in the parish of Seal in Northumberland.

O yeah, I read it wrong, the text on the first crest I seen looked like it said but a glove. Thanks for the correction :)

my name is Yorie S. Latimer

The name derives from the Old French "latinier", latim(m)ier", interpreter, literally "a speaker of Latin"
During the Middle Ages Latin was effectively the only language used for official documents, and the position of "Latiner" or "Latimer" was therefore a skilled and important one.
A notable bearer of the name was Hugh Latimer (1485 - 1555), the Protestant bishop; he was burnt at the stake for heresy under "Bloody" Mary 1 of England.

My last name is German for 'pious'. If anyone pays attention to my posts, you realize how fitting it is.
